Starfruit in Palworld: A Four-Star Pal for 750 Dog Coin

The five Palworld starfruit items and the rank step each one raises.

The standard route to a four-star Pal is the Pal Essence Condenser and 48 duplicates of that exact species — a project measured in evenings. There is another route almost nobody uses. Starfruit raises a Pal's star rank directly, one step per fruit, with no duplicates involved at all. The Medal Merchant sells all four tiers, and the full climb from no stars to four costs 750 Dog Coin.

Five Starfruit, One Job Each

ItemRarityWhat it does
Starfruit ☆1EpicRaises a Pal's rank from ☆0 to ☆1
Starfruit ☆2EpicRaises a Pal's rank from ☆1 to ☆2
Starfruit ☆3EpicRaises a Pal's rank from ☆2 to ☆3
Starfruit ☆4EpicRaises a Pal's rank from ☆3 to ☆4
Ripe StarfruitLegendaryRaises a Pal's rank by one, from any level

Each numbered Starfruit does one specific step, so they are not interchangeable — a Starfruit ☆3 does nothing to a Pal that has no stars yet. You need the whole ladder in order.

The Ripe Starfruit is the wildcard. Legendary rarity, and it raises rank by one from wherever the Pal currently is — so it substitutes for whichever tier you are missing. It comes from the Bounty Shop rather than the Medal Shop, which makes bounty hunting a second, parallel source.

All five weigh 1 and stack to 9,999, and all five sell for 10 Gold Coins — so, as with Disposable Implants, never bulk-sell your inventory without checking.

750 Dog Coin Against 48 Duplicates

Card comparing the Medal Merchant starfruit route against condensing in Palworld.

The Medal Merchant stocks all four numbered tiers:

StarfruitPrice
☆150 Dog Coin
☆2100 Dog Coin
☆3200 Dog Coin
☆4400 Dog Coin
Total ☆0 → ☆4750 Dog Coin

The alternative is 48 duplicates at the Pal Essence Condenser — and note how the two costs are shaped differently. Four duplicates buys only the first star. Getting all the way to four means catching or breeding the same species forty-eight times.

So the honest comparison is: is 750 Dog Coin easier for you than 48 duplicates of one specific Pal? For a common Pal you are already farming, condensing is fine. For a legendary or a single-spawn Alpha — Jetragon has exactly one encounter on the map — 48 duplicates is not a realistic project, and Starfruit is the only route that exists.

Put the price in context against the other Dog Coin sinks, which now form a clear priority list:

PurchaseCost
Both extra accessory slots350 Dog Coin, one-off
An Applied Handbook300 Dog Coin each, permanent +1 work suitability
A four-star Pal750 Dog Coin

Buy the accessory slots first — they are cheap and affect every loadout you will ever run. After that the choice is between base throughput and one very good Pal, and 750 is the largest single purchase on the shelf.

What Four Stars Actually Buys

Card explaining the two separate benefits of raising a Palworld Pal to four stars.

Rank does two separate things, and most guides only mention the first.

One: stats. Four stars gives +20% Health, Attack and Defense. Useful, and easy to understand.

Two: partner skill level, and this is the larger effect. A Pal's partner skill scales with its star rank — Lv1 at no stars, Lv5 at four stars. For a type converter that ladder runs +5% → +7% → +10% → +14% → +20% Attack. A fully-ranked converter gives four times what an unranked one does.

Which reframes what to spend Starfruit on. A generic fighter gains 20% stats. A converter, a party buff Pal or any Pal whose partner skill you actually use gains that and quadruples its skill. The second group is where 750 Dog Coin pays for itself.

The same logic applies to base workers. A Pal whose partner skill grants +1 work suitability to every other Base Pal — Clovee, Tetroise, Smokie Cryst, Ribbuny — is worth ranking for the skill, not the stats.

And Starfruit stacks with everything else. Rank, Awakening (+7%), Trust, the Statue of Power and IVs are separate layers. Starfruit simply removes the duplicate grind from one of them.

The Other Overlooked Consumables

Card listing five overlooked Palworld consumables including the Nutrient Tonic and Life Crystal.

ItemWhat it does
Nutrient TonicTechnology 79 — Nutrition 360, and prevents hunger for 600 seconds
Little Kinship PeachRaises a Pal's trust, SAN +10 — the smaller version of the Kinship Peach
Life Crystal[Tides of Terraria]permanent +1 Max HP, and it does nothing on a Pal
Building Repair KitRepairs destroyed structures
Mind Control Meds"Unfortunately, they have no healing effect." Sells for 1,332 Gold

The Nutrient Tonic is the one to know about for long trips. Ten minutes with hunger switched off removes the main interruption on a World Tree circuit — but it is expensive, needing World Tree Holy Water ×25, Caramel Cotton Candy ×18, Onion ×20 and Cavern Mushroom ×10, and it sells for 16,920 Gold, which tells you how the game values it.

The Life Crystal is easy to waste. It is a Terraria collab item granting a permanent Max HP increase to the player only — feeding one to a Pal does nothing at all, and neither does using one at full HP.

Mind Control Meds are a gold recipe, not a medicine. The description says outright that they have no healing effect, but they sell for 1,332 Gold Coins and are made from Refined Ingot ×10, Horn ×10, Bone ×5 and Aquatic Pal Fluids ×3 — all mid-game materials. If you have a surplus of horn and bone, that is a straightforward conversion into gold.

The Building Repair Kit is worth a stack after any raid. Structures that have been destroyed — by a base raid, a warband, or a boss fight that went badly — are repaired rather than rebuilt with one, which is far cheaper than sourcing the original materials again.

Practical tips

  • Starfruit raises star rank with no duplicates. Each tier does one specific step.
  • ☆0 to ☆4 is 750 Dog Coin at the Medal Merchant — against 48 duplicates at the condenser.
  • Ripe Starfruit raises rank by one from any level and comes from the Bounty Shop.
  • Spend it on Pals whose partner skill you use — four stars quadruples a converter's bonus.
  • Starfruit is the only realistic route for single-spawn Alphas like Jetragon.
  • Buy your 350 Dog Coin accessory slots first, then handbooks, then Starfruit.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Dog Coins and bounty tokens both come from content you run repeatedly, and 750 for a single four-star Pal is a lot of repeats. On a dedicated Palworld 1.0 server that content is available whenever your group is, rather than whenever the host is online, and your base keeps producing between sessions so the currency accumulates alongside everything else. Full crossplay lets everyone contribute, and one-click backups protect a Pal you have spent 750 Dog Coin ranking up.

Conclusion

Starfruit is the shortcut past condensing. Five items — ☆1 through ☆4, each raising one specific rank step, plus the Legendary Ripe Starfruit that raises rank by one from any level — take a Pal to four stars with no duplicates at all. The Medal Merchant sells the four numbered tiers for 50, 100, 200 and 400 Dog Coin: 750 in total, against 48 duplicates at the Pal Essence Condenser. That makes it the only realistic route for single-spawn Alphas like Jetragon, and the right purchase for any Pal whose partner skill you rely on — because four stars is not only +20% Health, Attack and Defense, it is partner skill Lv5, which turns a type converter's +5% into +20%. Buy your 350 Dog Coin accessory slots first, then decide between 300-coin Applied Handbooks and a 750-coin four-star Pal.
