How to Catch Whalaska in Palworld (Location, Skills & Drops)

Whalaska hero card showing the Ice/Water Pal Whalaska, Paldeck #151, against a deep blue gradient.

Whalaska is the answer to a question that stops a lot of Palworld players cold: where does Coralum Ore come from, when there is no Coralum node anywhere on the map? Whalaska drops 2 – 3 per kill at a guaranteed rate, which makes it the most reliable per-kill source in the game. It also carries a fishing partner skill and doubles as a Cooling Lv6 base worker.

Where to Find Whalaska

Where-to-find card listing Whalaska's spawn zones, boss variant and drops.

    Five routes:

  • Astral Mountains CavernLevel 42 – 44, the standard wild population and the cheapest catch.
  • Land of Absolute Zero — the boss variant "Gentle Ice Lance Whalaska" at Level 55, a fixed farmable encounter.
  • Ice block areaLevel 50 – 60.
  • The World TreeLevel 80.
  • Large Fishing Pond — a 7.33% passive catch.

That last one is worth noting. If you have a Large Fishing Pond running at base (Technology Level 55), Whalaska turns up on its own at a 7.33% rate — a considerably better chance than the pond's 3.66% for Polapup Terra.

Which to hunt: the Level 42 – 44 Astral Mountains Cavern population is the efficient choice for materials. Coralum Ore, Ice Organ and Aquatic Pal Fluids all drop at 100% regardless of the Pal's level, so there is no reason to fight the Level 80 version for them.

How to Catch Whalaska

  1. Bring Electric and Fire. Whalaska is Ice/Water — Electric punishes the Water half and Fire punishes the Ice half. Prixter Lux (790 – 997 Attack) covers Electric among 1.0's roster; Flaracle or Renjishi cover Fire.
  2. Do not bring Ice or Water. It shrugs both off.
  3. Whittle it into the red. At Level 80 it carries 5,100 – 6,360 HP; the Level 42 population is far softer.
  4. Ultra or Legendary Spheres are enough for the cavern population. Save Sol and Ancient Spheres for genuine endgame targets.
  5. Or just wait. A Large Fishing Pond will eventually hand you one at 7.33% with no fight at all.

Skills & Stats

Combat kit card showing Whalaska's fishing partner skill and its three 600-power moves.

Whalaska's partner skill is niche but genuinely useful: while it is in your party, fishing minigames start with the capture gauge already increased by 5~14%.

Palworld's fishing minigame has no partial credit — losing the fish empties the circle completely and ends the attempt. Starting with the gauge partly filled is therefore worth more than the percentage suggests, especially on the harder catches. It stacks nicely with a high-modifier rod: the Pengullet Rod (×1.8) or Depresso Rod (×1.9) widen the bar, and Whalaska gives you a head start on filling it.

Pair it with Solmora or Solmora Lux, whose skills make it easier to fish up talented Pals, and you have a fishing party that both lands catches and lands good ones.

Its signature moves are unusually strong for a utility Pal — three separate 600-power skills:

  • High Breach (600)
  • Geyser Gush (600)
  • Diamond Rain (600)
  • Freeze Wall (200)
  • Splash (160)

The ladder runs Ice Missile (40), Icicle Cutter (80), Iceberg (120), Splash (160), Freeze Wall (200), then the three 600s.

    At Level 80:

  • HP: 5,100 – 6,360
  • Attack: 790 – 997
  • Defense: 710 – 908

That Attack figure is genuinely competitive — it matches Sekhmet and Solenne among Palworld 1.0's new Pals, which is unusual for a Pal most people treat as a farming target.

At base it brings Cooling Lv6 — tied for the best Cooling rating with Pierdon Cryst and Univolt Cryst — plus Watering Lv5. Cooling matters for refrigeration lines and the Ancient Kitchen chain, and Watering Lv5 makes it a viable Crusher operator, since the Crusher needs Watering rather than Handiwork.

Whalaska hatches from a Huge Frozen Egg with a CombiRank of 710.

Practical tips

  • Coralum Ore at 2 – 3 per kill (100%) is the most reliable per-kill source in the game. Remember the Ancient Furnace needs 200 ore for its 100 ingots.
  • Farm the Level 42 – 44 cavern population. Drop rates do not scale with level, so the Level 80 version is wasted effort.
  • Its Ice Organ (1 – 3, 100%) and Aquatic Pal Fluids (1 – 2, 100%) make one kill restock three separate chains.
  • Put it on a Crusher — Watering Lv5 clears the requirement most players struggle to staff.
  • A Large Fishing Pond catches Whalaska passively at 7.33%. Build one and stop hunting.

Conclusion

Whalaska is an Ice/Water Pal found at Level 42 – 44 in the Astral Mountains Cavern, as a Level 55 boss in the Land of Absolute Zero, and passively from a Large Fishing Pond at 7.33%. It is the best per-kill source of Coralum Ore (2 – 3 at 100%) — the material behind the Ancient Furnace and Advanced Weapon Assembly Line — and it drops Ice Organ and Aquatic Pal Fluids at 100% alongside. Its partner skill starts fishing minigames with the gauge 5~14% filled, and at base its Cooling Lv6 and Watering Lv5 make it one of the few Pals that can properly staff a Crusher. Bring Electric and Fire attackers.
