Valheim Trophies: Four Uses, and Why You Should Never Bulk-Obliterate Them

Card listing the four things trophies do in Valheim.

The Obliterator turns almost any trophy into one Coal — and most players find that out before they find out that trophies craft half the trinket set. A Serpent Trophy is Fins of Destiny. A Lox Trophy is Bracelets of the Brave. A Fuling Berserker Trophy is the Evasion Mantle. Feeding a chest of trophies into the Obliterator to clear inventory space is one of the more expensive mistakes available in Valheim, and it is completely reversible only by killing everything again.

Four Things Trophies Do

One coal. That is what an Obliterated trophy is worth — against a Charcoal Kiln that holds 25 Wood and turns it into coal for free. Obliterating trophies for fuel is close to the worst exchange rate in the game.

Use the Obliterator for genuine junk, and keep at least one of every trophy type until you have checked the crafting list below.

The Seven Boss Trophies

This is the use everyone knows and half of players still get wrong: the power is not granted by the kill. You must carry the trophy to the Sacrificial Stones at the centre of the map and hang it on its stone.

TrophyForsaken Power
Eikthyr60% reduced stamina for running, jumping and swimming
The Elder+60% chop and pickaxe damage, +30% health regen
Bonemass25% physical resistance, free blocking, 5 stamina per block
ModerTailwind, +300 carry weight, +10% speed, 50% frost resist
Yagluth50% Lightning resist, +25 Farm, +10% damage
The Queen+100% Eitr regen, free sneaking, 50% poison resist
Fader+100% Adrenaline, −50% stagger modifier, 50% fire resist

Boss altars are reusable, so resummon until everyone in the group has their own trophy — powers are per-player, not per-world.

Trophies That Make Trinkets

Seven trinkets, seven trophies — and trinkets are the combat system most players never engage with.

Note which enemies those are. A Greydwarf Shaman is a Black Forest mob, and its trophy is a low drop chance — so the Heart of the Forest is gated behind grinding an early-game enemy you stopped fighting long ago. The same is true of the Serpent, which most players kill once and never again.

The Seeker Soldier Trophy has a second job, and it is a significant one: three of them resummon The Queen after the first Sealbreaker. So a group needs both the trinket and the resummons from the same drop.

Trophies That Make Gear

TrollTrollstav staff
BearHeaddress of the Bear, Bronze Pendant, Bearskin rug
DeerStagbreaker, Mead Horn of Odin
WolfWolf Fur Cape
DrakeDrake helmet, fishing baits
AbominationSticky fishing bait
AsksvinFeathery Wreath

Two of Valheim's three magic staves come from trophies — the Dead Raiser from a Skeleton and the Trollstav from a Troll. Both are Blood Magic items, and both are gated behind mobs you fight in the first few hours and rarely again.

The Bronze Pendant from a Bear Trophy is worth singling out: it grants +25% stamina regeneration, which stacks with Rested and the lingering meads on the same stat.

And the fishing connection closes a loop. Bait for other biomes is crafted from basic bait plus trophies — the Abomination and Drake trophies specifically. So the trophy you obliterate for one coal is also the reason you cannot catch Mistlands fish.

Deer Trophies have a third role: two of them summon Eikthyr, the first boss.

How to Handle Trophies

  1. Keep one of every trophy type until you have checked what it crafts.
  2. Hang boss trophies at the Sacrificial Stones. The kill alone grants nothing.
  3. Resummon bosses so every player gets their own trophy and power.
  4. Save Seeker Soldier Trophies — they are both a trinket and The Queen's resummon.
  5. Save Deer Trophies — two summon Eikthyr.
  6. Use the Obliterator only on genuine surplus. One trophy is one coal.

Practical tips

  • The Obliterator gives 1 Coal per trophy — and refuses Ashlands, Hildir miniboss, Bear, Vile and Ghost trophies. A Charcoal Kiln makes the same coal from a single unit of wood.
  • Boss powers require hanging the trophy, not killing the boss.
  • Seven trophies make seven trinkets, including from early mobs you stopped fighting.
  • Skeleton and Troll trophies make two of the three magic staves.
  • Abomination and Drake trophies make fishing bait for other biomes.
  • Trophies also program the Ballista — one trophy per turret, restricting what it shoots.

Running your own Valheim server

Trophies accumulate across every session and get spent across several systems — powers, trinkets, staves, bait and turret targeting. A gamever Valheim server keeps that shared world and its chests available for up to 10 players, so the Serpent trophy one person got on a sea voyage is still there when someone else wants Fins of Destiny. One-click backups protect a trophy wall that took a full progression to fill.

Conclusion

Valheim trophies do four separate jobs, and only one is well known. They grant the seven Forsaken Powers — but only when hung at the Sacrificial Stones, not when the boss dies. They program a Ballista's targeting, one trophy per turret. They decorate an Item Stand. And most importantly, they are crafting ingredients: seven trinkets (Heart of the Forest, Fins of Destiny, Bracelets of the Brave, Evasion Mantle, Resounding Shackle, Brimstone and Jörmundling), two of the three magic staves (Dead Raiser and Trollstav), the Bone Tower Shield, the Stagbreaker, the Wolf Fur Cape, the Bronze Pendant — and the fishing bait for other biomes. Meanwhile the Obliterator converts most trophies into exactly 1 Coal — it will not take Ashlands creature, Hildir miniboss, Bear, Vile or Ghost trophies at all — and a Charcoal Kiln makes that same coal from one unit of wood every 16 seconds. Keep one of everything.
