How to Catch Melpaca in Palworld (Location, Skills & Drops)

Melpaca hero card showing the Neutral Pal Melpaca, Paldeck #20, against a warm grey gradient.

Melpaca drops 2 – 5 Wool per kill at 100% — roughly double what Lamball gives — and produces Wool passively at a Ranch on top of that. Since High Quality Cloth costs ten Wool per single unit and gates every armor set past Refined Metal, wool throughput is one of the quieter walls in the mid game. Melpaca is the better of the two Pals that solve it, and it is catchable at Level 5.

Where to Find Melpaca

Where-to-find card listing Melpaca's early-game spawn zones.

  • Starter grass zoneLevel 5 – 7. You will meet one within the first half hour.
  • Small Settlement — the Alpha at Level 6 – 9.
  • Hillside Cavern and Isolated Island Cavern — Level 7 – 9.
  • Green and blue zones — Level 10 – 17.
  • Pal Recruiters — Level 15 – 70.

A Pal Sphere or Mega Sphere is all this needs. At 75 base Attack and rarity 3, Melpaca puts up no fight worth preparing for at any level it appears.

Catch several. As with every Ranch producer, the duplicates are worth more than the individual — see the condensing section below.

Wool: Twice What Lamball Gives

Card comparing Melpaca and Lamball as wool sources against the High Quality Cloth cost.

Palworld has two wool Pals, and they are not equivalent:

SourceWool per killRanch producer?
Melpaca2 – 5 (100%)Yes
Lamball1 – 3 (100%)Yes

If you are hunting, Melpaca is strictly better — its floor of 2 nearly matches Lamball's ceiling of 3, and its ceiling is 5.

But hunting is the wrong solution to a wool problem. Here is why:

High Quality Cloth costs 10 Wool per unit. It gates armor from Refined Metal through Hexolite, and the Enhanced Lily's Spear wants 20 cloth — 200 Wool. On top of that, High Quality Wooden Board needs 2 cloth each, so any recipe asking for boards is asking for wool as well.

No number of hunting trips fixes a 200-Wool requirement. Ranch throughput does, because a Ranch produces while you are elsewhere.

And there is a shortcut that removes wool entirely. Sibelyx and Sibelyx Primo produce finished High Quality Cloth at a Ranch — no wool, no leather, no workbench. Sibelyx is catchable at Level 25 – 30, so the wool chain has a fairly short shelf life. Until then, Melpaca is your best producer.

Condensing Multiplies Ranch Output

A Ranch Pal's output scales with its Partner Skill level, and Partner Skill level is raised by condensing:

CondensationDuplicatesPartner Skill
Level 0Lv1
4Lv2
★★8 moreLv3
★★★12 moreLv4
★★★★24 moreLv5 — the cap

48 duplicates takes a Pal from Lv1 to Lv5. The documented example is Mau, producing 10 Gold Coins at Lv1 and 10 – 50 at Lv5 — up to a five-fold increase from the same Pal on the same Ranch.

Melpaca is a good candidate — rarity 3, starting-zone spawns, and fodder level does not matter, so a Level 5 duplicate condenses exactly as well as a Level 50 one. It is not quite as cheap as Chikipi or Lamball at rarity 1, but close.

The Partner Skill Is Nearly Useless

Card showing Melpaca's Kingpaca-specific party buff and its work suitability.

Worth being straight about this. Pacapaca Wool has three parts:

  • It is rideable — a perfectly serviceable early ground mount at Level 5, and genuinely useful before you have anything better.
  • It drops Wool at a Ranch — the actual reason to own one.
  • It increases Kingpaca's Defense and Movement Speed while in party.

That third effect is dead weight for most players, because it buffs exactly one other Pal. Unless you are actively running a Kingpaca, it does nothing at all. Compare Wumpo, whose party skill grants +1 Transporting to every Pal at the base — that is what a broadly useful partner skill looks like.

So treat Melpaca honestly: an early mount, and a Ranch worker. Not a party member.

At base it is Farming Lv2, comfortably above the Lv1 a Ranch requires, and it has no second suitability — which is quietly ideal. A single-job Pal cannot be pulled off the Ranch by the work priority order, unlike Beegarde with its seven jobs.

    At Level 80: HP 4,500 – 5,580, Attack 550 – 685, Defense 590 – 752. A production Pal's stat line.

How to Catch Melpaca

  1. Throw a Pal Sphere. No preparation is needed.
  2. Check the starter grass zone at Level 5 – 7, or the Small Settlement Alpha at Level 6 – 9.
  3. Bring Dark damage if you want it down fast — Neutral is weak to Dark — but it hardly matters here.
  4. Catch duplicates as you pass through. They are condensing fodder and cost nothing.

Practical tips

  • 2 – 5 Wool at 100%, roughly double Lamball — the better wool Pal by a clear margin.
  • Ranch it, do not hunt it. High Quality Cloth wants 10 Wool per unit and the Lily's Spear wants 200.
  • Sibelyx makes finished cloth at a Ranch from Level 25 — the wool chain has a short shelf life.
  • Condense it — 48 duplicates for Partner Skill Lv5 and several times the output.
  • Its party buff only helps Kingpaca. Ignore it unless you run one.
  • Farming Lv2 and no second job means nothing can distract it from the Ranch.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Wool accumulates passively, so a Ranch is worth exactly as many hours as your world stays live. On a dedicated Palworld 1.0 server your wool producers keep working while you are offline, and an armor upgrade is waiting when you log in rather than a gathering session. Full crossplay lets a group share one Ranch, and one-click backups and automatic updates protect a production chain that removes a real mid-game wall.

Conclusion

Melpaca is a rarity-3 Neutral Pal found in the starter grass zone at Level 5 – 7, as a Small Settlement Alpha at Level 6 – 9, and across green and blue zones to Level 17. It drops Wool at 2 – 5 (100%) — roughly double Lamball — and produces Wool passively at a Ranch, which is the route that actually matters when High Quality Cloth costs 10 Wool per unit and the Enhanced Lily's Spear wants 200. Its Farming Lv2 with no second suitability makes it an unusually reliable Ranch worker, and condensing it to four stars multiplies that output. Be clear-eyed about the partner skill: it buffs only Kingpaca, so unless you run one, Melpaca is an early mount and a Ranch worker and nothing else. And from Level 25, Sibelyx makes finished cloth with no wool at all.
