Feed Bags, Pouches & Lockpicking Tools in Palworld 1.0 (The Gear Nobody Builds)

There is a category of Palworld item that does nothing when you use it and everything when you simply carry it. Feed Bags stop you and your Pals starving without a single click. Pouches raise your inventory slots permanently. Lockpicking Tools open the treasure chests you have been walking past for want of a key. All of them share the same line in their description — "Carrying one is enough" — and most players never build any of them.
Feed Bags: Five Tiers, Five Food Slots
| Feed Bag | Tech | Food slots | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 9 | 1 | 5 Wood, 10 Fiber, 3 Leather |
| Average | 14 | 2 | 10 Wood, 30 Fiber, 10 Leather |
| Large | 23 | 3 | 20 Wood, 50 Fiber, 20 Leather |
| Huge | 36 | 4 | 30 Hardwood, 90 Fiber, 35 Leather, 10 Carbon Fiber |
| Giant | 47 | 5 | 50 Hardwood, 200 Fiber, 50 Leather, 20 Carbon Fiber |
The description explains the mechanic: "Unlocks a food slot in your inventory. Players and Pals automatically consume food when hungry. Carrying one is enough."
This is automatic feeding for you and your party, and the Small Feed Bag at Technology 9 costs 5 Wood, 10 Fiber and 3 Leather — materials you have in the first hour. There is no argument for not building it immediately.
Each tier adds one slot, and slots are what matter, because different foods do different jobs. Recall that every raw ingredient restores 0 SAN while cooked dishes restore between 1 and 84 — so a multi-slot bag lets you carry nutrition food for yourself (Roast Reindrix at 252 Nutrition, 1 SAN) alongside sanity food for your party (Pizza at 184 Nutrition, 23 SAN).
The jump from Large to Huge is the real cost step. Technology 23 to 36, and the recipe changes from plain Wood to Hardwood plus 10 Carbon Fiber — which routes through Coal. The Giant at Technology 47 wants 200 Fiber and 20 Carbon Fiber.
Good news on Fiber: v1.0.3 doubled the amount obtained from trees, which takes a noticeable bite out of the 200-Fiber Giant bag.
Pouches: Permanent Inventory Slots

| Pouch | Tech | Materials |
|---|---|---|
| Small Pouch | 27 | 10 Wooden Board, 20 Fiber, 10 Leather |
| Medium Pouch | 43 | — |
"A small pouch that allows you to carry additional items. Holding it increases your inventory slots. Carrying one is enough."
Slots and weight are separate constraints and people conflate them. Your carrying capacity starts at 500 and is raised by the Weight Status Point at +50 per point, by Lunaris in your party (+300~600) or Cattiva (+100~200), and permanently by the Burden Remedy. None of those give you more slots. The pouch does.
Which one binds depends on what you carry. A trip hauling ore hits the weight cap first. A trip collecting many different small items — relics, gems, drops from a dozen species — hits the slot cap first. The pouch fixes the second problem and nothing else.
A note on honesty: the Medium Pouch's exact material list was not legible on the source page. Its Technology level of 43 is clear, and the pattern from the Small Pouch suggests a scaled version of the same materials, but we are not going to invent the numbers.
Lockpicking Tools: Stop Walking Past Chests

| Tool | Tech | Replaces | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lockpicking Tool v1 | 16 | Copper Key | 10 Ingot, 10 Paldium Fragment, 5 Nail |
| Lockpicking Tool v2 | 25 | Silver Key | 20 Ingot, 20 Paldium Fragment, 10 Nail |
| Lockpicking Tool v3 | 53 | Gold Key | 30 Pal Metal Ingot, 30 Paldium Fragment, 20 Nail |
The description is refreshingly blunt: "No key? No problem! These tools will allow you to try and pry open any treasure chest that would normally require a Copper Key."
Note the word "try". The tools let you attempt the chest — they are not guaranteed openers, which is the trade for not needing the key.
This solves a real problem. Keys are drops rather than crafts: Salvage Rank 1 yields a Silver Key at 12.9% and Rank 2 a Gold Key at 17.7%, and they arrive when they arrive. A Lockpicking Tool v2 at Technology 25 costs 20 Ingot, 20 Paldium Fragment and 10 Nail — entirely automatable materials — and removes the dependency.
v1 at Technology 16 is nearly free and should be built the moment you unlock it.
v3 is the real step, at Technology 53 and 30 Pal Metal Ingot — which needs Pure Quartz and therefore the Technology 52 quarry. Gold chests are endgame content, and so is the tool that opens them.
What Else Is Worth Carrying

Two more items follow the same "carrying one is enough" pattern and are worth more than their obscurity suggests:
The Mysterious Accessory Box and Mystic Accessory Box each add +1 accessory equipment slot — Epic and Legendary rarity respectively. Since accessories are where Ability Glasses, the Ring of Mercy, emblems and charms live, and since slots are the binding constraint on all of them, these two boxes are among the most valuable passive items in the game.
The Hip Lantern (Technology 15) — "lights up automatically at night… Just one is enough to find your way in the dark" — costs 20 Ingot, 10 Wood, 10 Flame Organ and 5 Ancient Civilization Parts. It occupies no hand slot and removes the torch problem permanently.
Build order for all of it, cheapest first:
- Small Feed Bag (Tech 9) — 5 Wood, 10 Fiber, 3 Leather.
- Hip Lantern (Tech 15) — the only one needing Ancient Civilization Parts.
- Lockpicking Tool v1 (Tech 16).
- Average Feed Bag (Tech 14), then Large (23).
- Lockpicking Tool v2 (Tech 25) and Small Pouch (27).
- Huge Feed Bag (36) once Carbon Fiber is flowing.
- Lockpicking Tool v3 (53) and Giant Feed Bag (47) at the endgame.
Practical tips
- "Carrying one is enough" — none of these need to be used, only held.
- Small Feed Bag at Technology 9 costs 5 Wood, 10 Fiber, 3 Leather. Build it now.
- Feed Bag slots let you split food roles — nutrition for you, SAN-heavy dishes for your Pals.
- Pouches add slots, not weight. Different constraint from the Weight stat entirely.
- Lockpicking Tools replace Copper, Silver and Gold Keys — but you "try", not guarantee.
- The two Accessory Boxes each add an accessory slot — quietly among the best items in the game.
- v1.0.3 doubled Fiber from trees, which helps the 200-Fiber Giant Feed Bag.
Running your own Palworld 1.0 server
Every item here is built from materials a working base produces on its own — Fiber, Leather, Ingot, Nail, Carbon Fiber. On a dedicated Palworld 1.0 server those chains keep running between sessions, so the Huge Feed Bag's 90 Fiber and 10 Carbon Fiber are waiting in the chest rather than being a gathering trip. Full crossplay lets a group share the production, and one-click backups and automatic updates keep it safe.
Conclusion
Palworld hides several of its best quality-of-life items behind the phrase "Carrying one is enough." Feed Bags come in five tiers from Technology 9 to 47, each adding one food slot and feeding you and your Pals automatically — the Small costs 5 Wood, 10 Fiber and 3 Leather and should be built the moment it unlocks. Pouches at Technology 27 and 43 raise your inventory slots, which is a different constraint from carrying weight and is not fixed by the Weight stat or by Lunaris. Lockpicking Tools v1, v2 and v3 at Technology 16, 25 and 53 let you attempt Copper, Silver and Gold Key chests without the key, replacing a drop with a craft. And the Mysterious and Mystic Accessory Boxes each add an accessory slot, which makes them quietly some of the most valuable items you can carry.
