Every Melee Class in Dragonwilds at the Same Tier: A 294-to-160 Spread

A melee fight in Dragonwilds.

Comparing weapon classes across tiers tells you nothing, because a Mithril greataxe beating a bronze sword is not a finding. Comparing them at the same tier does. Every melee class in Dragonwilds has an Adamant version at power level 7 with durability 1600 — and between the best and the worst there is a 294-to-160 spread, or nearly double the damage per swing.

The Adamant Tier, Side by Side

Card ranking Dragonwilds' adamant melee weapons by damage.

WeaponBase damageTypeHands
Adamant Greataxe168 – 294SlashTwo
Adamant Warhammer156 – 244CrushTwo
Adamant Greatsword126 – 219SlashTwo
Adamant Mace114 – 202CrushOne
Adamant Sword93 – 168SlashOne
Adamant Scimitar76 – 160SlashOne

Every one of these is power level 7 with durability 1600. The tier is identical; only the class differs.

The greataxe tops the table at 168–294, and the scimitar sits at the bottom at 76–160. At the top end that is 1.8 times the damage per swing; at the bottom end, 2.2 times.

The two Crush weapons slot in unusually high. The Warhammer at 156–244 is second overall, and the Mace at 114–202 beats both one-handed Slash weapons. If your target is weak to Crush — and as our enemy weakness guide covers, 21 enemies are — the crush line is doing better than its reputation suggests.

The Adamant Scimitar's 76–160 is worth remembering for a different reason. Those are the exact figures the wiki's Dragon-tier equipment table also lists, because that table appears to have been copied from Adamant. If a guide quotes a Dragon Scimitar at 76–160, it is quoting Adamant.

What That Spread Actually Means

Card explaining damage per hit against damage per second in Dragonwilds.

These are per-swing numbers, and attack speed is not in the table. The wiki's class descriptions supply the missing half:

ClassSpeed
Daggers"Fast, light melee weapons" — the fastest
Swords"Second fastest hits per second, and the second most damage behind daggers"
Greatswords"Massive damage but a slow attack speed"
Greataxes"The most damage per hit… the attack speed is the slowest compared to the other weapons"

So the table above is almost exactly inverted once speed is applied. The greataxe wins every damage-per-hit comparison and loses on attack rate; the dagger loses every damage-per-hit comparison and, per the wiki's own phrasing, comes out ahead overall.

That "second most damage behind daggers" line is the surprising one, and it is the wiki's wording rather than an inference. It implies daggers lead on sustained output despite the Adamant Dagger sitting far below the greataxe on raw damage.

Which reframes the choice. You are not picking the biggest number — you are picking a fight length. Big slow weapons win short exchanges against high-armour targets; fast weapons win long ones.

Two-Handed Against One-Handed

Card comparing two-handed and one-handed melee in Dragonwilds.

The three heaviest weapons in the table are all two-handed. Greataxes, greatswords and the warhammer occupy both hands, which means no shield.

And a shield is not a small thing to give up in Dragonwilds. As our shields guide sets out, shields do not add armour or health — they block and parry with their own hitsplat — so losing one removes an entire defensive mechanic rather than a stat.

So the real comparison for a shield build is narrower:

One-handedDamage
Adamant Mace114 – 202
Adamant Sword93 – 168
Adamant Scimitar76 – 160

A shield build caps at the Adamant Mace's 114–202, against a greataxe's 168–294 with no block at all. That is the actual trade: roughly a third of your damage for the ability to parry.

And the mace is the best one-handed weapon in the table, which is not where most players look. If you are running sword-and-shield out of habit, the mace is 22% more damage at the top end for the same slot — the only cost being that it deals Crush rather than Slash, so check what you are fighting.

Practical tips

  • All six Adamant weapons are power level 7 with durability 1600 — the tier is identical.
  • Greataxe 168–294 down to Scimitar 76–160 — nearly double the per-swing damage.
  • The two Crush weapons rank high: Warhammer second, Mace best of the one-handers.
  • Greataxes hit hardest and swing slowest; the wiki puts daggers ahead overall.
  • Greataxes, greatswords and warhammers are two-handed — no shield.
  • A shield build caps at the Mace's 114–202.
  • The mace beats the sword by 22% at the top end for the same slot.
  • A "Dragon Scimitar at 76–160" is a copied Adamant figure.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

Adamant-tier gear is a mining, smelting and crafting project measured in weeks, and it only matters on a world that keeps it. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps your world persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups, so a weapon that took a fortnight is never lost with the host.

Conclusion

Compared at the same tier, Dragonwilds' melee classes are far further apart than they look. Every Adamant weapon is power level 7 with durability 1600, and the damage runs from the Greataxe at 168–294 through the Warhammer (156–244), Greatsword (126–219), Mace (114–202) and Sword (93–168) down to the Scimitar at 76–160 — nearly double, top to bottom. The two Crush weapons place unusually well, with the Mace the best one-handed weapon in the game at this tier. But per-swing damage inverts once speed is applied: the wiki describes greataxes as "the most damage per hit" with "the slowest" attack speed, and swords as "second most damage behind daggers" — putting the smallest weapon ahead on sustained output. And because greataxes, greatswords and warhammers are all two-handed, a shield build's real ceiling is the Mace's 114–202, which is roughly a third less damage in exchange for being able to parry at all.
