Every Enemy Weakness in Dragonwilds: All 83, Sorted by Damage Type

Adventurers fighting a Black Knight in an autumn forest in Dragonwilds.

Dragonwilds tells you an enemy's weakness through hitsplat colour once you are already hitting it. This is the list you would rather have beforehand: every enemy with a documented weakness — 83 of them — sorted by the damage type that hurts them. There are strong patterns underneath, and nineteen enemies are weak to two things at once, which means you are far less often locked into one weapon than you might think.

How the Weaknesses Split

Damage typeEnemiesThe short version
Water24Everything fire-themed
Crush21Armoured and skeletal things
Fire15Organic, rotting and plant
Stab13Lightly armoured and ranged types
Slash12Soft, summoner and spirit types
Ranged9Casters and skittish animals
Air8Skeletons and rotsworn

Water and Crush between them cover 45 of the 83. If you carry exactly two damage options into unfamiliar content, those are the two — a water-enchanted weapon and something blunt will have an answer for more than half the bestiary.

Air and Ranged are the two narrow ones, at eight and nine enemies. Neither is a bad damage type, but neither is a general-purpose answer — build for them when you know what you are fighting.

The Patterns Behind Them

Card showing the patterns behind Dragonwilds enemy weaknesses.

Anything fire-themed is weak to Water. The Water list reads like a roll-call of everything that burns you first:

Blue Dragon, Green Dragon, Red Dragon, Dragon Wolf, Hellhound, Hellrat, Lesser Demon, Tok-Xil, all four KotHaar demons (Hur, Kal, Ket, Xil), and the vault fire trio Vault Corruptor, Vault Incinerator, Vault Pyroclast.

That is the single most useful rule in the game. If a thing breathes fire, throws fire or is named after fire, water hurts it — and it covers all three dragon colours plus the entire demon roster.

Armoured and skeletal things fold to Crush. The Crush list is Black Knights (Guardian, Titan, Warrior), the skeletal line (Hoplite, Marauder, Necromancer), Vault Guardian Hulk, Vault Guardian Sentinel, Vault Overlord, the zogres, the garou leadership (King, Thane) and the rotsworn heavies. Bones and plate both break rather than cut.

Organic and rotting things burn. Fire covers wolves and the Dire Wolf, the goblin line (Runt, Warrior, Bruiser), zombies and the rotsworn/rotridden, both Wild Vines — and, amusingly, the livestock: Chicken, Rotridden Cow, Zombie Cow.

The exceptions are worth memorising precisely because they break the pattern. The Black Knight Titan is armoured — and is weak to Crush and Water, not one or the other. The Skeletal Necromancer is the only skeleton on the Water list. And the Black Knight Sniper breaks from its plate-armoured family entirely, taking Fire and Stab instead of Crush.

Nineteen Have Two Weaknesses

Card listing the Dragonwilds enemies that are weak to two damage types.

Nineteen of the 83 are weak to two damage types, and the pairings cluster:

PairingEnemies
Air + StabSkeletal Archer, Skeletal Warrior, Rotsworn Warrior, Rotridden Rat
Fire + SlashZombie, Rotsworn Zombie, Lost Soul, Wild Lapulis Vine
Ranged + SlashMage of Zamorak, Zamorakian Acolyte, Summoner Flament, Rat Master Skrexis
Air + CrushSkeletal Hoplite, Soulstone Sentinel
Crush + WaterBlack Knight Titan, Skeletal Necromancer
Fire + StabBlack Knight Sniper
Slash + StabNature Spirit
Stab + WaterLesser Demon

The Ranged + Slash group is the useful one to notice. Every caster in it — Mage of Zamorak, Zamorakian Acolyte, Summoner Flament — takes both, which means you can shoot them from range or close and cut them, and neither is the wrong choice. Against summoners specifically, closing is usually better because it stops the summons.

Air + Stab covers four skeleton-family enemies, which pairs neatly with a dagger and an air staff — the classic light-and-fast loadout works on more of the undead than its reputation suggests.

And Fire + Slash is the zombie answer. Zombie, Rotsworn Zombie and Lost Soul all take both, so a burning slash weapon is doing double duty. If you run Enchant Weapon: Fire on a sword, most of Fellhollow's population is covered by one setup.

How to Use This

Card summarising how to apply Dragonwilds enemy weaknesses in practice.

  1. Carry water and a blunt option as your defaults — they cover 45 of 83 enemies between them.
  2. Assume fire-themed enemies take water. Dragons, demons, hellhounds, the vault fire trio — all of them.
  3. Assume armour and bone take crush. Black Knights, skeletons, vault guardians, zogres.
  4. Check the exceptions: Black Knight Titan (Crush and Water), Black Knight Sniper (Fire and Stab, not Crush), Skeletal Necromancer (Crush and Water).
  5. Remember the doubles. Nineteen enemies give you a choice, so bring what you have rather than backtracking for the "correct" weapon.

Practical tips

  • Water is the widest weakness at 24 enemies; Crush is second at 21.
  • Everything fire-themed takes water — all three dragons, every KotHaar, the vault fire trio.
  • Armoured and skeletal enemies take crush, including all three Vault Guardians.
  • Nineteen enemies have two weaknesses — you usually have a choice.
  • Black Knight Sniper breaks its family's pattern: Fire and Stab, not Crush.
  • Air and Ranged are narrow at eight and nine enemies — situational, not general.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

Knowing a weakness only helps if you can go and test it, and swapping loadouts between attempts is far less painful on a world that stays put. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps the world live between sessions so a group can split the bestiary and compare notes, holds up to six players, and takes one-click backups before you go and try something on a Vault Overlord.

Conclusion

Across the 83 enemies with a documented weakness, Water is the widest answer at 24 and Crush the second at 21 — together covering more than half the bestiary, which makes a water-enchanted weapon and something blunt the two most useful things to carry into unfamiliar content. The patterns are strong enough to predict: anything fire-themed takes water (all three dragon colours, every KotHaar demon, hellhounds, hellrats, and the Vault Corruptor–Incinerator–Pyroclast trio), anything armoured or skeletal takes crush (Black Knights, the skeletal line, all three Vault Guardians, zogres), and anything organic or rotting burns — down to the chickens and cows. Watch three exceptions that break their own family: the Black Knight Titan (Crush and Water), the Black Knight Sniper (Fire and Stab, not Crush) and the Skeletal Necromancer (the only skeleton weak to Water). And note that nineteen enemies are weak to two damage types, so the "correct" weapon is more often a choice than a requirement.
