Dragonhide Armour in Dragonwilds: Ranged Gear From a Dragon You Killed

A dragon encounter in Dragonwilds.

Blue dragonhide is Dragonwilds' ranged armour, and it sits at power level 6 with 1,750 durability — a higher durability figure than most gear at its tier. What makes it worth understanding is not the armour but the chain behind it: a single blue dragon supplies both the hide for the armour and the scales for antifire potions, which are the two things you need to fight the next dragon.

Three Pieces, One Tier

PiecePower levelDurability
Blue Dragonhide Coif61,750
Blue Dragonhide Body61,750
Blue Dragonhide Chaps61,750

All three are explicitly ranged armour, not melee — the wiki labels each one "a power level 6 ranged armour." That distinction matters, because as our armour tier guide covers, Dragonwilds armour is split by combat style rather than being universal.

1,750 durability is high for the tier. For comparison, power 6 weapons sit at 1,300 to 1,600 and the power 7 Adamant melee line is 1,600. Dragonhide at power 6 outlasts Adamant gear at power 7 on durability alone.

All three are made at the armour bench, and — importantly — the recipe unlocks on obtaining the material rather than by reaching a skill level. You do not need to be a particular Artisan level; you need a dragon.

Power level 6 places it just below the Adamant tier, which makes it the last stop before the current ceiling for a ranged build.

The Material Chain

Card showing the Dragonwilds dragon material chain.

A blue dragon drops two things, and they go in different directions:

StepItem
1Blue Dragonhide — dropped by the dragon
2Tanned into Blue Dragon Leather
3Blue Dragon Leather is what the armour is crafted from
1bBlue Dragon Scale — also dropped by the dragon
2bGround at a grindstone into two Blue Dragon Scale Dust each
3bScale Dust makes antifire potions

One scale grinds into two dusts, which is a better ratio than it sounds and means your antifire supply scales faster than your scale drops do.

The two branches are the important part. The hide becomes armour; the scales become antifire potions. A dragon you kill for armour also arms you against the next one — which makes the first dragon disproportionately valuable, since it funds both halves of the next fight.

Do not sell scales. They look like a vendor item and they are the antifire reagent. Grind them before you sell anything, in the same way trophies should be checked before the Obliterator in other survival games.

Tanning is a separate step. The hide is not the leather — Blue Dragonhide must be tanned into Blue Dragon Leather before the armour bench will accept it, which is one more station in the chain than most gear needs.

Why This Matters for a Ranged Build

Card explaining why dragonhide matters for Dragonwilds ranged builds.

Ranged builds in Dragonwilds have unusually few power sources, and it is worth listing what they do not get:

BuffMeleeMagicRanged
15% damage itemWhetstoneMagical FocusNone
Focused XP potionAttack(no Magic potion in the line)None

As our whetstone guide covers, there is no ranged equivalent of the whetstone or the Magical Focus. A melee player hones for +15% for ten minutes; a caster imbues for the same; a ranged player has nothing to apply.

And the Focused potion line covers ten skills, but not Ranged — Attack is the only combat skill with an experience potion.

So a ranged build's power comes almost entirely from gear and ammunition. The bow, the arrow variant and the armour are the levers, and there is no consumable to compensate for a gap in any of them.

Which makes power level 6 dragonhide a genuinely significant upgrade rather than an incremental one — it is one of the few things a ranged build can actually improve.

Kill the dragon, tan the hide, grind the scales. In that order, and do all three before you move on.

Practical tips

  • Three pieces — Coif, Body, Chaps — all power level 6 with 1,750 durability.
  • All three are ranged armour, not melee.
  • 1,750 outlasts the power 7 Adamant line's 1,600.
  • The recipe unlocks on obtaining the material, not by skill level.
  • Hide must be tanned into Blue Dragon Leather before the armour bench accepts it.
  • One Blue Dragon Scale grinds into two Scale Dust.
  • Scale Dust makes antifire potions — never sell scales ungrounded.
  • Ranged has no whetstone and no Focused potion, so gear is the whole build.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

A dragon kill funds two separate crafting chains, and neither finishes in one session. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps your world and workshop persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups, so the hide you tanned on Sunday is still leather on Thursday.

Conclusion

Dragonwilds' blue dragonhide armour is three pieces — Coif, Body and Chaps — all at power level 6 with 1,750 durability, which is higher than the power 7 Adamant line's 1,600. All three are explicitly ranged armour, made at the armour bench, with recipes that unlock on obtaining the material rather than by skill level. The chain behind them is the part worth planning: a blue dragon drops both hide, which is tanned into Blue Dragon Leather for the armour, and scales, which are ground into two Scale Dust each for antifire potions — so one dragon funds both the armour and the protection you need for the next one. And this matters more to a ranged build than the equivalent would to any other, because Ranged has no whetstone, no Magical Focus and no Focused potion — its gear and ammunition are the entire build. Kill the dragon, tan the hide, grind the scales, and do not sell anything until you have.
