Cooking in Palworld 1.0: Every Recipe & Why Raw Food Is Costing You

Card comparing raw ingredients at zero SAN against cooked dishes that restore sanity.

Most Palworld players treat the Feed Box as a place to dump berries. It works, in the sense that nobody starves — but it is quietly the reason their base Pals keep going depressed. Raw ingredients restore 0 SAN. Every single one of them. Cooked dishes restore between 1 and 84. This guide covers the full recipe list, what each dish is actually worth, and the split that decides what you feed your Pals versus what you eat yourself.

A Cooking Pot without a Kindling Pal assigned does nothing. That is the first thing to check if food is not appearing.

Cooking Multiplies What You Put In

Card showing how much nutrition each recipe adds over its raw ingredients.

Raw ingredients are worth very little. Flour is 3 Nutrition. Wheat is 6. Red Berries, Tomato and Lettuce are 15 each. Milk is 12, Egg is 16.

Now compare what the pot does with them:

DishIngredientsRaw totalCookedSAN
Bread1 Flour3274
Pancake1 Flour, 1 Milk15425
Jam-Filled Bun1 Flour, 2 Red Berries33516
Salad2 Lettuce, 2 Tomato608411
Omelet1 Tomato, 2 Egg47677
Marinated Mushrooms1 Mushroom, 2 Red Berries43607
Mushroom Soup1 Mushroom, 2 Milk37527
Stir-Fried Vegetables2 Onion, 2 Carrot38547
Fried Egg1 Egg16231
Baked Berries1 Red Berries15211
Hot Milk1 Milk12161
Baked Mushroom1 Mushroom13181

Bread is the outlier and it is not close. One Flour worth 3 Nutrition becomes 27 Nutrition and 4 SAN — a 9× return on the ingredient, for 20 work. Nothing else in the game converts that efficiently. If you have a Wheat Plantation and a Mill, bread should be running constantly.

The single-ingredient bakes at the bottom of the table — Fried Egg, Baked Berries, Hot Milk, Baked Mushroom — are barely worth the pot time on nutrition alone. Their value is the 1 SAN, which is 1 more than the raw ingredient gives. Cheap, but not where you want your Kindling Pal spending its day.

The Split That Actually Matters

Card contrasting high-nutrition meat dishes against high-SAN mixed dishes.

Here is the finding worth taking away. Palworld's best dishes split cleanly into two groups that are almost mutually exclusive:

Pure meat — enormous nutrition, almost no SAN:

DishNutritionSAN
Mammorest Steak2523
Roast Reindrix2521
Broncherry Rib Roast2523
Munchill Steak851
Mozzarina Steak801
Fried Gloopie Balls801
Roast Eikthyrdeer701
Jellroy's Jolly Jelly601

Mixed dishes — high SAN, moderate nutrition:

Pizza18423
Rushoar Bacon 'n' Eggs16721
Grilled Lamball14718
Reindrix Stew13217
Carbonara12916
Chikipi Sauté9212
Stewed Galeclaw9212
Salt-Grilled Skutlass9010
French Fries3510

Roast Reindrix and Rushoar Bacon 'n' Eggs make the point. Roast Reindrix carries 252 Nutrition and 1 SAN. Bacon 'n' Eggs carries 167 Nutrition and 21 SAN — a third less hunger relief for twenty-one times the sanity.

    The practical rule:

  • Your Feed Box wants SAN. Base Pals working mines and quarries drain sanity at -0.15 continuously, and SAN is what stops them going depressed. Stock the mixed dishes.
  • Your own inventory wants nutrition. You are not managing a sanity meter on a boss run, you are managing hunger and weight. One Mammorest Steak at 252 is worth carrying; a stack of salads is not.

French Fries deserve a specific mention. At 35 Nutrition and 10 SAN it is the most sanity-dense dish in the game — 0.29 SAN per point of nutrition, against Pizza's 0.13 and Roast Reindrix's 0.004. If your Pals are well fed but still losing sanity, fries are the corrective. They cost 2 Potato and 1 High Quality Pal Oil.

Cake, and the Recipes That Gate Progression

Card showing Cake and Mushroom Cake costs and the systems they unlock.

Two recipes sit far above everything else:

DishIngredientsWorkNutritionSAN
Cake5 Flour, 8 Red Berries, 7 Milk, 8 Egg, 2 Honey2,00065682
Mushroom Cake5 Flour, 5 Mushroom, 3 Cavern Mushroom, 8 Egg, 2 Honey2,00067684

2,000 work against Bread's 20 — a hundred times the labour of any everyday dish. That cost is not really about food. Cake is the consumable the Breeding Farm runs on, which makes the Cooking Pot a prerequisite for breeding rather than a convenience.

Building one Cake means having, simultaneously:

  • A Wheat Plantation and a Mill (Flour)
  • A Berry Plantation (8 Red Berries)
  • A Ranch with Pals producing Milk and Eggs
  • A source of Honey

That is four systems feeding one recipe, and it is why breeding feels gated behind base-building rather than behind levels. Mushroom Cake is the variant tied to Palworld 1.0's mutation breeding, swapping the berries and milk for 5 Mushroom and 3 Cavern Mushroom.

A note on the meat dishes. Most named recipes require that specific Pal's meat — Mammorest Steak needs Mammorest Meat, Roast Reindrix needs Reindrix Venison, Salt-Grilled Skutlass needs Skutlass Sashimi. These come from killing rather than catching, which is the one place where butchering a Pal you already own is the practical route. Weigh that against the fact that Mammorest at Level 80 drops 10 – 20 Grass Radiant Gems at 100% — the same Pal is worth far more alive as a farm target.

Practical tips

  • Raw ingredients restore 0 SAN. Berries in the Feed Box relieve hunger and nothing else.
  • Bread is the best conversion in the game — 3 Nutrition of Flour becomes 27, for 20 work.
  • Feed Pals mixed dishes, carry meat yourself. Roast Reindrix is 252/1; Bacon 'n' Eggs is 167/21.
  • French Fries are the most SAN-dense dish at 10 SAN for 35 Nutrition.
  • The Cooking Pot needs a Kindling Pal or it will not run at all.
  • Cake costs 2,000 work and four base systems — plan it as infrastructure, not as cooking.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Cooking is a background process: a Kindling Pal at the pot turns crops into dishes on a timer, and a stocked Feed Box keeps your whole base sane while you are away. None of that happens with the game closed. A dedicated Palworld 1.0 server keeps the pot running, the plantations growing and the Feed Box topped up around the clock, so you come back to a base that has been feeding itself. Full crossplay lets a group divide farming and cooking duties, and one-click backups protect the operation.

Conclusion

Palworld's Cooking Pot unlocks at Technology 17, needs a Kindling Pal to run, and opens most of its recipe list at Technology 30. The reason to use it is not flavour: every raw ingredient in the game restores 0 SAN, while cooked dishes restore 1 to 84, and SAN is what keeps base Pals working. Bread is the single most efficient recipe — one Flour worth 3 Nutrition becomes 27 Nutrition and 4 SAN for just 20 work. Beyond that, split your cooking by purpose: pure-meat dishes like Roast Reindrix carry 252 Nutrition and 1 SAN and belong in your own pack, while mixed dishes like Pizza (184/23) and Rushoar Bacon 'n' Eggs (167/21) belong in the Feed Box. And treat Cake — 2,000 work, four base systems — as the infrastructure project that gates breeding.
