Voltures in Valheim: 200 Health, Weak to Frost, and Their Nests Are Single-Use

Voltures are the Ashlands' flying nuisance — aggressive, 200 health, and weak to Frost, which makes them one of the few things in a fire biome that you can freeze. The detail worth knowing before you plan a coastal route is that Volture nests spawn a Volture once and only once. Clear a nest and it is gone for good.

The Volture

| Health | 200 |
| Weak to | Frost |
| Behaviour | Aggressive |
| Found | Anywhere in the Ashlands |
| Also | Flying above the water along the Ashlands coast |
| Nests | Volture nests spawn one Volture, one time |
Two hundred health is modest by Ashlands standards. The Asksvin has 800 and the Morgen more again — a Volture is a nuisance rather than a threat, provided you are not fighting three of them while something larger closes in.
They are aggressive and they fly, which is the actual problem. A flying attacker in a biome where the ground is already hostile means you cannot simply disengage by moving.
The coastal spawn is worth planning around. Voltures appear above the water along the Ashlands coast, which is exactly where you arrive by Drakkar — so the first thing you meet on an Ashlands landing is often a Volture.
Nests Are Single-Use

A Volture nest spawns a Volture one time. Not on a timer, not on a respawn — once.
Which means a nest is a clearable object rather than an endless source. Destroy the nests around a landing site and that area is permanently quieter, in the same way that a cleared Troll Cave stays empty and a Putrid Hole's Morgen does not come back.
Valheim uses this pattern more than most players notice. Single-use spawn points are how the game lets you make a region genuinely safer rather than merely temporarily clear — and it rewards the effort of clearing thoroughly rather than fighting through.
But the coastal spawn is separate. Voltures found flying above the water are not nest-spawned, which means clearing every nest does not stop coastal Voltures appearing. You can make a landing site safe; you cannot make the coastline safe.
So the practical move is to clear nests around anywhere you intend to return to — a portal site, a mining camp, a Drakkar mooring — and accept that the open coast stays populated.
Frost Is the Answer

Voltures are weak to Frost, which is unusual in a fire biome — most Ashlands creatures are the opposite. As our Ashlands enemies guide covers, the Charred and their kin are built to punish fire-based thinking, and the Volture is a rare case where a cold weapon is correct.
Frost arrows are the obvious tool — 26 Pierce + 52 Frost, as our arrow guide sets out — and against a 200 HP flyer that is a short exchange.
The Staff of Frost is the other option, at 5 Eitr per cast the only sustained-fire staff in the game. Against a flying target you can hold the trigger on, that is a good match.
One caution about carrying Frost into the Ashlands. As our status effects guide notes, being Wet gives you 1.5× Frost damage taken — so if you are landing from a boat and still wet, you are more vulnerable to any frost around you, not less.
And the Lox Cape's 0.5× Frost resistance is the counter to that, though in the Ashlands you will more likely be wearing the Asksvin Cloak for its mobility.
At 200 health, none of this is a long fight. Bring frost, clear the nests around your landing site, and treat the coastal ones as weather.
Practical tips
- 200 health, aggressive, weak to Frost.
- Found anywhere in the Ashlands and above the water along the coast.
- Volture nests spawn one Volture, once — clearing a nest is permanent.
- Coastal Voltures are a separate spawn and keep appearing.
- Clear nests around portals, camps and moorings; ignore the open coast.
- Frost arrows (26 Pierce + 52 Frost) are the efficient answer.
- The Staff of Frost at 5 Eitr suits a flying target you can track.
- Being Wet gives you 1.5× Frost taken — dry off after a landing.
Running your own Valheim server
Clearing nests permanently is only worth doing on a world that keeps the result. A gamever Valheim server keeps the Ashlands as you left it for up to 10 players, with one-click backups so a cleared landing site stays cleared.
Conclusion
Voltures are Ashlands flyers with 200 health, aggressive behaviour and a weakness to Frost — unusual in a biome built to punish fire-based thinking, and the reason frost arrows (26 Pierce + 52 Frost) or the Staff of Frost at 5 Eitr are the efficient answer. The mechanic worth planning around is that Volture nests spawn a Volture one time only, so destroying the nests around a landing site, portal or mining camp makes that area permanently quieter — the same single-use pattern as Troll Caves and Putrid Hole Morgens. But Voltures also spawn independently above the water along the Ashlands coast, so clearing nests secures a site and never the coastline. And one caution when carrying frost: being Wet gives you 1.5× Frost damage taken, so dry off after a Drakkar landing before the fighting starts.
