The TzHaar Equipment in Dragonwilds: Four Pieces, All Obsidian, All Vestige Unlocks

An obsidian cavern in Dragonwilds.

Dragonwilds' TzHaar equipment is four pieces of obsidian gear at power level 7 — a melee weapon, a two-handed warhammer, a staff and a shield. None of them is a drop. Every one is a crafted item whose recipe is unlocked by studying a vestige, and those vestiges come from the Umbral Sands. Which means the obsidian junk you have been carrying is the actual reward.

Four Pieces, All Power Level 7

All four are power level 7, which is the current ceiling — so this is endgame equipment rather than a stepping stone.

Refined Obsidian is the shared material, and it is the reason these four belong together. Everything else about them differs: one uses Red Dragonhide Leather, one Dragonstone, two Scorch Leather.

Only the staff needs a different bench. Toktz-Mej-Tal is made at the Mystic Forge; the other three come off the Blacksmith's Bench. If you have three of the four and cannot find the staff recipe, that is why.

And the shield can be ascended, which puts it in the ascension system alongside the rest of your endgame gear rather than outside it.

Every One Is a Vestige Unlock

Toktz-Mej-TalElongated obsidian constructKotHaar-Hur
TokTz-Ket-XilUnyielding obsidian constructTok-Xil1/20

This is where the obsidian constructs turn out to matter. As our vestige catalogue noted, there are six obsidian constructs — Bludgeoning, Chipped, Crushed, Elongated, Fractured and Unyielding — named by shape rather than colour, which suggested they were equipment components. They are: they are the TzHaar recipe keys.

The drop rates are very different. TokTz-Ket-Xil's vestige is a 1/20 drop from Tok-Xil — one in twenty, which is a short farm. Toktz-Xil-Ak's is 2/100 from KotHaar-Kal — one in fifty, two and a half times rarer. The shield is the easy one; the melee weapon is the grind.

And note the naming trap. The Toktz-Xil-Ak vestige is the Shattered Black Blade (Umbral Sands) — the parenthesised one. There is a separate Shattered Black Blade vestige from elsewhere in the game, and having the wrong one unlocks nothing. That is the second time this pair has caused confusion, and it is worth checking the exact entry before you stop farming.

A Set Rather Than a Ladder

Card explaining that Dragonwilds' TzHaar gear serves three combat styles.

These four are not tiers of each other — they are one item per build.

  • Toktz-Xil-Ak — the melee weapon, and the rarest unlock at 2/100.
  • TzHaar-Ket-Om — a two-handed warhammer, so Crush damage and no shield.
  • Toktz-Mej-Tal — a power level 7 staff, for a magic build.
  • TokTz-Ket-Xil — the shield, and at 1/20 the easiest to unlock.

So a single enemy family serves three combat styles, which is unusual. Most Dragonwilds content rewards one build; the KotHaar and Tok-Xil roster rewards melee, magic and defence from the same farm.

The warhammer is worth reading carefully. As our melee comparison covers, a two-handed warhammer at Adamant tier deals 156–244 Crush — second only to the greataxe — but occupies both hands, which rules out pairing it with the TokTz-Ket-Xil you farmed alongside it. You cannot run the full set at once.

The natural pairing is Toktz-Xil-Ak with TokTz-Ket-Xil — one-handed weapon plus shield, both obsidian, both from the same region. That is the set the game seems designed around, and it is also the pairing with the worst combined drop odds.

Farm the shield first. At 1/20 it arrives roughly two and a half times faster than the blade, and a shield is useful with whatever weapon you already have while you keep farming.

Practical tips

  • Four TzHaar items, all power level 7, all needing Refined Obsidian.
  • Every one is a vestige unlock, not a drop.
  • The six obsidian constructs are the TzHaar recipe keys.
  • TokTz-Ket-Xil's vestige is 1/20 from Tok-Xil — the easiest.
  • Toktz-Xil-Ak's is 2/100 from KotHaar-Kal — two and a half times rarer.
  • Watch the naming: it wants the Shattered Black Blade (Umbral Sands), not the other one.
  • Only the staff uses the Mystic Forge; the rest use the Blacksmith's Bench.
  • TzHaar-Ket-Om is two-handed, so it cannot be paired with the TzHaar shield.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

A 2/100 vestige is a farm measured in sessions, and it only accumulates on a world that keeps your progress. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups, so a long Umbral Sands grind carries across weeks rather than restarting.

Conclusion

Dragonwilds' TzHaar equipment is four power level 7 items sharing one material — Refined Obsidian — and one unlock mechanism: every recipe comes from studying a vestige, not from a drop. Toktz-Xil-Ak (melee, Scorch Leather and Desert Thread), TzHaar-Ket-Om (two-handed warhammer, Red Dragonhide Leather), Toktz-Mej-Tal (staff, Dragonstone, and the only one made at the Mystic Forge) and TokTz-Ket-Xil (shield, Scorch Leather, and it ascends). The keys are the six obsidian construct vestiges, and the rates differ sharply: the shield's is 1/20 from Tok-Xil while the melee weapon's is 2/100 from KotHaar-Kal. Watch the naming — it wants the Shattered Black Blade (Umbral Sands), not the identically-named vestige from elsewhere. Farm the shield first, and note that the warhammer being two-handed means you can never run the full set at once.
