The Best Pal for Every Job in Palworld 1.0 (All Twelve Work Suitabilities)

Card listing the best Pal for each of Palworld's twelve work suitabilities.

Most base guides rank the Pals added in the latest update. This one ranks the whole roster — the single best worker for each of Palworld's twelve work suitabilities, whenever it was added. Ten of the twelve categories have exactly one Pal at the ceiling, which makes this a short list to memorise and a permanent answer to "who should I put here?" Here is the top of every category, and why a high rating is worth less than you think on a busy base.

The Best at Every Job

Work Suitability runs Level 1 to Level 8. Two categories never reach that ceiling at all.

Two categories never reach Lv8. Transporting stops at Lv7, shared by Knocklem and Knocklem Ignis. Farming stops far lower, at Lv4, shared by Sibelyx Primo and Dumud Gild. If you have either of those on a Ranch, you already own the best in the game and no amount of searching will improve on it.

The gap at the top is bigger than it looks. Nine of these categories are led by a single Pal, alone at Lv8, with the rest of the roster a full level behind. There is no committee at the top — there is one right answer per job.

The Pals Worth More Than Their Own Rating

Card showing the Pals whose partner skill grants +1 work suitability to every other base Pal.

Reading the table above and stopping there is the most common mistake in base building, because some of the most valuable base Pals in Palworld have almost no work rating at all.

Six Pals carry a partner skill that raises a suitability for every other Pal at the base:

PalIts own ratingWhat it does for everyone else
RibbunyHandiwork Lv1+1 Handiwork to all other Base Pals
Eikthyrdeer TerraLumbering Lv2+1 Lumbering to all other Base Pals
Cloveelow+1 Gathering to all other Base Pals
Tetroise—+1 Mining to all other Base Pals
Smokie Cryst—+1 Cooling to all other Base Pals
WumpoTransporting Lv6+1 Transporting to all other Base Pals

Ribbuny is the clearest case. As a crafter it is the worst in the game — Handiwork Lv1, the floor. As a resident it lifts the Handiwork level of every other Pal you own by one, and Handiwork is the most-demanded suitability in Palworld: 22 structures require it, including every workbench, every assembly line, the Sphere and Weapon lines, the Repair Bench, the Pal Gear Workbench, the Fishing Ponds, the Gold Coin Assembly Line and the Ancient Relic Recycler.

Upgrading one worker helps one station. A base-wide +1 helps every station at once — and Ribbuny is a first-hour common catch that most players have several of and never think about.

Wumpo is the odd one out — unlike the others it is a genuinely good worker in its own right at Transporting Lv6, joint second in that category. Note the buff belongs to base Wumpo only; Wumpo Botan has a different skill entirely (Ground damage reduction and Muddy immunity) and grants no work bonus.

None of these stack with themselves. One Ribbuny, one Clovee, one Tetroise — a second is a wasted slot on a roster with a hard cap.

Note what a high level does not do. All 22 Handiwork structures require only Handiwork level 1 to operate — level determines speed, not eligibility. Solenne does not unlock anything a Lv1 Pal cannot use; it simply finishes the work faster.

    Two Pals that appear twice:

Hartalis is Lv7 in Gathering and Lv7 in Lumbering — one Pal a single level off the ceiling in two different jobs, which is rare and makes it unusually valuable on a small base.

Knocklem and Knocklem Ignis are Lv7 in both Mining and Transporting — the top of one category and joint-second in the other. That pairing is exactly what a mining base wants, since ore has to be carried as well as dug.

A High Rating Is Worth Less Than You Think

Card explaining that work priority undermines high-rated generalist Pals.

Here is the trap. Palworld runs a fixed work priority order that no Pal can override, and the two jobs most people want automated sit near the bottom:

PriorityJob
1Defense
3Construction
5Grazing
6Generating Electricity
8Smelting and Kindling
9Cooking
14Mining
15Lumbering
19Cooling

A Lv8 mining Pal that also has Transporting and Handiwork will do those first, every time, because both outrank Mining. Its rating is wasted on a busy base.

    So the roster rule is:

  • Put your top specialists where priority is low — Mining, Lumbering, Cooling — and make sure they have as few other suitabilities as possible.
  • Put generalists where priority is high — Generating Electricity (6), Kindling (8), Grazing (5) — because those jobs get done regardless of what else the Pal can do.

Aegidron is the clean example. It is the only Mining Lv8 Pal in the game, and if mining is all it does at your base, that rating is fully realised. Give it a second job and you have diluted the best miner in Palworld.

And remember the ceiling. Your worker capacity equals your base level, capping at 30 workers at base level 30 — so there is a hard limit on how many specialists you can field, which is another argument for splitting extraction onto its own base.

Where the Top Pals Actually Are

Card noting which top-rated Pals are hard to obtain and which are not.

The top of the list is a mix of trivially available and genuinely hard:

    Easy:

  • Ribbuny and Eikthyrdeer Terra — not for their own ratings, but for the base-wide +1 each one grants.
  • Renjishi (Kindling Lv8) and Silvance (Medicine Lv8) — both Palworld 1.0 additions with full catch guides.
  • Mycora — ties Silvance at Medicine Lv8, so you have two routes to the ceiling in that category.

    Harder:

  • Aegidron (Mining Lv8) — the sole Pal at the top of the most-wanted extraction job.
  • Celesdir Noct (Lumbering Lv8) — likewise alone at the top.
  • Blazamut and Blazamut Ryu (Mining Lv7) — which also drop 10 Coal at a 100% rate, so hunting them pays twice.
  • Shaolong (Watering Lv8) and Dandilord (Planting Lv8).

    Hardest:

  • Jetragon (Gathering Lv8) — a legendary, and the only Pal at that ceiling.
  • Bastigor (Cooling Lv8) — a tower boss Pal.
  • Solenne (Handiwork Lv8) — the sole ceiling Pal in the busiest category in the game.

A practical shortcut: because breeding passes down suitabilities, filling your base with top-rated workers is usually a Breeding Farm problem rather than a catching problem. That means Cake, which means a Wheat Plantation, a Mill, a Berry Plantation and a Ranch all running — the same four systems the expedition roster needs.

And do not overlook condensing. Raising a Pal's star rank with 4, 8, 12 and 24 duplicates for +5% through +20% improves its work speed alongside its combat stats, so a condensed mid-tier worker can out-produce a fresh high-tier one.

Practical tips

  • Work Suitability runs Lv1 – Lv8, and nine categories have exactly one Pal at the ceiling. Learn those nine names and the roster question is settled.
  • A base-wide +1 beats a high individual rating. Keep one Ribbuny (+1 Handiwork) even though it is a Lv1 crafter itself.
  • Transporting caps at Lv7 and Farming at Lv4 — do not hunt for a Lv8 that does not exist.
  • Level sets speed, not eligibility — every Handiwork structure needs only level 1.
  • Put top specialists on low-priority jobs (Mining 14, Lumbering 15, Cooling 19) with no other suitabilities.
  • Hartalis is Lv7 in both Gathering and Lumbering; Knocklem is Lv7 in both Mining and Transporting.
  • Breed for suitability rather than catching, and condense what you have.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

A roster of Lv8 specialists is only worth the hours they spend working — and on a save you open twice a week, that is very few. A dedicated Palworld 1.0 server keeps every one of them producing around the clock, which is when the difference between a Lv3 and a Lv8 worker actually compounds. Full crossplay lets a group breed and share top-rated workers across platforms, and one-click backups protect a roster that took weeks to assemble.

Conclusion

Work Suitability runs Level 1 to Level 8, and nine of the twelve categories are led by a single Pal standing alone at the ceiling: Solenne (Handiwork), Celesdir Noct (Lumbering), Aegidron (Mining), Shaolong (Watering), Dandilord (Planting), Renjishi (Kindling), Jetragon (Gathering), Bastigor (Cooling) and Orserk (Generating Electricity). Silvance and Mycora tie at Medicine Lv8, while Transporting caps at Lv7 (Knocklem, Knocklem Ignis) and Farming at just Lv4 (Sibelyx Primo, Dumud Gild). The most actionable fact is the one the table hides: a Pal that grants +1 of a suitability to every other worker is worth more than a single high rating, which is why a Ribbuny — Handiwork Lv1, the worst crafter in the game — belongs at your base anyway. Temper all of it with the priority order: level sets speed, not eligibility, and a Lv8 miner that also transports will transport first. Specialists at the bottom of the list, generalists at the top.
