Finding Yaks

 

     To find Yaks, head to the Albaneve Summits, a new, frigid biome in the update. You can’t miss them—these wool-covered creatures are scattered all over the area, especially near the mountain caves. Once you’ve set foot in this harsh environment, start searching. The Yaks don’t hide well, so you’ll be able to spot them pretty quickly as they wander the snow-covered terrain.

 

 

 

Taming Yaks

 

     Yaks have 3 hearts to fill in order to gain their trust, and the process is similar to taming other wild animals in the game.

 

     First, craft Yak Food Bait at Emily the Farmer. The bait will attract the Yaks. When you’ve found a Yak, throw the bait near it, but don't get too close—sneak up slowly.

 

 

     If the Yak notices you, you’ll see a question mark appear, signaling that it’s aware of your presence. Wait for the yellow heart icon to appear. It means the animal doesn’t pay attention to you anymore. Continue moving forward carefully. When you’re within reach, pet the Yak by pressing E. You’ll notice a heart appear above its head. Repeat the process for each heart until all of them are red.

 

 

     Be cautious, though—if you move too fast or get too close without throwing bait first, the Yak will become alerted and run away, and you’ll lose all your progress. If this happens, simply wait for it to stop moving, and try again.

 

 

 

Keeping Your Yak Happy

 

     Once you’ve successfully tamed your Yak and brought it back to your base, the real work begins. Yaks are hardy creatures, but they still require shelter and food to stay productive. You’ll need to provide a Yak Pillow, a Yak Feeder, and, of course, Yak Food. If you’ve got these in place, your Yak will start producing Raw Wool, which can be spun into Wool at the Improved Spinning Wheel.      Want more Yaks? You’re in luck! Yaks can breed if you have at least two of them. Breeding happens at night, but only if you have extra pillows available—one pillow per animal.
