How to Bring Forests Back to Life in Icarus
Trees have always been a vital part of survival in Icarus, providing players with crucial resources like wood for crafting and fire fuel. But with deforestation happening at an alarming rate in the game, many players have found themselves in barren landscapes with no trees left to chop. That all changes with the introduction of the Tree Regrowth system! This update brings a new tool, the Localized Terraforming Device, which allows players to bring trees back to life and keep their world full of lush forests.

The Localized Terraforming Device
The Localized Terraforming Device is the key to bringing trees back to your world. It functions similarly to the Thumper, which replenishes ore, but instead of restoring minerals, it regenerates trees.

When activated, the device releases a powerful burst of terraforming enzymes into the air, triggering tree regrowth in the surrounding area. However, to get this device up and running, you’ll need power and a special resource - Condensed or Synthetic Enzymes.
Gathering the Enzymes
To power the Localized Terraforming Device, collect Condensed or Synthetic Enzymes. Condensed Enzymes can be obtained by placing Vapor Condensers on top of Geysers. The geyser’s vapor condenses into exotic materials, including Condensed Enzymes.
Alternatively, you can create Synthetic Enzymes at the Chemistry Bench using materials like organic resin, spoiled meat, and charcoal. Synthetic Enzymes are easier to craft but take longer to activate the device, while Condensed Enzymes are much more efficient but harder to obtain.

How to Use the Localized Terraforming Device
Once you have gathered the necessary enzymes, it’s time to start regrowing trees. First, craft the Localized Terraforming Device in the Fabricator using titanium plates, electronics, steel screws, and epoxy. Once you have the device, place it in the desired location, ensuring it is connected to a power source like a solar panel or generator. Next, insert either Condensed or Synthetic Enzymes into the device’s fuel slot. Once charged, the device will trigger a storm-like effect, signaling the start of the tree regrowth process. Trees will begin to respawn within a set radius around the device, restoring the once-barren land to its former green glory.

Tree Regrowth and Open World Gameplay
When Icarus was first launched, it was designed as a session-based survival game where players would complete missions and extract from the planet. In this original format, tree regrowth wasn’t necessary since players weren’t staying in the same world for long. However, with the addition of Open World mode, where players can build long-term settlements and complete ongoing missions, a tree regrowth system became more apparent. By adding this feature, Icarus allows players to maintain a renewable wood supply, making long-term survival more manageable.
Optimizing Tree Regrowth
Consider its placement carefully to make the most of the Localized Terraforming Device. Trees will only regrow within a specific area around the device, so positioning it near your base or high-traffic areas will ensure a steady supply of resources. Additionally, buildings and structures can block tree regrowth, so leaving open spaces for new trees to spawn is essential. Setting up multiple devices in different locations can help maximize your tree production if you're planning large-scale forestry operations.
With the Localized Terraforming Device, players can finally restore trees and maintain the lush landscapes of Icarus. By gathering the right enzymes, strategically placing the device, and managing your resources effectively, you can ensure that forests continue to thrive.
