How to Beat Fader in Valheim (Summon, Attacks & Strategy)

Fader has 25,000 health on your own and gains 7,500 more for every additional player — so a group of four faces 47,500, nearly double. It is immune to fire while fighting you in the Ashlands, it has four attacks that cannot be blocked at all, and one of those cannot be dodged either. It also speeds up as it dies. This is Valheim's hardest fight by a wide margin, and almost nothing you learned from the earlier bosses transfers.
On sourcing. Iron Gate do not publish creature stat blocks. The health, damage, cooldown and resistance figures below come from community datamining and can change with any patch.
Fader at a Glance
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Health (solo) | 25,000 |
| Per additional player | +7,500 — 32,500 for two, 40,000 for three, 47,500 for four |
| Biome | Ashlands |
| Summon | 3 Bells, each crafted from 3 Bell Fragments at the Black Forge — 9 fragments total |
| Immune to | Fire, Spirit, Chop, Pickaxe |
| Resistant to | Pierce ×0.5 |
| Neutral to | Blunt, Slash, Frost, Lightning, Poison |
| Drops | 5 Fader Relic (100%), Fader Trophy (100%) |
The per-player scaling is worth thinking about before you invite people. Every boss in Valheim gains health with more players, but this is the one where the number is documented and large. A duo fights 32,500, not 25,000 — bringing a friend adds 30% more health for one more damage source. It helps, but far less than people assume.
Immune to Its Own Element

Fader is immune to Fire. In the Ashlands. Where everything is on fire.
That is the single most important line in this guide, because the Ashlands progression naturally pushes you toward fire gear, and every point of it is wasted here. Pierce is also halved, which removes bows as a primary option for the second boss running.
What works: Blunt, Slash, Frost, Lightning and Poison are all neutral at ×1. Frost in particular is thematically and mechanically the right call — a Frostner-style weapon or frost arrows if you insist on ranged, though the Pierce penalty still applies to the arrow's physical component.
Spirit is immune as well, so the Mistlands magic staves that lean on it are out.
Four Attacks You Cannot Block

Unblockable:
| Attack | Damage | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wall of Fire | 80 Fire + 80 Spirit | 12 circles — 60 s cooldown |
| Flamebreath | 60 Fire | 17 m line — 25 s |
| Fissure | 120 Fire + 80 Spirit | Unblockable AND undodgeable — 30 s |
| Lingering Fire | 80 Fire + 80 Spirit | 5 m radius, burns for 20 s |
Blockable:
| Attack | Damage | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|
| Bite | 210 Pierce | 3 s |
| Claw (each) | 200 Pierce | 3 s |
| Spin | 140 Pierce, 8.5 m radius | 20 s |
| Roar | Summons 8 Charred | 45 s |
The Fissure is the attack that defines this boss. It cannot be blocked and it cannot be dodged — it is unavoidable damage on a timer, at 120 Fire + 80 Spirit. Your entire survival plan has to assume it lands, which means fire resistance and a health pool deep enough to eat it repeatedly, not perfect play.
The melee attacks are the ones a shield actually helps with, and they hit hard — 210 and 200 Pierce on 3 second cooldowns. A Bonemass power shield build, with no block stamina cost and 5 stamina returned per block, is genuinely valuable here.
It Speeds Up as It Dies

Three of Fader's attacks come off cooldown faster as its health drops:
| Attack | Normal | Threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Meteors | 25 s | 18 s below 25% health |
| Fissure | 30 s | 20 s below 35% health |
| Roar | 45 s | 26 s below 35% health |
The last third is the hardest third, and by a large margin — the unavoidable Fissure arrives 33% more often while add spawns nearly double in frequency.
This inverts the usual boss rhythm. In most fights you are strongest at the end because the boss is nearly dead. Here you must budget your mead, food and healing so that you still have resources when it crosses 35% — that is the real difficulty spike, not the opening.
The Meteors are 40 Blunt + 120 Fire each, ten of them, with lingering flames afterwards. They are telegraphed, so movement counters them, but at 18 second cooldowns late in the fight you are moving almost constantly.
The Reward
5 Fader Relics and the Fader Trophy both drop at 100% — no roll, no bad luck.
The trophy grants a Forsaken Power:
100% Adrenaline increase, 50% reduced stagger meter modifier, and 50% fire resistance.
The Adrenaline clause ties into the combat system added alongside it — see Trinkets & Adrenaline, which most players never engage with. The 50% reduced stagger meter modifier is the practical half: it makes you far harder to stagger, which matters against everything that hits as hard as the Ashlands does.
How to Beat Fader
- Craft 9 Bell Fragments into 3 Bells at the Black Forge.
- Think carefully about group size — each extra player adds 7,500 health.
- Leave every fire weapon at home. It is immune.
- Bring Frost, Lightning, Blunt or Slash. Not Pierce — halved.
- Bring fire resistance and deep food, because the Fissure is unavoidable.
- Use a shield for the melee, which is where blocking actually works.
- Budget your resources for below 35% health, when three attacks speed up at once.
- Take the trophy to the Sacrificial Stones.
Practical tips
- 25,000 solo, +7,500 per extra player. A duo faces 32,500 — bringing help is not the shortcut it looks like.
- Immune to Fire and Spirit in the fire biome. Frost or Lightning instead.
- The Fissure cannot be blocked or dodged. Plan to absorb it, not avoid it.
- Bite and Claws hit for 210 and 200 Pierce on 3 second cooldowns — a shield is worth the slot.
- Below 35% health three attacks speed up. Save resources for the end, not the start.
- Both drops are 100% — one clean kill gives 5 Fader Relics and the trophy.
Running your own Valheim server
Fader is the fight a group prepares for across several sessions — Bell Fragments, fire resistance mead, Ashlands gear, and a shared decision about how many people should actually be in the arena given the health scaling. A gamever Valheim server keeps that world live for up to 10 players, so the preparation and the attempt do not have to happen on the same evening. One-click backups protect a world at the end of the progression chain.
Conclusion
Fader is Valheim's hardest boss: 25,000 health solo and +7,500 for every additional player, so a group of four faces 47,500. Summon it in the Ashlands with 3 Bells, each built from 3 Bell Fragments at the Black Forge — nine fragments in total. It is immune to Fire and Spirit despite being the fire biome's boss, and resists Pierce at ×0.5, which leaves Blunt, Slash, Frost, Lightning and Poison as your options. Four of its attacks cannot be blocked — and the Fissure at 120 Fire + 80 Spirit cannot be dodged either, so you plan to survive it rather than avoid it. Below 35% health the Fissure, Roar and Meteors all come off cooldown faster, which makes the final third the real difficulty spike. Both drops — 5 Fader Relics and the trophy — are guaranteed.
