Bolts and Enchanted Bolts in Dragonwilds: Two Lines, and One Stops Short

A crossbow volley in Dragonwilds.

Dragonwilds has two bolt lines: ordinary bolts following the metal ladder, and five enchanted variants that sit alongside them. Two things about that pairing are worth knowing before you commit crafting materials. There is no enchanted adamant bolt — the enchanted line stops one tier short. And Bone Bolts, made from an early material, deal exactly as much damage as Enchanted Steel Bolts.

The Ordinary Bolts

Adamant Bolt767
Mithril Bolts6
Steel Bolts5
Bone Bolts495
Blurite Bolts4
Iron Bolts4
Bronze Bolts3

The Adamant Bolt at 76 matches the Adamant Crossbow exactly, which is the pattern to plan around: as with arrows and bows, the ammunition and the weapon multiply, and a mismatched pair wastes whichever is higher.

Bolts follow the same metal ladder as everything else — Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant — with Blurite slotting in at power 4 alongside Iron, exactly as the Blurite Crossbow does at the same tier.

Match the bolt to the crossbow, not to your level. A power-7 Adamant Crossbow loaded with Bronze Bolts is a power-3 weapon in practice.

Bone Bolts Are the Anomaly

Enchanted Steel Bolts495

Those are the same numbers. A bolt made from bone sits at power level 5 with 49 damage — identical to an enchanted steel bolt on both counts.

Bone is an early material and steel is not. Animal bones are available from the first hours of a save; steel requires a smelting chain and, as the dagger recipes show, steel-tier crafting also wants Vault Shards. Bone Bolts reach the same damage figure for a fraction of the supply chain.

The caveat is honest: this is a raw damage comparison. An enchanted bolt presumably carries an enchant effect that a bone bolt does not, and the wiki's tables do not spell out what each enchant does. On the damage column alone, bone matches enchanted steel — which is worth knowing, and is not the same as saying they are equivalent in a fight.

So the practical reading is: do not skip Bone Bolts because they sound primitive. At power level 5 they are competitive ammunition, and they cost you animal bones rather than a forge.

The Five Enchanted Bolts

Enchanted Bronze BoltsBronze

Enchanted Mithril BoltsMithril

There are five, and there is no enchanted adamant bolt. The ordinary line runs to Adamant at power 7; the enchanted line stops at Mithril, power 6.

That is a real planning consequence. At the top tier you are choosing between an Adamant Bolt at 76 and an Enchanted Mithril Bolt one power level below it. The endgame does not offer both maximum damage and an enchant — you pick one.

And it means the enchanted line is a mid-game system. Its usefulness peaks at Mithril and then the ordinary Adamant bolt overtakes it, which suggests enchanted bolts are meant to bridge the tiers rather than crown them.

Note that the enchant is per metal, not per element. Unlike arrows, which come in barbed, fire and poisoned variants of each metal, bolts have one enchanted version per metal — so there is no bolt equivalent of choosing between Bleed, Burning and Poison.

Which makes bolts simpler than arrows and less flexible. A crossbow user has a damage ladder and one enchant option; a bow user has a damage ladder and three status options at every tier.

Practical tips

  • Adamant Bolt is 76, matching the Adamant Crossbow exactly.
  • The bolt and the crossbow multiply — never mismatch tiers.
  • Bone Bolts are 49 damage at power level 5 — the same as Enchanted Steel.
  • Bone is an early material, so those bolts skip most of the supply chain.
  • There are five enchanted bolts — Bronze, Blurite, Iron, Steel, Mithril.
  • There is no enchanted adamant bolt. The line stops one tier short.
  • At endgame you choose damage OR an enchant, not both.
  • Bolts have one enchant per metal, unlike arrows' three status variants.

Ammunition is consumed, which makes a crossbow build a supply chain rather than a single craft. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps your base and its chests persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups, so a stocked quiver is still stocked when the group is ready.

Conclusion

Dragonwilds has two bolt lines. The ordinary one follows the metal ladder to the Adamant Bolt at 76 damage, power level 7 — matching the Adamant Crossbow exactly, since bolt and crossbow multiply. The enchanted line has five entries — Bronze, Blurite, Iron, Steel and Mithril — and there is no enchanted adamant bolt, so it stops one power level short of the top. At endgame that forces a choice between maximum damage and an enchant, never both, which makes enchanted bolts a mid-game bridge rather than a final upgrade. The standout oddity is Bone Bolts: 49 damage at power level 5, exactly matching Enchanted Steel Bolts on both figures despite being made from a first-hour material — a raw-damage comparison rather than a full one, but worth knowing before you dismiss them. And unlike arrows, bolts have one enchant per metal rather than three status variants, which makes the crossbow's ammunition simpler and less flexible than the bow's.
