The Six Specialist Storages in Dragonwilds: 48 Logs, 48 Ores, 48 Fish, and Two Display Racks

A lumber storage beside a sawmill in Ashenfall.

Alongside the general chests, Dragonwilds has six containers that only accept one kind of thing — and they are far better at it than a chest is. Lumber storage holds 48 wood items. Ore and stone storage holds 48 ores, bars and stone. A fishing barrel holds 48 fish.

One of them also does something no chest does: a lumber storage placed next to a sawmill collects the planks automatically.

The Six

Fishing barrel48 fishRaw fish only
Tackle box48 Fishing item slotsNets, rods and fishing gear
Weapon rack6 weaponsWeapons — including torches

Three of the six hold 48, which beats the Oak chest's 48 general slots only in that they do not consume general storage — the win is separation, not capacity.

The inclusion lists are the useful detail. Ore and stone storage takes tar and dragon tooth, which are not obviously ores; lumber storage takes Blightwood, which is not from an ordinary tree; and the weapon rack counts a torch as a weapon.

The two racks are display furniture with a storage function — 6 weapons and 5 armour pieces — so they are for the set you are between rather than the collection you are hoarding.

The Sawmill Trick

Card explaining the Dragonwilds lumber storage auto-deposit.

A lumber storage placed within three metres of the receiving end of a sawmill collects the planks automatically. No interaction, no carrying.

And it scales. You can build multiple sawmills with their sawing ends within about two metres of the same storage, and every one of them deposits into it.

That turns milling into a genuinely passive process. Combined with the sawmill's own behaviour — fill it before sleeping and a whole stack processes instantly — a plank supply becomes something that happens while you do other things.

Lumber storage unlocks at Woodcutting 67, which is late; before that, plank collection is manual.

It costs Maple Logs 16 and Adhesive 2, at 26 Construction XP — the most expensive storage on the list, and the only one with an automation payoff.

They Are Linked Containers Too

The "Linked" checkbox applies here as well. The same 12-metre crafting radius that makes general chests useful applies to specialist storage — so an ore and stone storage ticked as Linked feeds your smithing bench without a single manual transfer.

That is the strongest argument for the specialist containers. A fletching bench needs logs and feathers; a blacksmith's bench needs bars and stone. Putting each station beside its own dedicated, Linked container removes almost all inventory management from a base.

And every one of them can be locked, per container, by whoever built it — see our storage and gear-theft guide.

Cluster by station, not by material type. The instinct is to line the walls with storage; the correct layout is a cluster of containers around each bench, inside 12 metres.

What to Build, and When

Card recommending which Dragonwilds specialist storage to build.

  • Ore & stone storage early. Ores, bars, stone, tar and dragon tooth are the bulkiest things you carry, and separating them clears general chests immediately.
  • Lumber storage at Woodcutting 67, and place it within three metres of the sawmill's receiving end — the auto-deposit is the point.
  • Fishing barrel and tackle box together, if you fish. 48 raw fish and 48 gear slots is an entire hobby's storage in two objects.
  • Weapon rack and armour mannequin for the working set, not the collection — 6 and 5 slots respectively.
  • Tick "Linked" on all of them, and keep them inside 12 metres of the bench they feed.
  • Remember what each one accepts. A container that refuses an item is not broken; ore and stone storage will not take a log.

The pattern across the whole system: Dragonwilds rewards a tight base far more than a large one, because the 12-metre radius and the three-metre sawmill rule both punish sprawl.

A base built around automatic plank deposits only pays off on a world that keeps processing between sessions. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups.

Conclusion

Dragonwilds has six specialist storages, three of which hold 48 of their own category: lumber storage for logs and planks including Blightwood, ore and stone storage for ores, bars and stone including tar and dragon tooth, and a fishing barrel for raw fish, alongside a 48-slot tackle box for nets and rods. The two display containers are much smaller — a weapon rack at 6 (torches count) and an armour mannequin at 5 (capes count) — and suit the set you are wearing rather than a collection. The standout is the lumber storage, which collects planks automatically when placed within three metres of a sawmill's receiving end, and which accepts deposits from several sawmills at once; it unlocks at Woodcutting 67 and costs Maple Logs 16 and Adhesive 2. All of them honour the "Linked" checkbox, so the winning layout is a tight cluster of dedicated containers around each bench, inside the 12-metre crafting radius.
