The Pal Surgery Table in Palworld 1.0: Buy the Passives You Were Rerolling For

Card showing the Pal Surgery Table's two functions: gender change and passive skill implants.

The standard advice on Palworld passive skills is to catch the same Pal over and over and hope for a better roll. That advice is out of date. At Technology 38 there is a structure that lets you implant passive skills directly, for gold — no breeding, no rerolling, no luck. It also changes a Pal's gender, which quietly removes the most annoying blocker in breeding. The Pal Surgery Table is described in game as "A facility where surgery can be performed on Pals to change their gender or passive skills", and it is one of the most consequential structures most players never build.

The Pal Surgery Table at a Glance

FieldDetails

Build cost30 Refined Ingot, 20 High Quality Cloth, 10 Corrosive Solvent
Work SuitabilityHandiwork
Function 1Change a Pal's gender (consumes a Pal Reverser)
Function 2Implant passive skills (consumes an implant, costs gold)
Procedures54 distinct operations

Staff it with a Handiwork Pal. The source lists "Handiwork ×10" for this table under a workload column, and comparable structures use that notation for work amount rather than a required level — the Ore Mining Site shows "Handiwork ×100" while requiring only Mining level 1. So treat the ×10 as the job's size, not an entry barrier, and assign whatever Handiwork Pal you have spare.

If you want the best: Ribbuny is the top-rated Handiwork Pal in the game, with Ribbuny Botan just behind — and Ribbuny is an early, common catch, which makes the strongest crafter in Palworld one most players already own and never assign. Solenne (Handiwork Lv8) is the best of the 1.0 additions.

The Budget Implants — 10,000 Gold

Card listing Palworld's 10,000-gold passive skill implants and their effects.

PassiveEffect
BraveAttack +10%
Hard SkinDefense +10%
Nimble+10% movement speed
Sleek Stroke+30% movement speed on water
Fit as a FiddleMax stamina +25% (rideable Pals only)
ImpatientActive skill cooldown reduction 15%
SeriousWork Speed +20%
Work SlaveWork Speed +30% / Attack -30%
Dainty EaterHunger decreases 10% slower
Positive ThinkerSAN drops 10% slower
Fine Furs+3% to item sale value
InsomniaDoes not sleep — continues working at night
Mercy HitPacifist — will not reduce a target's Health below 1

Two of these are base-management gold at the entry price.

Insomnia is the standout. A Pal that "does not sleep and continues to work even at night" is a straightforward throughput multiplier on a base that runs unattended — and it costs 10,000 gold, which is five Successful Bounty Tokens at the 2,000-gold conversion rate.

Positive Thinker attacks Palworld's real base problem directly. Extraction sites drain SAN at -0.15 per second per working Pal, and a 10% reduction on that compounds across every hour the base runs. Combined with a Hot Spring (+0.50 SAN/s) and the Alpha Wave Generator, it is the third lever on the same meter.

Mercy Hit deserves a mention for catchers. A Pal that will not drop a target below 1 HP is a capture assistant — the same job the Ring of Mercy does for your own weapon.

The 50,000-Gold Tier

Card listing Palworld's 50,000-gold implants including Musclehead and Artisan.

PassiveEffect
FerociousAttack +20%
MuscleheadAttack +30% / Work Speed -50%
Burly BodyDefense +20% / Immune to Flinch
ArtisanWork Speed +50%
SerenityCooldown reduction 30% / Attack +10%
Runner+20% movement speed
Ace Swimmer+40% movement speed on water
Infinite StaminaMax stamina +50% (rideable Pals only)
Vanguard+10% Player Attack
Stronghold Strategist+10% Player Defense
Motivational Leader+25% Player Work Speed
Wellness WatcherPlayer Stamina consumption -5%
Healing CoachPlayer Auto Health Regeneration +5%
Reload MasterPlayer Reload Speed +4%
Noble+5% to item sale value

The pricing is roughly linear with the effect. Brave is +10% Attack for 10,000; Ferocious is +20% for 50,000. You pay five times as much for twice the result, which means the budget tier is the better value per gold — worth knowing if you are filling four slots on several Pals rather than perfecting one.

Musclehead is the exception worth paying for. At Attack +30% it beats Ferocious outright, and its Work Speed -50% penalty is irrelevant on a combat Pal that never touches a workbench. If you are building a fighter, this is the attack slot.

Artisan at Work Speed +50% is its mirror image for base Pals, and Burly Body's Immune to Flinch is worth more than the raw Defense number in practice.

Note the "Player" passives. Vanguard, Stronghold Strategist, Motivational Leader, Wellness Watcher, Healing Coach and Reload Master buff you, not the Pal carrying them. That is a different design: those slots are spent on a Pal you keep in the party for your own benefit.

Where Implants Come From

Card showing that implants are bought from the Arena and Bounty merchants.

You cannot craft implants. They are bought, and the two shops carry different stock:

SourceImplants
Arena MerchantSerenity, Infinite Stamina, Runner, Ace Swimmer, Noble, Healing Coach, Reload Master
Bounty MerchantMusclehead, Burly Body, Artisan, Vanguard, Stronghold Strategist, Motivational Leader, Wellness Watcher

That makes the Arena and bounty hunting into passive-skill income, which reframes both. The Arena's value was already its first-clear rewards; bounties were already the best gold route at 2,000 Gold Coins per Successful Bounty Token. Now both also convert directly into Pal power.

There is a third category — disposable implants, which are "consumed on use, but can grant more powerful passive skills." Named examples include Immortality ("Absorbs 100% of damage dealt and restores Health. Pal Auto Health Regeneration Rate +100%. Attack +15%"), God of Destruction, Twin-Edged Holy Blade and Babysitter. These sit above the purchasable tiers in power and are spent permanently, so they belong on a Pal you have already settled on.

And the gender change. The Pal Reverser"A mysterious medicine that can change a Pal's gender" — is used here, and it comes from the Bounty Shop, the Arena Shop, and treasure boxes in enemy camps. If you have bred a perfect Pal of the wrong gender, this is the fix, and it is far cheaper than starting the breeding line again.

Practical tips

  • Build it at Technology 38 — 30 Refined Ingot, 20 High Quality Cloth, 10 Corrosive Solvent.
  • Staff it with a Handiwork Pal. Ribbuny is the game's top-rated crafter — an early, common Pal most players overlook.
  • The 10,000-gold tier is better value per gold than the 50,000 one — roughly half the effect for a fifth of the price.
  • Insomnia (10,000) is the best base passive here — a Pal that never stops working at night.
  • Musclehead is the exception at 50,000 — Attack +30%, and its work-speed penalty is free on a fighter.
  • Implants come from the Arena and Bounty merchants, and the two carry different lists.
  • Pal Reverser fixes a bred Pal of the wrong gender — cheaper than rebreeding.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Everything here is bought with gold and tokens, which means the bottleneck is bounty runs and Arena clears rather than luck — and both are repeatable content that a group clears far faster than a solo player. A dedicated Palworld 1.0 server keeps bounty targets and the Arena available whenever your group is, with full crossplay so nobody is locked out by platform. One-click backups and automatic updates protect a Pal you have spent 50,000 gold a slot perfecting.

Conclusion

The Pal Surgery Table unlocks at Technology 38 for 30 Refined Ingot, 20 High Quality Cloth and 10 Corrosive Solvent, needs a Handiwork Pal, and does two things that used to be down to luck. It changes a Pal's gender with a Pal Reverser, and it implants passive skills for gold across 54 procedures — a 10,000-gold tier (Brave, Insomnia, Positive Thinker, Serious) and a 50,000-gold tier (Musclehead, Artisan, Ferocious, Burly Body). The budget tier is the better value per gold; Musclehead at Attack +30% is the one worth paying up for, and Insomnia is the best base-throughput passive on the list. Implants are bought from the Arena and Bounty merchants, which turns both into a route to Pal power rather than just currency.
