Polymer, Plasteel & Pal Metal Ingot in Palworld 1.0 (Recipes & What They're For)

There is a tier of Palworld materials that sits above ingots and below the ancient relics — the three that gate your best furnaces, your endgame beds, your missile launchers and your oil extractors. Polymer, Plasteel and Pal Metal Ingot are all made from oil and metal, all sound interchangeable, and are in fact produced at different stations from different inputs with wildly different work costs. Getting them confused wastes a lot of time. Here is each one, and the order to unlock them in.

The work costs are the story. Polymer is 100; Plasteel is 2,000 — twenty times as much for a single unit. If a build is asking for both, the Plasteel is what will actually hold you up.
Their in-game descriptions separate them cleanly:
- Polymer — "Polymer made from refined oil. Required for producing various advanced items such as firearms."
- Plasteel — "Plasteel created by processing Crude Oil and metal."
- Pal Metal Ingot — "A material required to create Pal Metal weapons and armor. Strengthened by creating an alloy incorporating Paldium."
Polymer: The Cheap One

Polymer unlocks earliest at Technology 33 and is by far the least painful of the three: 2 High Quality Pal Oil and 1 Sulfur for 100 work, at the Production Assembly Line (or Production Assembly Line II, Advanced Workshop, or Ancient Workbench).
At a gold value of 1,080 and weight 0.5, it is also light enough to carry in quantity — unlike Nails at weight 2.

The Sulfur is the catch. Polymer competes directly with Gunpowder for your sulfur supply — and gunpowder demand at the top of the ammunition tree is severe, with Heavy Assault Rifle Ammo needing 10 Gunpowder per round. If you are running ballistic weapons and building polymer-heavy structures, plan a Sulfur Mine (Technology 46) or a Pierdon farm, which drops 4 – 5 Sulfur at a 100% rate.
Pal Metal Ingot: The Alloy

Pal Metal Ingot is 4 Ore, 1 Pure Quartz and 2 Paldium Fragment for 500 work, produced at the Electric Furnace, Gigantic Furnace or Ancient Furnace.
The Pure Quartz in that recipe is what really gates it. Pure Quartz has its own dedicated structure — the Pure Quartz Quarry at Technology 52 — and like every late mine it costs 100 units of the material it produces to build, so you hand-mine your first hundred before automation takes over.

These costs were cut in v1.0.3 (12 August 2026). The patch "reduced the building costs of the Crude Oil Extractor, High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor, and Large Power Generator" and "increased the crude oil production speed" of both extractors. The Crude Oil Extractor in particular went from 250 Pal Metal Ingot and 50 Circuit Board to 125 and 25 — exactly half. If you are reading an older guide quoting 250, that number is out of date.
Note the circularity anyway. The Crude Oil Extractor still costs 125 Pal Metal Ingot — and Crude Oil is what Plasteel is made from. You cannot automate oil until you have already invested in the alloy, which keeps these three structures the largest Pal Metal sinks in the game at 125 – 150 units each.

Plasteel: The Expensive One

Plasteel is Technology 50, needs 2 Crude Oil and 5 Ore, and costs 2,000 work for one unit at an Electric Furnace or better.

The Gigantic Furnace at 150 Plasteel is 300,000 work of Plasteel alone, before its 100 Polymer, 200 Flame Organ and 12 Computer. This is not a structure you build on a whim — it is a project, and it is the clearest argument in the game for a base that keeps producing while you are not playing.
Crude Oil is the shared input between Plasteel and several ammunition types, and it is why the Crude Oil Extractor chain matters so much at this tier. Everything above Technology 50 eventually routes through oil.
Practical tips
- Polymer is the cheap one — Technology 33, 100 work. Build it early and often.
- Plasteel costs 2,000 work per unit. Twenty Polymers per Plasteel, in labour terms.
- Polymer and Gunpowder compete for Sulfur. Secure a supply before committing to both.
- Pal Metal Ingot needs Pure Quartz, which needs the Technology 52 quarry — and that quarry costs 100 Pure Quartz to build.
- The Crude Oil Extractor costs 125 Pal Metal Ingot since v1.0.3 — halved from 250. Older guides still quote the old figure.
- Oil is what Plasteel needs, and the extractor needs the alloy. Budget for the loop.
- The Gigantic Furnace wants 150 Plasteel. Treat it as a long-term project.
