Megingjord and Wishbone: Two Valheim Accessories That Change How You Play

Valheim has two accessories that alter the game rather than adjusting a number. The Megingjord grants +150 carry weight, which is what makes ore hauling survivable in a game where ore cannot be teleported. The Wishbone finds buried things, pinging at roughly 20 metres. Both occupy the same utility slot — so at any moment you are choosing between hauling and finding.
On sourcing. Iron Gate do not publish system documentation. The figures below come from the community wikis and can change with any patch.
The Two Items

| Megingjord | Wishbone | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Purchased from Haldor | Dropped by Bonemass |
| Effect | +150.0 carry weight | Finds secrets |
| Weight | — | 0.1 |
| Durability | — | N/A |
The Wishbone's description is one of Iron Gate's better ones: "This ancient bone remembers the location of many forgotten things."
They arrive at similar points in a run. Bonemass is the third boss, and Haldor is findable from early on — so a player clearing the Swamp will typically have access to both around the same time.
And they compete for one slot, which is the whole design tension: the belt is for coming home loaded, the bone is for finding what to load.
The Wishbone weighs 0.1 and has no durability, so carrying both and swapping is genuinely practical — the cost is the slot, not the inventory.
Megingjord Is a Logistics Item

+150 carry weight is the largest single increase available, and it exists because of one rule: as our portals guide covers, every ore and metal in the game is blocked from teleportation.
Which means metal moves on your back or on a boat, and every extra kilogram you can carry is one less trip. The Megingjord is not a convenience item; it is a transport upgrade.
It also keeps you out of the worst state in the game. Encumbered — exceeding your carry capacity — disables running, jumping, blocking, dodging and stamina recovery, and reduces walking speed to a crouch. As our status effects guide puts it, that is not a penalty, it is a paralysis.
Interestingly, the Corpse run effect also gives +150 carry weight, alongside 0.25× physical damage taken and +5 health per second for 50 seconds. So the game hands you a temporary Megingjord exactly when you are running back to your grave — which is when you most need to pick everything up at once.
Buy it first among Haldor's stock. Against a 350-coin fishing rod and a 1,500-coin egg, the belt is the purchase that changes how every subsequent expedition runs.
Wishbone Has a Range

The Wishbone is more precise than its description suggests. While equipped, green particles appear around you beginning approximately 20 metres from a secret, accompanied by a ding sound — and the effect pulses rapidly when you are directly above the buried thing.
So it is a proximity detector with two signals, visual and audio, and a usable working radius. Twenty metres is enough to sweep an area on foot without walking a perfect grid.
What it finds is "secrets" — buried objects, which in practice is what you are searching for at the point in the game where Bonemass drops it. Since Bonemass gates the Mountain tier, the Wishbone arrives exactly when buried Silver deposits become the thing you need.
That timing is not a coincidence. The third boss hands you a detector immediately before the biome whose key resource is underground — the Wishbone is the intended answer to Silver, not an optional convenience.
And the sound cue means you can sweep without watching the ground. Run a hillside listening for the ding rather than staring at particles, which is faster and lets you watch for wolves at the same time.
The obvious workflow is: Wishbone out on the Mountain, Megingjord on for the trip home. Find with one, haul with the other, and swap at the deposit — the Wishbone's 0.1 weight makes carrying both free.
Practical tips
- Megingjord: +150 carry weight, bought from Haldor.
- Wishbone: finds secrets, dropped by Bonemass. Weight 0.1, no durability.
- They share one utility slot — carry both, swap as needed.
- The Wishbone pings from about 20 metres, with green particles and a ding.
- It pulses rapidly directly above the buried object.
- It arrives from Bonemass just as buried Silver becomes relevant.
- Encumbered disables running, jumping, blocking, dodging and stamina regen.
- Corpse run also grants +150 carry weight for 50 seconds after a death.
Running your own Valheim server
A Silver run is a Wishbone sweep, a mining session and a boat trip home — a project across sessions rather than an evening. A gamever Valheim server keeps that world persistent for up to 10 players, with one-click backups.
Conclusion
Valheim's two game-changing accessories share a slot and solve opposite problems. The Megingjord, bought from Haldor, grants +150 carry weight — the largest single increase available, and necessary because every ore and metal is blocked from teleportation, so metal moves on your back or by boat. It also keeps you out of Encumbered, which disables running, jumping, blocking, dodging and stamina regeneration entirely. The Wishbone, dropped by Bonemass, finds secrets: green particles and a ding beginning at approximately 20 metres, pulsing rapidly when you stand directly above the buried object. Its timing is deliberate — the third boss hands it over immediately before the Mountain, whose key resource is buried Silver. At 0.1 weight and no durability, carrying both is free, so the practical loadout is Wishbone to find and Megingjord to haul, swapped at the deposit.
