How to get goat horn in Minecraft

Figure 1 Goat

The goat horn is a recent addition to Minecraft, making it one of the most unique items available in the game. Unlike other items, the goat horn serves a distinct purpose and offers an interesting gameplay mechanic. Introduced in the 1.19 Wild Update alongside the recovery compass and other items, goat horns allow players to signal other players up to 256 blocks away by blowing into them. With eight different goat horns to collect, each with a unique tone, they add a new level of communication and interaction in Minecraft. Currently, in single-player modes, goat horns don't have a significant purpose, but future updates may change that.

In the past, goats were primarily useful for providing milk, but the addition of goat horns has made these mountain-dwelling creatures more valuable in the game. Acquiring goat horns is an unconventional process compared to obtaining loot from other mobs. Interestingly, players don't need to slay the goat to obtain a goat horn.

To get a goat horn, players need to put themselves in harm's way. Goats will square up every 30-300 seconds and attempt to ram a stationary creature located 4-16 blocks away from them. They will target creatures, armor stands, or any mob other than goats, and if they successfully land a blow, they will deal damage. However, they won't target players on Peaceful difficulty. If a player is targeted, they can avoid getting rammed by moving out of the way after the goat has lowered its head.

To obtain a goat horn, players must bait a goat into ramming them and then quickly maneuver out of harm's way to safety. If the goat collides with a solid block before coming to a stop, it will drop either one or two goat horns. Players should position themselves cleverly between a goat and a solid block, staying pressed up against the block, and then wait for the goat to attack.

Ensuring success in acquiring goat horns involves encasing oneself in a 9x9 room with a goat. This setup guarantees that players will always be at least four blocks away from the goat. Adding a ceiling is essential to prevent the goat's escape since they can jump up to ten blocks high. Players should remain pressed against the farthest wall from the goat, minimizing movement. It may take up to five minutes for the goat to become angry, but once it does, players can quickly evade its attack, causing it to crash into the wall. It's important to construct the walls using specific blocks, such as logs, stone, packed ice, copper ore, iron ore, or emerald ore. Logs are the most easily obtainable and therefore the recommended choice.

There are two types of goats in the game: regular goats and screaming goats. Regular goats can drop four out of the eight available goat horns, while screaming goats can drop the remaining four. Screaming goats have a 1/50 chance of spawning, and they look identical to regular goats but are more prone to screaming and ramming. If players can't find any naturally spawning screaming goats, they can use wheat to breed regular goats until they obtain a screamer.

Once players have a screaming goat, they can breed it with regular goats, increasing the chances of the offspring being a screamer. When a screaming goat breeds with a regular goat, there is a 50% chance that the baby goat will also be a screamer. If both parents are screamers, the baby is guaranteed to be one as well on Java Edition but has a 2% chance of not being a screamer on Bedrock Edition.

The available goat horns in Minecraft are as follows: Ponder, Sing, Seek, Feel, Admire (exclusive to screaming goats), Call (exclusive to screaming goats), Yearn (exclusive to screaming goats), and Dream (exclusive to screaming goats). In Bedrock Edition, "Dream" is instead called "Resist."

When a goat drops a single horn, its appearance is updated to have one less horn. Players can then farm the second horn using the same method, but the horn type will always be the same as the first one. Therefore, players looking to collect all the goat horns should not waste their time obtaining the goat's second horn.

To find goats in Minecraft, players need to explore cold-weather mountain biomes. These biomes include Jagged Peaks, Frozen Peaks, and Snowy Slopes. As mountain ranges are often expansive, players should have little to no trouble finding groups of two to three goats in any given cold mountain range. By seeking out a cold region of the Minecraft world and looking for mountains, players can easily locate goats and begin farming goat horns.

In conclusion, the addition of goat horns in Minecraft has brought a new level of excitement and interaction to the game. With their unique ability to signal other players from a distance, goat horns provide a distinct gameplay mechanic that enhances communication and coordination in Minecraft. While currently their purpose in single-player modes may be limited, future updates may expand their functionality and make them even more valuable.

Obtaining goat horns requires players to engage in a unique and unconventional process. By baiting goats into ramming them and quickly maneuvering out of harm's way, players can acquire these coveted items. Constructing a specialized room and carefully positioning oneself in relation to the goat increases the chances of success in obtaining goat horns.

There are two types of goats in the game, regular goats, and screaming goats, each with their own set of horn variations. Breeding regular goats with screaming goats increases the likelihood of obtaining screaming offspring, which can drop exclusive horn types. Players interested in collecting all the goat horns should focus on obtaining the first horn dropped by a goat, as subsequent horns will always be of the same type.

To find goats, players should explore cold-weather mountain biomes, such as Jagged Peaks, Frozen Peaks, and Snowy Slopes. These biomes are likely to harbor groups of goats, making it easier for players to begin farming goat horns.
