Every Utility Spell in Dragonwilds, and Which Skill Hides It

Fishing gives you a tornado that pulls five fish out of a node. Mining gives you an explosion that breaks four ore deposits at once. Cooking gives you a spell that refreshes every food buff you are carrying. Dragonwilds hides genuine utility magic inside its gathering and crafting skills, and because none of it appears on a spellbook you can browse, most players never learn what they already have. Here is the complete list, by skill.
On sourcing. The unlock levels below come from the community RuneScape: Dragonwilds wiki, and can change with any patch.
The Gathering Spells
| Skill | Level | Spell | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mining | 11 | Rocksplosion | Detonates ore deposits — four at once is an achievement |
| Mining | 24 | Summon Stone Spirits | Spirits that help gather |
| Woodcutting | 11 | Axtral Projection | A spectral axe that chops for you — three trees in one cast is an achievement |
| Woodcutting | 27 | Splinter | |
| Farming | 15 | Uproot | "A spectral surge" that instantly harvests every fully grown crop and wild plant in a radius |
| Farming | 28 | Humidify | A travelling rain cloud that waters every plot it passes with clean water |
| Farming | 74 | Rapid Growth | Advances a plant by one growth stage |
| Farming | 80 | Mucksplosion | A compost volcano that fertilises your plots |
| Fishing | 10 | Fishing Frenzy | Enchants a node so every catch yields an extra fish |
| Fishing | 30 | Infernal Rod | Enchants your rod with fire for 2 minutes — fish are caught already cooked |
| Fishing | 55 | Fishnado | A tornado that pulls up to 5 fish from a node at once |
Four of those change gathering from an action into an area effect, and they are the reason a levelled skiller is not merely faster but categorically different:
- Uproot at Farming 15 harvests a whole radius. Harvester at 36 widens it, and the achievement Gotta Patch 'Em All asks for 24 plots in a single cast — which tells you the ceiling.
- Rocksplosion at Mining 11 hits multiple deposits; It's all Mine! wants four.
- Axtral Projection at Woodcutting 11 wants three trees; its upgrade at 88 gives you three spectral axes.
- Fishnado at Fishing 55 pulls five fish in one go.
And the Infernal Rod is the quiet standout. Two minutes of fish arriving pre-cooked removes the entire campfire step from a fishing trip. It also stacks with Fishing Frenzy, since one enchants the rod and the other the node.
Two upgrades are worth noting because they are easy to miss: Troubled Waters at Fishing 43 makes Fishing Frenzy also cut a fish's maximum stamina by 15%, and Greater Fishnado at 60 reduces the cooldown.
The Crafting and Building Spells

| Skill | Level | Spell | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Artisan | 11 | Bark To Bones | Transmutes a tree into a stack of bones |
| Artisan | 20 | Superheat | Empowers fire-based stations to process faster for a while |
| Artisan | 27 | Magical Mending | Throw items down and repair them instantly |
| Cooking | 20 | Internal Alchemy | Refreshes any active food and drink buffs |
| Cooking | 28 | Bones to Peaches | Transmutes bones on the ground into peaches |
| Runecrafting | 19 | Summon Elemental Spirits | Wisps that guide you to nearby anima vents |
| Runecrafting | 27 | Runes To Rune Essence | Drop unwanted runes to recover 40% of their essence |
| Runecrafting | 42 | Fire Spirit | Conjures a light source |
| Runecrafting | 81 | Runes To Rune Essence Upgrade | The recovery rises to 60% |
| Construction | 11 | Eye of Oculus | The build camera |
| Construction | 20 | Summon Shelter | Conjures a tent |
Superheat deserves the correction it usually needs. In RuneScape the name means smelting ore without a furnace. In Dragonwilds it does not — it is "cast on fire-based stations to empower them and boost their processing speed for a while." It is a throughput multiplier on your furnace, kiln and blast furnace, which on a base doing bulk smelting is the biggest time saving in the Artisan tree.
Magical Mending is better than its description implies. It has "a wide area of effect and can affect multiple dropped gear pieces at the same time", restores up to 50% durability, and consumes no resources beyond the runes to cast it. The achievement Mend it like... asks for three items in one cast.
Internal Alchemy is the buff-economy spell. It refreshes food and drink buffs to a full timer, needs at least six seconds left on them, and takes four to five seconds to cast — so it is a between-fights tool. Crucially it does not affect potion buffs.
And Bark To Bones plus Bones to Peaches form a loop. Trees become bones at Artisan 11; bones become peaches at Cooking 28. In a game where trees regrow, that is a renewable food chain — inelegant, but it works.
Summon Shelter has one documented limitation worth remembering: you cannot cast it in The Bastion, so arrive at the Black Knight Titan already rested.
The Combat Spells Inside Combat Skills

| Skill | Level | Spell | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attack | 11 | Tempest Shield | An Air Magic shield that prevents all damage while blocking, bursting when it ends. Duration scales with Attack level |
| Attack | 20 | Enchant Weapon: Fire | +33% melee damage; crits inflict Burning |
| Attack | 30 | Enchant Weapon: Air | At least +15% attack speed |
| Magic | 11 | Surge | Three longer dodges at no stamina cost |
| Magic | 25 | Afterimage | Leaves an illusory decoy |
| Magic | 30 | Confuse | Lesser enemies cannot distinguish you |
| Magic | 44 | Greater Confuse | Works on a wider variety of creatures |
| Ranged | 12 | Snare | Roots enemies in an earth-magic trap |
| Ranged | 25 | Spectral Arrows | Arrows pierce multiple targets |
| Ranged | 40 | Venomous Trapper | Snares now release poison, which persists after the trap ends |
Note that four of these are the standard boss kit. Every boss guide on the wiki recommends the same set — Surge, Tempest Shield, Enchant Weapon: Air and Spectral Arrows — regardless of which boss. Tempest Shield is the closest thing to mandatory, since three of the four documented bosses have attacks a normal shield cannot block.
Confuse has a genuinely funny use. The achievement I'll Just Watch requires a confused enemy to defeat another enemy — so the spell does not merely break aggression, it can turn a camp on itself.
And four of these spells can be cast while walking, following the combat rework: Spectral Arrows, Tempest Shield, Surge and the Enchant Weapon spells. Everything else roots you, which is why Internal Alchemy's four-to-five second cast is dangerous mid-fight.
What This Means on a Server

Look at where the area-effect spells sit: 10, 11, 11, 12, 15, 19, 20, 20. Almost every skill's transformative utility arrives in the first twenty levels — long before the expensive part of the experience curve, where level 93 costs 342,568 and 99 costs 1,000,000.
That produces a clear plan for a group. Take every skill to roughly 20 before taking any skill to 90. A player with Rocksplosion, Axtral Projection, Uproot, Fishing Frenzy, Superheat, Internal Alchemy and Eye of Oculus — none of which needs a level above 20 — gathers, crafts and builds at a completely different rate to a specialist with one skill at 80 and the rest at 5.
Three spells specifically pay the group rather than the caster:
| Spell | Why it is a group asset |
|---|---|
| Internal Alchemy (Cooking 20) | Keeps everyone's food and drink buffs topped up between fights |
| Magical Mending (Artisan 27) | Area of effect — repairs several players' dropped gear at once, for runes only |
| Superheat (Artisan 20) | Speeds up the shared furnace, kiln and blast furnace |
And one is a logistics spell disguised as a convenience. Summon Elemental Spirits at Runecrafting 19 points you at nearby anima vents, which are the 1:10 rune source — and its upgrade, Greater Elemental Spirits at 64, also flags which vents are Concentrated. On a server where Runecrafting levels more slowly the more players are present, finding the good vents matters more, not less.
Practical tips
- Almost every skill's key utility spell unlocks below level 20.
- Rocksplosion (Mining 11) and Axtral Projection (Woodcutting 11) turn gathering into an area effect.
- Uproot (Farming 15) clears a whole radius; Harvester at 36 widens it.
- Fishnado (Fishing 55) pulls five fish; Infernal Rod (30) catches them pre-cooked.
- Superheat is not smelting — it speeds up fire-based stations.
- Magical Mending is AoE, restores up to 50% durability, and costs only runes.
- Internal Alchemy refreshes food and drink, never potions.
- Tempest Shield (Attack 11) is effectively mandatory for bosses.
- Only Spectral Arrows, Tempest Shield, Surge and Enchant Weapon can be cast while moving.
Running your own RuneScape: Dragonwilds server
Spreading nine skills to level 20 across six players is a division of labour, and division of labour only works when everyone returns to the same base and the same chests. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall available around the clock for up to six players, updates automatically so client and server versions never drift, and takes one-click backups before disruptive changes.
Conclusion
Dragonwilds hides real utility magic inside skills most players treat as chores. Mining's Rocksplosion at 11 and Woodcutting's Axtral Projection at 11 turn gathering into area effects; Farming's Uproot at 15 harvests a radius and Humidify at 28 waters it; Fishing's Fishing Frenzy at 10 doubles catches, its Infernal Rod at 30 delivers fish already cooked, and Fishnado at 55 pulls five at a time. On the crafting side, Artisan's Superheat at 20 accelerates fire-based stations — it does not smelt ore, whatever the RuneScape name suggests — while Magical Mending at 27 repairs several dropped items at once for the cost of runes alone, and Cooking's Internal Alchemy at 20 refreshes every food and drink buff the group is carrying. Combat contributes Tempest Shield at Attack 11, effectively mandatory against bosses, Surge at Magic 11, and Spectral Arrows at Ranged 25. The pattern worth acting on is where these sit: almost all of the transformative ones unlock below level 20, far below the point where the experience curve turns punishing — so take every skill to twenty before taking any skill to ninety.
