Beating the Black Knight Titan in Dragonwilds: Water, Crush, and Never Fire

Card showing the Black Knight Titan's weaknesses and resistances in Dragonwilds.

The Black Knight Titan is immune to Burning, resistant to fire and resistant to slashing — and weak to water. That single line invalidates the loadout most players bring to a power level 6 boss: fire arrows do nothing, fire runes do nothing, and the Black Greataxe, the highest-damage weapon of its tier, is a bad choice because it slashes. Bring a mace, bring water runes, and bring Tempest Shield, because a third of the Titan's moveset cannot be blocked without it.

Before You Walk In

The Black Knight Titan is Dowdun Reach's power level 6 boss, fought in Black Knight's Fortress.

PropertyValue
Power level6
Weak toWater
Resistant toFire, slashing
Immune toBurning
RewardThe broken Titan's Wrath, which lets you craft the sword

Three preparations before entering the arena:

  1. Arrive well rested. You cannot cast Summon Shelter in The Bastion, so if your Rest is low you have to go home and come back — there is no fixing it on site.
  2. Unlock the lodestone to the Bastion, so you can travel to and from The Nexus without the overland trip.
  3. Bring sanguine urns for health capacity.

And know how to get a second attempt before you need one. After the kill, stay in the arena for exactly 55 seconds and a Titan Seal appears in the centre of the room, letting you re-summon and challenge the Titan again. You do not have to re-run the approach.

The Loadout

Card listing the recommended gear and consumables for the Black Knight Titan.

    By weapon type:

StyleTakeAvoid
MeleeMithril mace — crush, one-handed, leaves a shield hand free. Mithril warhammer for more damage at a slower rateThe Black Greataxe — higher damage, but the Titan resists slashing
RangedMithril crossbow — one-handed, so you can still hold a shield and parry between reloadsFire arrows
MagicMaple battlestaff — a 6.8× rune damage multiplier — with water runesFire runes

The shield to bring is the Dragoncurse Shield, whose parry sends a ghostly claw forward and damages enemies — turning the defensive move into damage in a fight where you will be blocking constantly.

    Ammunition, if you are shooting:

  • Enchanted Iron Bolts — a 15% chance of water magic damage, which is the Titan's weakness.
  • Enchanted Mithril Bolts — a 15% chance of a toxic burst.
  • Mithril Barbed Arrows for Bleed, or Poisoned Mithril Arrows.

The buff stack, all ten-minute effects:

BuffEffect
Whetstone+2 damage on any melee weapon
Lesser Attack PotionFocused Strikes
Magical Focus+15% staff damage from spell attacks
Lesser Magic Potion+25% critical hit chance with combat spells
Antifire PotionPrevents the Burning from the Titan's fire attacks

Food is where most attempts are won or lost, since healing potions did not survive the health rework and food is the recovery:

  • Stuffed Catfish restores 200 health per consumption.
  • Undead Delight restores 180 and grants Sea Life3 health per second for 1,200 seconds, i.e. twenty minutes.
  • Eggs Royale restores 120 and also grants Sea Life, if you would rather not grind for Undead Delight.

Note that infusions do not stack, so pick one — either a stamina reduction on your combat style or on dodging, or the Pumpkin Spice Infusion for the Soul Food perk, which can run alongside Sea Life.

On amulets, the standard pairing is the Amulet of Defence plus the offensive amulet for your style — Strength, Magic or Accuracy. The Unholy Symbol trades +15% damage of all types for −15 health and is the confident player's swap; the Ring of Life, which teleports you to your bed near death, is the cautious one.

Phase One

Card explaining the Black Knight Titan's phase one abilities in Dragonwilds.

The Titan rises in the centre of the room wielding Titan's Wrath, a massive greatsword, and closes to melee.

The melee combos, and which parts can be blocked:

AttackBlockable with a normal shield?
One swing, fast or slowYes — block, parry or dodge
Two swingsYes
One overhead swingNo — needs Tempest Shield, or dodge
Two overhead swingsNo
Three swings — right, left, then overheadFirst two yes, the third no — sidestep it
Stomp — an AoE the size of LeapNo — but easy to back out of

The faster swings are the ones that catch people, so time the parry rather than holding block.

Three abilities sit on top of the melee:

Leap — the Titan jumps across the room at a distant target, causing an unblockable AoE slam. It cannot be parried with a normal shield, but it can be blocked with Tempest Shield or dodged. It also works at close range and has a short cooldown.

Earthquake and Stone Edge share a starting pose and diverge on one detail. Both see the Titan grip the sword by the hilt with both hands, blade facing down. The tell is the legs:

TellAbilityWhat happens
Standing straight, both feet plantedEarthquakeA small AoE at the point of impact plus a larger one around it
Right knee bentStone EdgeThe same unblockable AoE, then a twist like a key in a lock that sends a rocky shockwave at its target — across the whole arena

Learn the knee. It is the difference between an attack you step out of and one that reaches you anywhere in the room.

Phase Two, and the Fire

Card explaining the Black Knight Titan's phase two fire abilities in Dragonwilds.

Phase 2 begins at around 60% health, when the Titan stops and enchants the sword with fire. From that point every melee attack applies Burning, and the three abilities get fiery versions:

Fiery Leap — the same move, now applying Burning. Still blockable with Tempest Shield or dodgeable.

Eruption — the Earthquake tell (standing straight, both feet planted), but the slam is followed by four rings of fire expanding outward. If cast in the centre of the room, the outer ring covers the entire arena. The rings are unblockable by a normal shield but can be taken on Tempest Shield.

Lava Edge — the Stone Edge tell (right knee bent), but the shockwave now leaves lava behind. This is the important one: even if you block the shockwave with Tempest Shield, the lava still applies Burning — so dodge to the side rather than blocking. Antifire Potion is the other half of the answer.

    And a fourth ability appears:

Firestorm — the Titan raises their left hand, summons a firestorm overhead and ignites the ground below, applying Burning to anyone in melee range for the duration. What looks like a lit black hole above them then fires multiple fiery darts, four times, across the arena. Most travel in random directions, but one will often track you.

The loop for the rest of the fight is simple to state and hard to do: maintain Surge and Tempest Shield, damage when you can, avoid when you cannot, and eat and drink when needed. Surge lets you dodge three times at greater distance at no stamina cost; Enchant Weapon: Air raises melee attack speed and damage; Spectral Arrows is worth maintaining across the whole fight for ranged players.

Note that gear advice throughout accounts for the Titan and their Thralls, so budget defence for adds rather than for a duel.

Practical tips

  • Weak to water. Resistant to fire and slashing. Immune to Burning.
  • Take a mace or warhammer, not a greataxe — crush over slash.
  • Water runes and Enchanted Iron Bolts hit the weakness.
  • Tempest Shield is mandatory — overheads, Leap and the AoEs are unblockable without it.
  • Both feet planted = Earthquake. Right knee bent = Stone Edge, which crosses the arena.
  • Phase 2 starts at ~60% health, and every melee attack then Burns.
  • Dodge Lava Edge sideways — Tempest Shield stops the shockwave, not the lava.
  • Arrive rested — you cannot cast Summon Shelter in The Bastion.
  • Wait 55 seconds in the arena after the kill for the Titan Seal and a rematch.

Running your own RuneScape: Dragonwilds server

A power level 6 boss takes several attempts and a group that can all be online for them — which is exactly what a world that only exists while one person hosts cannot provide. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall available around the clock for up to six players, updates automatically so client and server versions never drift, and takes one-click backups before disruptive changes.

Conclusion

The Black Knight Titan is Dowdun Reach's power level 6 boss, and the fight is decided by damage type before it starts: weak to water, resistant to fire and slashing, and immune to Burning — so bring a mithril mace or warhammer rather than the Black Greataxe, and water runes and Enchanted Iron Bolts rather than anything fiery. Tempest Shield is not optional, because overhead swings, Leap, Earthquake and Stone Edge all ignore a normal shield. Learn the two sword-planting tells — feet planted means Earthquake, a bent right knee means Stone Edge and a shockwave that crosses the whole arena. At around 60% health the Titan enchants the sword with fire, every melee attack begins applying Burning, and Lava Edge must be dodged sideways because Tempest Shield stops the shockwave but not the lava it leaves. Arrive restedSummon Shelter does not work in The Bastion — and after the kill wait 55 seconds in the arena for the Titan Seal, which lets you fight again without re-running the approach.
