Crime & Wanted Level in Palworld: What Triggers It & How to Clear It

Card listing the three crimes in Palworld: assault, trespassing and poaching.

Palworld has a police force, and most players meet it by accident — one stray shot at a villager, or one Pal caught inside a Wildlife Sanctuary, and suddenly PIDF officers are spawning on top of you and will not stop. The system is simple once you know it, and it has one mechanic almost nobody exploits: crimes only count if somebody sees you. Here is the full picture.

The Three Crimes

CrimeWhat triggers it
AssaultAttacking any non-hostile NPC — including throwing a Pal Sphere at a peaceful human, and capturing Pals that are working at settlements
TrespassingEntering a Wildlife Sanctuary — a level 1 charge
PoachingCapturing Pals inside a Wildlife Sanctuary — a level 1 charge

One crucial exception: damage dealt by your Pals does not count. Only what you do personally generates a charge. That is a genuinely useful loophole — your Pal can fight something that would make you a criminal.

Note that sphere throws count as attacks. Trying to capture a merchant or an islander is assault, exactly as if you had shot them.

The Witness Rule

Card explaining that crimes only register if witnessed by a non-enemy NPC.

This is the mechanic worth knowing: crimes only register if the act is witnessed by a non-enemy NPC — an islander, a PIDF officer, or any other neutral character.

Unwitnessed actions generate no charges at all.

    Practically, that means:

  • Check your surroundings before doing anything questionable. An empty stretch of coast is legally very different from a settlement square.
  • Wildlife Sanctuaries are the awkward case, because they are patrolled by Level 80 Drones. Those drones are the reason a sanctuary run raises your wanted level even when nobody else is around — so fly in, land away from patrols, take one Pal and leave.
  • Enemy camps are legally free, because the occupants are hostile. Raiding a Rayne Syndicate desert camp or a Free Pal Alliance forest camp generates no charges no matter how thoroughly you clear it.

What Comes After You

Card explaining that PIDF officers scale with crime severity and respawn if you run.

PIDF officers pursue you, and two things scale:

  • Officer level scales with the severity of your crimes.
  • Officer quantity scales with the number of charges you have accumulated.

So a single trespassing charge brings a manageable response; a string of assaults brings something considerably worse.

The pursuit mechanic is the part that catches people out: if you move far enough away from the officers chasing you, they despawn — and a new set spawns next to you. Running does not escape the system, it just resets which officers are chasing you.

Since these are human enemies with firearms, the same counters that work at enemy camps apply here:

  • Aegidron — its Indestructible Fortress partner skill gives the party 60% less explosive damage and immunity to Stun. No accessory provides Stun immunity.
  • Advanced Shield (Technology Level 60) — 1,800 self-repairing shield HP, effectively a second health bar.
  • Lyleen — its partner skill restores 80~90% of the Health of you and your entire party on activation.

Five Ways to Clear Wanted Status

Card listing the five documented methods for clearing wanted status in Palworld.

MethodNotes
Wait for the charge timer to expireShown visually as a burning indicator. The free option
Fly extremely high on a flying mountThe fastest active method
Evade officers until charges disappearWorks, but they respawn next to you — expect a long chase
Save and reloadSingleplayer only
Die and respawnOr get downed, in multiplayer

Flying high is the practical answer. Palworld 1.0 gave you plenty of options: Eidrolon and Eidrolon Ignis (Dragon fliers with party speed boosts), Shaolong, Roujay, Beakon Cryst, Ragnahawk, Suzaku, Astegon and Quivern are all flying mounts. Get airborne and climb.

Note the multiplayer caveat. Save-and-reload is singleplayer only, which matters if you play on a dedicated server — there, your realistic options are waiting it out, flying high, or getting downed. Plan accordingly before you commit a crime you cannot easily undo.

Staying Clean

Three habits keep the wanted meter empty:

  1. Let your Pals do the fighting near settlements. Their damage is not a crime.
  2. Check for witnesses before capturing anything questionable. No witness, no charge.
  3. Do your capturing where it is legal — enemy camps, bounty targets and hostile Syndicate members are all free game. Bounties are the structured version, and they pay: 1 Successful Bounty Token converts to 2,000 Gold Coins.

Practical tips

  • Your Pals' damage never counts as a crime. Let them handle anything near a settlement.
  • No witness, no charge. Check who is watching before you act.
  • Running does not work — officers despawn and a new set appears beside you.
  • Flying very high is the fastest way to clear charges, and 1.0 gave you nine flying mounts.
  • Save-and-reload is singleplayer only. On a server, wait it out or fly.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

On a dedicated server the save-and-reload escape does not exist, which makes the crime system meaningfully stricter — and makes the group content where capturing is legal more appealing. A gamever Palworld 1.0 server keeps enemy camps, bounty targets and sanctuaries live around the clock, supports full crossplay so a squad can raid together, and protects your world with one-click backups and automatic updates if a run goes badly wrong.

Conclusion

Palworld's crime system has three offences — Assault on non-hostile NPCs (sphere throws included), Trespassing in a Wildlife Sanctuary and Poaching inside one — and damage dealt by your Pals never counts. The mechanic worth remembering is the witness rule: charges only register if a non-enemy NPC sees you, so unwitnessed acts are free. Once wanted, PIDF officers scale with severity and charge count, and running does not help because a fresh set spawns beside you. Clear it by waiting out the timer, flying extremely high, evading, dying — or, in singleplayer only, reloading. Best of all, do your capturing at enemy camps and on bounties, where it is legal and profitable.
