Best Mounts in Palworld 1.0: Flying, Ground & Buff Picks

Palworld 1.0 added a Sky Islands region, a World Tree that towers over the map, and a pile of new rideable Pals to get you around all of it. But a mount in 1.0 is no longer just transport — most of the new ones carry a partner skill that buffs your whole party while you are saddled, and a few of those buffs are strong enough to decide which mount you bring to a boss fight. This guide covers the best mounts among the Pals added in 1.0, sorted by what you actually need them for.

What Makes a Good Mount in 1.0

Three things, in this order:

  1. Where it can go. A flier trivialises the Sky Islands and the vertical World Tree climb; a ground mount does not.
  2. What it does for the party. Nearly every new rideable Pal has a partner skill that applies while it is with you. Some are minor. A few — Aegidron's Stun immunity, Tetroise Primo's durability bonus — change how a fight or an expedition goes.
  3. Whether it earns its slot off the saddle. Party slots are limited. A mount that is also a strong attacker or base worker costs you nothing to carry.

Best Flying Mounts

Mount Element Partner skill
Shaolong Dragon / Water Azure Sovereign — flying mount; +4% Attack per other Dragon Pal in your party
Eidrolon Dragon / Dark Liberated Pterosaur — flying mount; +2% Attack and Movement Speed per other Dragon or Dark Pal
Eidrolon Ignis Dragon / Fire Resentful Pterosaur — flying mount plus a party Attack and speed boost
Roujay Dark Dark-Nester — flying mount; +50% damage to Blind-afflicted enemies while in party
Beakon Cryst Ice Coldsnap — Ice flying mount; boosts Attack and Movement Speed
Panthalus Water Resonant Guardian — rideable flying mount; one per base, patrols and bombards intruders

Shaolong is the best overall flier in 1.0. It combines the update's joint-highest Attack (910 – 1,153 at Level 80) with a flying saddle and a party buff that scales with your Dragon count. Fill the rest of the party with Dragons and that +4% each stacks into a meaningful team-wide damage increase you get for free while travelling.

Eidrolon is the value pick. Its +2% Attack and Movement Speed per Dragon or Dark Pal covers a much wider pool of party members than Shaolong's Dragon-only condition, and the movement speed helps every member of the squad, not just your damage.

Panthalus is the odd one out. It flies and it is by far the toughest Pal in the update (up to 10,260 HP and 1,610 Defense at Level 80), but its partner skill is base-facing: one Panthalus per base patrols the skies and bombards intruders. Ride it if you like, but its real job is raid defence.

Best Ground Mounts

Mount Element Partner skill
Aegidron Dragon / Ground Indestructible Fortress — party takes 60% less explosive damage and is immune to Stun
Moldron Fire / Ground Magma Overload — +4–8% Attack per additional Fire or Ground Pal in the party
Moldron Cryst Ice / Ground Ice Overload — +25–40% Ice damage to enemy weak points for you and your Pals
Bulldosu Ground Yokozuna's Presence — party takes 15% less Electric damage, immune to Electrify
Univolt Cryst Ice Frigid Deity — changes your attack type to Ice and boosts Attack 5–20% while mounted
Dualith Ground / Grass Forest Laser — fires a powerful Grass laser from its right hand
Tetroise Ground Masonry Archelon — +1 Mining Work Suitability to all other Base Pals
Tetroise Primo Neutral Stone-Chaser Archelon — +80–100% durability on all weapons and armor
Rayhound Cryst Ice Snow Shepherd — rideable with double jump; +15–30% Defense to Ice Pals
Celesdir Noct Dark Blessing of Chaos — your active Pal loses Health for a +40–80% Attack increase
Starryon Primo Neutral Light Dancer — boosts Jump Power, scales Movement Speed with Neutral party members

The Buffs Worth Building Around

A few of these deserve calling out because they are effectively free power:

  • Aegidron — Indestructible Fortress. A 60% cut to explosive damage and blanket Stun immunity for your party. Tower bosses and raid attackers lean heavily on knockdowns and blasts, and immunity to being stunlocked is worth more than any raw stat. It is also the toughest Dragon in the update at 890 – 1,142 Defense, and a Mining Lv8 worker at home.
  • Tetroise Primo — Stone-Chaser Archelon. Raising weapon and armor durability by 80–100% roughly halves how often you go home to repair. On a long World Tree or Sky Islands expedition that is the difference between one trip and three.
  • Univolt Cryst — Frigid Deity. It converts your attack type to Ice and adds 5–20% Attack while mounted. Against Dragons — and 1.0 is full of them — that is a super-effective conversion on whatever weapon you happen to be holding.
  • Moldron Cryst — Ice Overload. +25–40% Ice damage to enemy weak points, for both you and your Pals. Pairs naturally with Univolt Cryst's type conversion.
  • Celesdir Noct — Blessing of Chaos. A +40–80% Attack increase on your active Pal, paid for with a steady health drain. Enormous burst if you can end the fight quickly; risky if you cannot.
  • Rayhound Cryst — Snow Shepherd. The only new mount with a double jump, which is genuinely useful for the Sky Islands' vertical platforming, plus +15–30% Defense to Ice Pals.

Which Mount to Bring

  • Crossing the map / Sky Islands: Eidrolon or Eidrolon Ignis. Flight plus a party speed boost.
  • Tower and Alpha boss fights: Aegidron. Stun immunity and explosive resistance keep the fight readable.
  • Vertical platforming: Rayhound Cryst for the double jump, or Starryon Primo for the Jump Power boost.
  • Mining runs: Tetroise. The +1 Mining to every Base Pal applies at home while you ride it out.
  • Fighting Dragons: Univolt Cryst. Ice conversion turns any weapon into a counter.
  • Long expeditions: Tetroise Primo. Double durability means you finish the trip.
  • Base defence: Panthalus. One per base, and nothing in 1.0 survives longer.
  • Pure damage: Shaolong, with a Dragon-stacked party behind it.

Practical tips

  • Party-scaling buffs like Shaolong's and Moldron's reward committing to a theme. A five-Dragon squad behind Shaolong beats five stronger but mismatched Pals.
  • Most of these partner skills specify "does not stack" — a second copy of the same Pal adds nothing, so spend the slot elsewhere.
  • Mounts still need saddles unlocked in the Technology tree, and the endgame Pals here sit behind high tech levels. Bank technology points before you go catching.
  • Several of these Pals double as elite base workers — Aegidron (Mining Lv8), Tetroise Primo (Mining Lv6), Dualith (five jobs). Riding them costs you nothing at home if you swap them back after the trip.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Half the fun of 1.0's fliers is exploring the Sky Islands and the World Tree with other people, and that works best when the world does not disappear the moment the host logs off. A dedicated Palworld 1.0 server keeps your map, your bases and your Pals live 24/7, lets friends on any platform join through full crossplay, and handles one-click backups and automatic updates so a patch never costs you the mounts you spent a weekend catching.

Conclusion

For general use, Eidrolon and Shaolong are the best fliers in Palworld 1.0 — fast, strong and carrying party buffs that scale with a themed squad. For fights, Aegidron's Stun immunity and explosive resistance make it the most reliable boss mount in the game right now. And for the unglamorous stuff, Tetroise Primo's durability bonus and Tetroise's base-wide Mining buff quietly save you more time than any raw speed stat.
