Alpha Pals in Palworld 1.0: The Named Bosses & What They Drop

The oversized Lamball called "Big Floof Lamball" standing in a marked circle on your map is an Alpha Pal — a larger, stronger, named version of an ordinary species. Palworld tracks 338 of them, they are the most approachable boss content in the game, and they are the single best routine source of Ancient Civilization Parts, which gate almost every late structure you will want to build. Here is what they are, what separates them from the other special tiers, and why they are worth a detour.
What Makes a Pal an Alpha
| Field | Details |
|---|---|
| Count | 338 Alpha variants |
| Appearance | Larger than the normal version, with a unique title |
| Location | Fixed, marked positions on the map |
| Difficulty | Harder than normal Pals, easier than Rampaging Pals |
| Key drop | Ancient Civilization Parts, 1 – 8 |
The naming is half the appeal. Alongside "Big Floof Lamball" the roster includes "Supreme Fluff Commander Kingpaca", "Pioneer of the Frozen Sea Penking" and "Enraptured by the Frozen Moonlight Loupmoon Cryst".
They are catchable. An Alpha is not a raid boss — you can throw a sphere at it like anything else, and a caught Alpha keeps its larger size. Since capture chance scales with the sphere tier and the target's remaining health, bring Ultra or Sol Spheres and wear the Ring of Mercy (Technology 18) so you do not kill something you meant to catch.
Alpha vs Rampaging vs Tower Boss

Palworld has three special encounter tiers and they are easy to confuse:
| Tier | Where | Difficulty | Signature drop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Pals | Fixed map locations, marked | Moderate | Ancient Civilization Parts (1 – 8) |
| Rampaging Pals | Random, anywhere — no fixed spots | Hardest | Predator Core (1 – 4, 100%) |
| Tower Bosses | Nine fixed towers | Scripted fights | Progression — the Key Spheres |
The practical distinction: Alphas are repeatable, findable and catchable. Rampaging Pals are the hard tier you take when you meet one, and the only source of Predator Cores. Tower bosses are progression rather than farming — the eight Key Spheres they yield are half the gate on the World Tree.
If a fight is difficult and you cannot find it on the map, it is Rampaging, not Alpha.
What Alphas Drop

| Drop | Notes |
|---|---|
| Ancient Civilization Parts | 1 – 8 per kill — the main reason to fight them |
| Precious Pelt, Precious Plume, Precious Claw | Alpha-specific materials |
| Bounty tokens | Occasional |
| Schematics | around 3% |
Ancient Civilization Parts are the headline, and their importance is easy to underrate until you look at what needs them:
| Structure | Parts |
|---|---|
| Egg Incubator (Tech 10) | 2 |
| Ore Mining Site (Tech 24) | 5 |
| Logging Site II (Tech 43) | 5 |
| Coal Mine (Tech 37) | 10 |
| Ore Mining Site II (Tech 39) | 10 |
| Sulfur Mine (Tech 46) | 10 |
| Pure Quartz Quarry (Tech 52) | 10 |
| Hexolite Quartz Mine (Tech 62) | 10 |
| Soralite Quarry (Tech 72) | 10 |
| Ancient Relic Recycler (Tech 74) | 30 |
| Gold Coin Assembly Line (Tech 73) | 20 |
Every automated mine in the game needs them, which puts Alpha Pals directly on the critical path to a self-running base. If your mining automation is stalled, this is usually why.
The schematic drop at ~3% is the same lottery salvaging offers. Schematics set the rarity of crafted gear, which is a permanent stat multiplier on that item — a Legendary roll on a weapon is worth considerably more than the 3% suggests.
Farming Alphas Efficiently

Because Alpha locations are fixed and marked, these are routable — unlike Rampaging Pals, you can plan a circuit and repeat it. That makes them the more reliable of the two tiers for a specific material need.
Bring the element counter. The type chain is Neutral → Dark → Dragon → Ice → Fire → Water → Electric → Ground → Grass → Fire, and a matchup is worth roughly 2× damage. A type converter mount does this without a loadout change: Ragnahawk (Fire), Azurobe (Water), Univolt Cryst (Ice), Chillet (Dragon), Prixter Lux or Beakon (Electric).
Bring the matching drop booster. Every element has one, granting +40~80% more items from defeated Pals of that type while in your party — Blazehowl for Grass, Cryolinx for Dragon, Penking for Fire, Faleris for Ice, and so on. On a drop that varies from 1 to 8 parts, that percentage is applied where it matters.
Combine the two and an Alpha circuit roughly doubles: the converter halves your clear time, the booster raises the yield per kill.
Catch rather than kill when it is a Pal you want. An Alpha keeps its size, and for species that are also Level 80 World Tree farm targets — Mammorest, Lyleen, Suzaku, Orserk, Azurobe, Jormuntide and the rest — remember that the Level 80 population drops 10 – 20 Radiant Gems at 100%, an order of magnitude above the low-level version. An Alpha is a good catch; the Level 80 spawn is the better farm.
Practical tips
- 338 Alpha variants, at fixed marked map locations — routable, unlike Rampaging Pals.
- Ancient Civilization Parts (1 – 8) are the main draw, and every automated mine needs them.
- Alphas are catchable and keep their larger size — wear the Ring of Mercy.
- Easier than Rampaging Pals, which are the random-spawn tier that drops Predator Cores.
- Bring a type converter and the matching drop booster — together they roughly double a circuit.
- Schematics drop at ~3% and permanently set crafted gear rarity.
Running your own Palworld 1.0 server
Alpha Pals respawn on a timer, which makes a repeatable circuit only as good as the hours the world is running. A dedicated Palworld 1.0 server keeps every Alpha location live around the clock, so a route you set up is available whenever you have twenty minutes rather than only while you are logged in. Full crossplay lets a group split the circuit across platforms, and one-click backups and automatic updates protect the Ancient Civilization Parts you have banked toward the next mine.
Conclusion
Alpha Pals are the 338 named, oversized boss versions of ordinary species — "Big Floof Lamball", "Supreme Fluff Commander Kingpaca" — found at fixed, marked map locations. They sit between normal Pals and the far harder Rampaging Pals, they are catchable, and they drop Ancient Civilization Parts at 1 – 8 per kill, alongside Precious Pelt, Plume and Claw, occasional bounty tokens and schematics at around 3%. Those parts matter more than they look: every automated mine and quarry in the game requires them, from the Ore Mining Site's 5 to the Ancient Relic Recycler's 30. Because their locations are fixed, Alphas are the routable farming tier — bring a type converter for the roughly 2× damage and the matching drop-rate booster for +40~80% yield, and a circuit roughly doubles in value.
