Valheim Item IDs and the Spawn Command (Admin Guide)

As a server admin you'll occasionally need to spawn items or creatures — to restore gear lost to a bug, run a community event, or test a build. Valheim does this with the spawn console command and an item's prefab ID. This guide shows how to use it on gamever, lists the most-needed IDs, and explains the catch in Valheim 1.0 before you start sprinkling resources around.
The catch: spawning needs cheats (and flags the world)
The spawn command only works when cheats/devcommands are enabled, and in Valheim 1.0 enabling cheats flags that world and disables progression-tied things like Haldor-independent play and some achievements. Read the 1.0 cheat flag and what it costs before using it on a legit progression server — you may want a separate creative world instead. Also note: admin powers and devcommands are not the same thing — see admin is not devcommands.
How to use the spawn command
As an admin with cheats enabled:
spawn <PrefabID> [amount] [level]
- PrefabID — the item/creature's internal name (see the tables below). Case-sensitive.
- amount — how many (default 1).
- level — for creatures, the star level (1 = base, 2 = one star, 3 = two stars).
Examples:
spawn Wood 50
spawn Iron 20
spawn Troll 1 2 # a one-star troll
You can run commands from the in-game console (as admin) or the panel Console tab.
Finding any ID: use autocomplete
The most reliable, always-current way to find an ID is in-game autocomplete: open the console, type spawn and press Tab to cycle prefab names. This lists every prefab your server actually has — including the newest Deep North / 1.0 content, which is the authoritative source for those IDs rather than any static list. (The command prefab and modded prefab browsers also help.)

(For the Surtling/Molten Core naming confusion, see two cores.)

| Creature | Prefab ID |
|---|---|
| Boar | Boar |
| Neck | Neck |
| Greydwarf | Greydwarf |

Spawn bosses away from your base — they're hostile immediately.
For Deep North and any post-1.0 content, use in-game
spawn+ Tab autocomplete to read the exact prefab IDs from your server rather than guessing — it's always accurate to your current build.
Additional Tips
- Cheats flag the world in 1.0 — use a creative world for spawning if you care about a legit run.
- IDs are case-sensitive —
Wood, notwood. - Tab-autocomplete is the source of truth — especially for new/Deep North items.
levelis star level — 2 and 3 spawn starred creatures.- Spawn bosses at a distance — they aggro instantly.
Conclusion
The spawn command plus a prefab ID is every Valheim admin's quick fix — restoring lost gear, stocking an event, or testing a build. Enable cheats (mindful of the 1.0 flag), use spawn <PrefabID> [amount] [level], and lean on in-game Tab autocomplete for exact IDs — the authoritative, always-current list for Deep North and everything else on your server.
