Training Manuals in Palworld 1.0: All Four Tiers, and the One Pal That Prints Them

A Palworld Pal being levelled at a base.

Training Manuals are the only item in Palworld that converts directly into Pal levels, and the four tiers are not spaced evenly. Training Manual (S) grants 200 EXP. Training Manual (XL) grants 100,000. That is a 500-fold spread across four items that share the same weight, the same stack size and the same inventory slot. Two of the four can be crafted, and the top tier drops at 100% from a single Pal once that Pal is level 20 or above.

The Four Tiers

TierRarityEXP grantedSells forWeightStack
Training Manual (S)Common20010 Gold0.19,999
Training Manual (M)Uncommon1,000100 Gold0.19,999
Training Manual (L)Rare10,000200 Gold0.19,999
Training Manual (XL)Epic100,000300 Gold0.19,999

The steps are x5, then x10, then x10. The sell prices move on a completely different curve — x10, then x2, then x1.5 — which produces the single most useful ratio in the table. An S manual is worth 20 EXP per Gold of sale value. An XL is worth 333 EXP per Gold. Selling XL manuals to a merchant is the worst trade in the game by a factor of sixteen.

All four weigh 0.1 and stack to 9,999, so a full stack of any tier costs you the same 999.9 carry weight. That matters only at the top: a full stack of XL manuals is just short of a billion EXP in a single slot.

Which Two You Can Craft

The two lower tiers are drop-only. The two upper tiers have recipes, and both are built at the Assembly Line II or the Advanced Workshop:

RecipeMaterialsWorkTime at Lv.1Time at Lv.10
Training Manual (L)Ancient Pal Manuscript 100, Fiber 101,00033m 20s19s
Training Manual (XL)Ancient Pal Manuscript 500, High Quality Cloth 4, Leather 55,0002h 46m 40s1m 32s

Both recipes run at the same throughput — 0.5 work per second at station level 1 — so the time difference is purely the work value. What is not the same is the conversion rate on your Ancient Pal Manuscripts, and this is the number worth writing down:

  • Training Manual (L): 10,000 EXP for 100 Manuscripts = 100 EXP per Manuscript
  • Training Manual (XL): 100,000 EXP for 500 Manuscripts = 200 EXP per Manuscript

The XL recipe is exactly twice as Manuscript-efficient as the L recipe. Since Ancient Pal Manuscripts are the genuinely scarce input here and Fiber, High Quality Cloth and Leather are not, there is no situation in which crafting L manuals is correct if you can craft XL instead. The only reason to build L is that you want the EXP now and have not banked 500 Manuscripts yet.

Where They Drop

Manuals come off human enemies, and the tier tracks enemy rank almost perfectly:

  • S — Syndicate Gunner, Syndicate Thug and Syndicate Hunter, all at 100%. Camp clears hand out 10–20 at a time at 100% from Syndicate Patrols, Free Pal Alliance Radicals, Eternal Pyre Missionaries, Moonflower Assassins, Roaming Feybreak Warriors and Herds of Starving Wild Pals.
  • M — Syndicate Grenadier, Syndicate Cleaner and Free Pal Alliance Believer at 50%, plus 10–20 at 100% from the corresponding higher-tier camps. The Grass02 dungeon map also drops 1–2 at 100%.
  • L — Syndicate Elite, Syndicate Crusher and Brothers of the Eternal Pyre Martyr at 30%, plus 1–2 at 100% from several named camp goal chests including EnemyCamp_DesertGoal02, EnemyCamp_ForestGoal_02 and EnemyCamp_Grass_Seabase_Goal.
  • XL — see below. It is essentially one source.

The Arrogant Pal Critic also pays out in manuals, in fixed quantities that scale with the Pal you show: Direhowl gives 3 S, Digtoise 4 S, Vanwyrm and Warsect 2 M each, Penking 3 M, Loupmoon 6 M, and Sootseer 8 M.

Mimog, and the 100% XL Drop

Mimog (#144) is the only practical source of Training Manual (XL), and its drop rate is a step function of its level:

Mimog levelXL drop chance
Base20%
Lv.1030%
Lv.20 and above100%

From level 20 onward every Mimog you defeat hands over an XL manual — 100,000 EXP — and Treasure Trove Mimog gives one at 100% at every level, including base. Mimog is a Neutral, XS-size Pal with rarity 7 and an AIResponse of Escape, so it will run rather than fight; its capture rate correction is 0.8, slightly against you. Its partner skill, Master of Unlocking, opens treasure chests without a key, which makes it doubly worth catching rather than only killing.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Manual farming is camp-clearing and Mimog-hunting, and both go far faster with a group splitting the map — which needs everyone in one persistent world rather than taking turns hosting. A gamever Palworld server keeps that world running with full crossplay, automatic updates and one-click backups.

Conclusion

Palworld's four Training Manual tiers cover a 500-fold EXP range — 200, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000 — on identical weight and stack size, so the top tier is always the one worth carrying. The two upper tiers are craftable at the Assembly Line II or Advanced Workshop, and the XL recipe converts Ancient Pal Manuscripts at exactly twice the rate of the L recipe (200 EXP per Manuscript against 100), which makes L a stopgap rather than a plan. Selling manuals is a trap at every tier and worst at the top, where an XL trades 333 EXP for 300 Gold. The drop tiers follow enemy rank: S at 100% from basic Syndicate troops, M at 50% from their mid ranks, L at 30% from Elites, Crushers and Martyrs, with camp goal chests paying out in bulk. And the entire XL supply comes from Mimog, which hands one over at 100% from level 20 upward and at 100% in Treasure Trove form at any level.
