The Vault Guardians in Dragonwilds: Eight Constructs, and Only Two Damage Types Work

The vaults are guarded by eight distinct constructs, added across three updates from launch to Eye on Ashenfall 0.10.1. They share two properties that decide every vault run: nearly all of them are immune to Poison, Bleed and Burning, and their weaknesses split cleanly into two camps — the old guard wants Crush, and the newer arrivals want Water.
All Eight

| Guardian | Power level | Health | Weak to | Resistant to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vault Guardian Sentinel | 2 – 4 | 325 / 450 | Crush | None |
| Vault Guardian Hulk | 2 – 5 | 390 / 490 / 690 | Crush | None |
| Vault Overlord | 2 and 5 | 1,300 / 2,875 | None at PL2, Crush at PL5 | None |
| Vault Incinerator | 3 | 2,112 | Water | Fire |
| Vault Corruptor | 4 | 2,925 | Water | Fire |
| Vault Pyroclast | 4 | 2,925 | Water | Fire |
| Vault Archon | 2 | 3,100 | — | — |
| Vault Striker | 5 | 3,738 | — | — |
The Vault Archon is the anomaly worth flagging: power level 2 with 3,100 health, which is more than the power-level-5 Overlord and roughly ten times a Sentinel at the same tier. It is the earliest genuinely long fight in the game, and its power level does not warn you.
The Two Weakness Camps
The eight split neatly by release date, and the split is a weapon decision:
The launch guardians want Crush. Sentinel, Hulk and Overlord all published on 15 April 2025 and all resist nothing at all — a clean fight where a mace simply does more. The Overlord is the exception within the exception: at power level 2 it has no weakness, and only at power level 5 does Crush start working.
The 0.10.1 guardians want Water. Incinerator, Corruptor, Pyroclast and Striker arrived on 15 January 2026, and the first three share an identical profile: weak to Water, resistant to Fire. They are fire constructs, and the counter is the obvious one.
That gives a practical two-item loadout for any vault: a Crush weapon and a Water spell. Between them they cover seven of the eight, and the eighth — the Archon — has no published weakness to exploit anyway.
The Immunity Nobody Plans For

Hulk, Sentinel, Overlord, Incinerator, Corruptor and Pyroclast are all immune to Poison, Bleed and Burning.
They are constructs, so this is thematically obvious in hindsight and entirely invisible in the moment. The practical cost is real:
- Weapon Poison does nothing in a vault. If you coated a weapon before going in, you wasted the coating.
- Bleed effects do nothing. Any build leaning on bleed application is losing a chunk of its output.
- Burning does nothing — and this stacks with the fire constructs' Fire resistance, so a fire build is losing twice against an Incinerator or a Pyroclast.
Against health pools of 2,000 to 3,700, damage-over-time would normally be where the fight is won. In the vaults it is where the fight is not fought at all.
The Overlord's Attack Pattern
The Vault Overlord publishes an unusually specific attack breakdown, and two of the three entries tell you exactly what to do:
| Attack | What it does | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Rapid spin | Closes the distance, designed to wear down stamina | Dodge — blocking rapidly drains your stamina reserves |
| Standard fist slam | Single-handed slam, easily blocked | Parry — it makes the Overlord collapse |
| Double-fisted slam | The heavier version | Avoid |
The spin is a stamina attack rather than a damage attack, which means the instinctive response — raise your shield — is the wrong one. It is designed to drain you through your block. Dodge it instead and keep the stamina for the slams, where parrying the single-handed version drops the Overlord outright.
What the Vaults Pay

Every guardian drops Stone at 100%, and the amount is a rough proxy for its tier — 5 from a Hulk or Archon, 15 from a Sentinel or Overlord, 30 from the 0.10.1 constructs. Beyond that they roll from a shared table:
| Drop | Rate |
|---|---|
| Rune Essence | 75/100, and a second roll at 46/100 |
| Stone (again) | 25/100 |
| Vault Shard | Roll |
Rune Essence at 75/100 with a second roll at 46/100 is the reason to clear vaults rather than skip them — that is well over one essence per guardian on average, from a source that does not require Runecrafting to gather. Vault Shards are the gate on Dragonkin recipes, which is what actually brings people back.

Conclusion
Dragonwilds' eight Vault Guardians run from 325 health on a Sentinel to 3,738 on a Striker, and the Vault Archon breaks the pattern with 3,100 health at power level 2 — more than the power-level-5 Overlord, with no warning from its tier. Their weaknesses split by release: the launch constructs — Sentinel, Hulk and Overlord — are weak to Crush and resist nothing, while the 0.10.1 arrivals — Incinerator, Corruptor and Pyroclast — are weak to Water and resist Fire, so a mace and a Water spell cover seven of the eight. The property that quietly costs the most is that almost all of them are immune to Poison, Bleed and Burning, which makes weapon poison, bleed builds and fire damage-over-time inert against health pools where damage-over-time would otherwise decide the fight — and against the fire constructs a fire build loses twice. The Overlord's rapid spin is a stamina attack, not a damage one, so dodge it rather than block it, and parry the single-handed fist slam to make it collapse. Every guardian pays Stone at 100%, plus Rune Essence at 75/100 with a second roll at 46/100 and the Vault Shards that gate Dragonkin recipes.
