The Four Building Styles in Dragonwilds: Cabin, Cottage, Castle and Kharidian

A player-built base in Ashenfall.

Dragonwilds' Build Menu is not one library of parts with skins applied. It is four parallel setsCabin, Cottage, Castle and Kharidian — each with its own walls, flooring, roofing, and beams and pillars. Choosing a style is a decision you make once per structure, because a Castle wall and a Cabin wall are separate build entries, not the same piece in a different colour.

What a Style Actually Contains

Card showing the four Dragonwilds building styles and the four part families each one has.

Every style carries the same four part families:

Part familyStyles available
FlooringCabin, Cottage, Castle, Kharidian
WallsCabin, Cottage, Castle, Kharidian
RoofingCabin, Cottage, Thatched Cottage, Castle, Kharidian
Beams & PillarsCabin, Cottage, Castle, Baroque Castle, Kharidian

Two families carry an extra variant that the others do not. Roofing splits Cottage into plain and Thatched, each with its own triangular sub-range, and Beams & Pillars adds a Baroque Castle set on top of the ordinary Castle one. So the practical count is five roof families and five beam families against four wall and floor families.

There is also a separate Walls: Door & Windows category that sits outside the per-style lists, which is where openings live rather than being duplicated across every style.

The Wall Vocabulary

Each style publishes roughly the same set of wall shapes, and knowing the vocabulary saves a lot of scrolling. The Cabin set is representative:

PiecePurpose
WallFull height
Medium WallMid height
Small WallShort — gap filling
Half WallWaist height
Half Wall With Door FrameOpening at half height
Half Wall With Window FrameWindow at half height
Wall With Door FrameFull-height opening
Medium 30° / 45° Roof Support WallAngled fillers under a pitched roof
Medium 30° / 45° Inverted Roof Support WallThe mirrored version

The roof support walls are the pieces people miss, and they are why a house looks unfinished under a pitched roof. A 30° roof needs a 30° support wall to close the triangle beneath it, and the inverted version handles the opposite slope. Cabin and Cottage both publish 30° and 45° variants; Cottage additionally goes to 60°, giving it the steepest closed pitch of the wood styles.

The Castle set replaces the angled supports with curved onesMedium 30° Curved Roof Support Wall and its inverted twin — and adds a Wall With Double Door Frame that the other styles do not have. That double door is the single clearest reason to build a hall in Castle rather than Cottage.

Choosing a Style

Card comparing when to use each Dragonwilds building style.

  • Cabin is the plain wood set — the widest angle coverage at 30° and 45°, and the fastest to read at a glance. It is the default for outposts and anything you expect to rebuild.
  • Cottage is the same idea with more roof options: plain and thatched, each with its own triangular range, plus 60° support walls for a steeper pitch. It is the style to pick when the roof is the visible part of the build.
  • Castle is stone, with curved roof supports, Baroque beams as a second pillar set, and the double door frame. It is the only style that reads as a public building rather than a house.
  • Kharidian is the desert set, matching the Umbral Sands architecture. It carries flooring, walls, roofing and beams like the others.

The one rule that matters is not to mix styles inside a single silhouette. Because each style is a separate set of entries rather than a material swap, a Cottage wall against a Castle wall does not align the way two walls of the same style do. Mixing across separate structures in one settlement is fine and often looks deliberate; mixing inside one wall run does not.

The Non-Style Categories

Card listing the Build Menu categories that sit outside the four styles.

Above the four styles sit categories that apply to any of them:

Home — the three things you build first (Bed Roll, Campfire, Crafting Table) plus Fast travel, which contains exactly one entry: the Lodestone.

Crafting — the working stations, grouped as Tools, Weapons & Armour, Food & Potions, Material Processing, Farming, Construction, and a standalone Postbox.

Furniture — five groups: Lighting, Sleep (Bed, Bed Roll, Moon Garou Bed), Storage, Table & Chairs, and Objects. That last one is small but functional: Training Dummy, Archery Target and Build Protection Totem — the totem being the piece that matters on a shared server.

Storage deserves a mention because it is longer than people expect: Crate, Ash Chest, Oak Chest, Iron Chest, Bank Chest, Lumber Storage, Ore & Stone Storage, Wooden Barrel, Fishing Barrel, Tackle Box, Armour Mannequin, Weapon Rack, Cape Rack and Cape Hook. Several of those are display pieces that also hold items, so a well-built armoury is storage and decoration at once.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

A four-style build library rewards long projects, and long projects need a world that is still standing when you come back to it. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups.

Conclusion

Dragonwilds ships four complete building styles — Cabin, Cottage, Castle and Kharidian — and each is a separate set of build entries covering flooring, walls, roofing, and beams and pillars, not one library with skins. Two families run wider than four: roofing splits Cottage into plain and Thatched with triangular sub-ranges for each, and beams add a Baroque Castle set, giving five families apiece. Within a style the wall vocabulary is consistent — full, medium, small and half walls, door and window frames, and the angled roof support walls that close the triangle under a pitched roof and are the pieces most often missed. Cottage reaches 60° supports, the steepest of the wood styles; Castle swaps angled supports for curved ones and is the only set with a double door frame. Because the styles are separate entries rather than material swaps, mixing them inside one wall run does not align — mix between structures, not within them. Above all four sit the style-agnostic categories: Home, Crafting, and a Furniture section whose Storage list runs to fourteen entries, several of which display gear as well as hold it.
