The Charred Warrior in Valheim: 600–1800 Health, and a Feint That Looks Identical to a Swing

An Ashlands battlefield in Valheim.

The Charred Warrior is the Ashlands' standard melee demon — hostile, Demon-faction, 600 health at 0★, and very resistant to Fire in a biome made of fire. It is weak to Spirit damage, resistant to Pierce, and immune to Poison, with a 50% stagger threshold. The one thing worth knowing before you swing at one: two of its four attacks are feints that share the exact windup of a real attack, with only a fraction of a second separating the fake from the hit.

The health scaling isn't as even as it looks. 0★ to 1★ doubles it: 600 × 2 = 1200. 0★ to 2★ triples it: 600 × 3 = 1800. Its damage, covered below, scales slower than that — the stars buy it survivability faster than punishment.

It drops a Charred bone every time and, occasionally, a Warrior trophy — exact rates in the attacks section below.

Where and When It Spawns

Ashlands, daytimeMiddle of the biome, limit 2, frequency 4, can be starred
Ashlands, nighttimeMiddle of the biome, no limit, frequency 4, despawns at dawn, can be starred
Monument of TormentRandom spawn near a player, frequency 3, can be starred
Monument of Torment (Elite)Frequency 3, 2★ only
Effigy of MaliceInside Charred Fortress, near a player, frequency 3, can be starred
Meadows / Black Forest / Swamp / Mountains / PlainsAnywhere, nighttime, only after defeating Fader, limit 3, frequency 1, never starred
"The undead army marches." eventBefore Fader is defeated, limit 3, frequency 6, never starred
"The dead have been summoned." eventSummoned by a Monument of Torment before Fader is defeated, no limit, frequency 3, can be starred

Ashlands spawns and the "dead have been summoned" event can be starred; post-Fader spawns in older biomes and the "undead army marches" event are never starred — so a Charred Warrior wandering the Meadows at night, or one from the undead-army event, is the weakest version of the fight. Note too that beating Fader doesn't stop them appearing; it just relocates some spawning into biomes you'd already cleared.

The Four Attacks, and What Killing One Pays

Card listing the Charred Warrior's four attacks and its drop rates in Valheim.

Swing (every 3s)150 / 225 / 300 Slash
Thrust (every 3s)160 / 240 / 320 Pierce
Feint (every 8s)130 / 195 / 260 Slash
Thrust feint (every 3s)160 / 240 / 320 Pierce
Charred bone dropped1–2 / 2–4 / 4–8
Warrior trophy chance5% at every star

The damage scaling is a clean multiplier, and a smaller one than health's. Swing: 150 at 0★, 225 at 1★ (150 × 1.5), 300 at 2★ (150 × 2) — all four attacks scale at the same 1.5× and 2× steps. So a 2★ Charred Warrior has three times the health of a 0★ one but only hits twice as hard.

The feint is the real threat, not the raw numbers. Per the wiki's attack breakdown, the Feint "shares the same windup as the swing, but they will suddenly pause before shifting stances to attack with a different slash," and "there is practically no difference between the animation for this attack and that of the regular swing" — the timing gap is about 0.57 seconds. The Thrust feint does the same to the Thrust, with a gap of about 0.631 seconds. Both are described as leaving "more than enough time to react and parry again," but each "will catch rolling players unless completely moving out of their range" — a dodge-roll through a feint doesn't work the way it does against the honest attacks.

The wiki's own tell: parry the first part of the attack — no parry animation means it's a feint, so release and hold block again for the second half. Both feint attacks also share a distinct sound cue that the regular Swing and Thrust don't use.

On the drops: Charred bone doubles cleanly per star — 1.5 average at 0★ (midpoint of 1–2), 3 at 1★, 6 at 2★ — while the Warrior trophy sits at a flat 5% regardless of star, so hunting trophies specifically gains nothing from seeking starred spawns.

Practical tips

  • 600 / 1200 / 1800 health at 0★ / 1★ / 2★ — health triples, damage only doubles.
  • Weak to Spirit, resistant to Pierce, very resistant to Fire, immune to Poison.
  • 50% stagger threshold.
  • Ashlands spawns and the "dead have been summoned" event can be starred — post-Fader spawns in older biomes and the "undead army marches" event never are.
  • Feint and Thrust feint share a real attack's windup; the tell is a 0.57s–0.631s timing gap and a distinct sound cue.
  • Parry the first half of an attack — no parry animation means it's a feint; release and hold block again.
  • Warrior trophy drops at a flat 5% regardless of star level.

Learning a feint's exact timing takes repetition, and that's easiest on a world you control. A gamever Valheim server keeps your Ashlands progress — and every Charred Fortress you've already cleared — saved for up to 10 players, with one-click backups so a bad pull never costs the whole run.

Conclusion

The Charred Warrior is the Ashlands' baseline melee demon: 600/1200/1800 health across its three star tiers, weak to Spirit, very resistant to Fire and immune to Poison, with damage that scales 1.5×/2× per star — slower than its 2×/3× health scaling. The real skill check is that the Feint and Thrust feint copy the Charred Warrior's honest Swing and Thrust almost exactly, leaving only 0.57 to 0.631 seconds to tell them apart. Kill one and you get a Charred bone for certain (1–2 at 0★, up to 4–8 at 2★) and a flat 5% chance at a Warrior trophy, star level aside.
