Side Activities in Dragonwilds: Treasure, Spectral Birds & Saradomin Statues

Between the major regions, RuneScape: Dragonwilds has been quietly filling Ashenfall with activities — repeatable, standalone things to find rather than quests to complete. Jagex describe them as "smaller standalone gameplay moments that we'll continue to expand on", and they are easy to walk past entirely because none of them appear in a quest log. Here is what exists, what each one gives, and why they suit a shared server unusually well.
The Activities
| Activity | What you do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Buried Treasure | Look for patches of disturbed ground, dig them up, find hidden chests | Across the world |
| X Marks the Spot | "A hidden treasure lies buried in Fellhollow. Get your shovel and start digging!" | Fellhollow |
| Spectral Birds | Hunt them for Soul Fragments | Fellhollow |
| Spectral Platforming | Soul-Rift and get jumping to reach rewards | Fellhollow |
| Statues of Saradomin | "Track down the clues and earn a reward that shows your loyalty and faith" | Dotted around the world |
| Letters for the Dead | Unlocked by completing the quest of the same name | Around Fellhollow |
None of these are on a timer or a lockout. They are world content — find them, do them, find more.
Buried Treasure has a specific tell: patches of disturbed ground. Jagex were careful to distance it from RuneScape's clue scrolls — "relax, clue chasers, not like that" — so do not expect a clue chain. You are looking for a visual cue on the terrain, and you need a shovel.
Spectral Platforming needs Soul-Rift, which ties it to Fellhollow's Withering mechanic. Later updates added "more Spectral Platforms — even more perilous platforming! Better rewards for bigger risks."
Why They Suit a Shared Server

Three reasons these work better on a persistent world than in a solo save.
They are solo-friendly filler. A player who logs in alone for half an hour cannot meaningfully progress a raid or a region, but they can dig up treasure, hunt Spectral Birds and find a Saradomin statue. On a six-player server where schedules rarely align, that is exactly what the odd hour needs.
Discovery persists for everyone. A statue found, a platform route learned, a treasure spot identified — all of it stays known on a shared world. Solo saves scatter that knowledge across five separate maps.
The rewards are cosmetic enough to share. The Chinchompa Cape was added as an activity completion reward, and capes, medals and trophies all hang on Cape Racks and Weapon Racks in your base — which are visible to everyone who visits, and which can be set to Private and locked so nobody walks off with them.
A base becomes a trophy cabinet. Between activity capes, Agility Gold Medals, Fishing Trophies from Pristine Fish and skillcapes earned at 99, there is a genuine collection to display — and on a server, an audience for it.
Where Activities Fit the Update Cycle

Jagex have been explicit about the cadence: activities come with Minor Updates, and "they aren't replacing our major updates every quarter!"
The pattern across the year:
| Update | Added |
|---|---|
| 0.10.1 | Spectral Platforming, Spectral Birds, Buried Treasure, the Chinchompa Cape, and two quests — Doric's Quest and Things That Go Boom in the Night |
| 0.10.2 | X Marks the Spot, more Spectral Platforms, the Letters for the Dead activity, and three quests — What Remains is Written, Letters For The Dead, Mirror, Mirror |
| 0.11.2 | Statues of Saradomin, and the quest A Melody Remembered |
| 0.11.1 | Three quests — Cook's Assistant, Animal Magnetism, A Room With Garou |
Jagex staffed for it. 0.10.1 included a "Big shout out to the Quests and Activities team who have joined the Dragonwilds team to help make more of these updates possible" — so this is a dedicated output stream rather than spare capacity.
The quest names are deliberate RuneScape callbacks — Doric's Quest, Cook's Assistant, Animal Magnetism, Biohazard, Black Knight's Fortress — and Jagex confirmed the intent: "new quests that channel the classic RuneScape feeling that you've been asking for."
The Quests Worth Prioritising

Most side quests reward cosmetics. Three reward things that change how you play, and they are worth doing early:
Animal Magnetism — the Arrow Grabba, which you "place on your back" and which accumulates arrows you have fired within a radius around you. Do this first if anyone in your group plays Ranged; recovering spent ammunition is the biggest running saving available to the build.
Cook's Assistant — a Victoria Sponge Cake recipe granting a 5-minute buff that reduces Fatigue drain by 25%. Note that its tooltip does not display, a known issue — the buff works regardless.
The Great Body Robbery — Jagex's "longest Secondary Quest to date", in Bloodblight Swamp, involving "the Good\ Doctor\ Fenkenstrain" (their asterisks). It rewards "a new club weapon that's shockingly good" and the Pylon, a buildable decoration that intercepts lightning strikes in a radius — which makes storm-prone building sites usable.
One more worth a mention: A Melody Remembered. "A mysterious jewellery box lays on an abandoned desk in the Stormtouched Highlands. There's a riddle printed on the lid, and a strange recess in it." Completion rewards a new piece of equipment.
Practical tips
- Buried Treasure is marked by patches of disturbed ground — bring a shovel, and do not expect a clue chain.
- Spectral Birds drop Soul Fragments; Spectral Platforming needs Soul-Rift.
- Statues of Saradomin are a clue-tracking activity dotted around the world.
- Do Animal Magnetism early if anyone plays Ranged — the Arrow Grabba pays for itself.
- The Great Body Robbery gives the Pylon, which makes storm-prone build sites viable.
- Activities are ideal solo filler on a shared server — real progress in a spare half-hour.
- Set your Cape and Weapon Racks to Private before displaying anything you earned.
Running your own RuneScape: Dragonwilds server
Side activities are the content that fits a real group's schedule: one person online for forty minutes can dig up treasure or hunt Spectral Birds and come away with something the whole world keeps. That only works on a world that is up whenever someone is. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall available around the clock for up to six players, updates automatically so client and server versions never drift, and takes one-click backups before disruptive changes like 1.0 on 15 September.
Conclusion
Dragonwilds fills the gaps between its regions with activities rather than more quests — Buried Treasure found by spotting patches of disturbed ground, X Marks the Spot in Fellhollow, Spectral Birds dropping Soul Fragments, Spectral Platforming via Soul-Rift, and Statues of Saradomin to track down. They arrive in Minor Updates from a dedicated Quests and Activities team, and they suit a shared server unusually well: solo-friendly, discoverable knowledge that persists for the whole group, and rewards you can hang on a Cape Rack for an actual audience. Of the side quests, three earn their time — Animal Magnetism for the Arrow Grabba, Cook's Assistant for a 25% Fatigue drain reduction, and The Great Body Robbery for the Pylon that intercepts lightning strikes.
