Restless Ghosts in Dragonwilds: Four Spirits, Visible Only at Night

The ruined village in Bramblemead Valley.

Restless Ghosts is the quest most players start in the afternoon and abandon confused, because of one rule the game does not advertise: the ghosts are only visible from sunset to sunrise. Find the amulet, walk to the right ruined house at midday, and there is nothing there. Come back after dark and the quest works. Its reward is worth the wait — four Tomes plus the permanent ability to speak to ghosts.

Four Tomes from one secondary quest is the best tome-per-quest ratio in the game, and the ghost-speech ability is granted on partial completion — you do not need to finish to keep it.

The Rule That Breaks the Quest

The ghosts are only visible from sunset to sunrise.

That is the whole difficulty. There is no marker telling you the spirit is not there yet, and four separate locations means four opportunities to conclude you are in the wrong place.

Plan the run for a single night. Ashenfall's nights are finite, so the efficient approach is to scout all four locations in daylight — clearing the goblins and rats, cutting the thorny vine, and confirming you can reach each one — then do the actual talking after sunset in one circuit.

The Four Spirits

Card listing the locations of all four Restless Ghosts spirits.

SpiritLocation
WarrenA dilapidated house in the south-west corner of the ruined village
LazinaA broken house south-east of the windmill in Temple Woods, along the walking path
FinnInside a cave blocked by thorny vines, south-east of the Wise Old Man
KayA ruined house in the Whispering Swamp, along the border with Bramblemead Valley

Finn is the one that costs preparation. His cave requires Windstep to reach the lip and then a logging axe to destroy the thorns blocking the entrance — which is why the quest lists 20 Woodcutting as a requirement and 5 air runes as an item.

Kay is the one that costs health. He is in the Whispering Swamp, which is why the recommendation list includes grilled mushrooms for poison resistance and warns about putrid rats.

Warren and Lazina are both easy walks in the starting area.

The Amulet Goes Somewhere Unexpected

Interacting with the Crumbling Well gives you the ghostspeak amulet, and there is a gotcha attached:

The amulet goes to the quest-item tab of your inventory instead of your basic inventory.

Do not go looking for it in your normal bags. Players routinely think the pickup failed, walk back to the well, and find it does nothing a second time. It is in the quest-item tab, it is working, and you can talk to ghosts.

Finishing at the Remembrance Shrine

Card explaining the Remembrance Shrine step that completes Restless Ghosts.

After meeting all four spirits, travel to the Remembrance Shrineoutside the south-west corner of the church where players first spawn. It is described as a large stone flower vase atop a stone sculpture, which is easy to walk past without registering as interactive.

Interact with the statue and select each option to "remember" all four ghosts. All four, individually. Selecting one and leaving does not complete the quest, and there is no prompt telling you the other three are still outstanding.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

A quest gated on nightfall is one you plan a session around, and that needs a world that keeps its clock running between visits. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups.

Conclusion

Restless Ghosts starts at the Crumbling Well in the Ruined Village and hands you the ghostspeak amulet, which lands in the quest-item tab rather than your normal inventory — the first thing that convinces players it failed. The rule that actually breaks the quest is that the four spirits are only visible from sunset to sunrise, so scout in daylight and talk after dark. Warren is in the ruined village's south-west corner, Lazina south-east of the Temple Woods windmill, Kay in the Whispering Swamp — bring grilled mushrooms for poison resistance — and Finn inside a cave that needs Windstep to reach and 20 Woodcutting to cut the thorns, which is why the quest lists both. Finish at the Remembrance Shrine outside the south-west corner of the starting church, a stone flower vase on a sculpture, and select all four "remember" options individually. The payout is the best tome haul of any secondary quest: Cooking, Woodcutting, Artisan and Mining Vol 1 plus permanent ghost speech, which is granted on partial completion.
