Palworld 1.0 Type Chart: Every Element Weakness & Best Counter
Palworld has nine elements, and every Pal — and every attack — carries one or two of them. Getting the matchup right is the single biggest damage multiplier in the game, worth far more than a slightly better weapon or a few extra levels. This guide gives you the full type chart, explains how it interacts with dual-element Pals, and names the best Pal added in 1.0 to counter each element so you can build a squad that covers the whole map.
The Type Chart
Each element has exactly one element it takes extra damage from. Learn this list and you have learned the chart:
| Element | Weak to | Which means it beats |
|---|---|---|
| Neutral | Dark | — (no offensive advantage) |
| Dark | Dragon | Neutral |
| Dragon | Ice | Dark |
| Ice | Fire | Dragon |
| Fire | Water | Ice, Grass |
| Water | Electric | Fire |
| Electric | Ground | Water |
| Ground | Grass | Electric |
| Grass | Fire | Ground |
Read it as a chain: Neutral → Dark → Dragon → Ice → Fire → Water → Electric → Ground → Grass → Fire. Grass loops back to Fire, which is why Fire is the only element that beats two things.
The multipliers. Attacking into a weakness deals roughly 2× damage, and attacking into a resistance deals about 0.5×. Everything else is 1×. There is also a separate bonus: a skill that matches its user's own element gets an extra 20% damage on top, so a Fire Pal using a Fire move out-damages the same move on a non-Fire Pal.
That 2×/0.5× spread is a four-fold swing. Bringing the right element matters more than almost any other decision you make before a fight.
Best 1.0 Counter for Every Element

These picks use the Pals added in the 1.0 update, ranked by their Level 80 Attack.
| Fighting… | Bring | Element | Attack (Lv 80) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neutral | Dandilord | Grass / Dark | 910 – 1,153 |
| Dark | Shaolong | Dragon / Water | 910 – 1,153 |
| Dragon | Moldron Cryst | Ice / Ground | 850 – 1,075 |
| Ice | Flaracle | Fire | 850 – 1,075 |
| Fire | Panthalus | Water | 820 – 1,036 |
| Water | Prixter Lux | Electric / Ground | 790 – 997 |
| Electric | Aegidron | Dragon / Ground | 850 – 1,075 |
| Ground | Dandilord | Grass / Dark | 910 – 1,153 |
| Grass | Eidrolon Ignis | Dragon / Fire | 880 – 1,114 |
Note how few Pals it takes to cover everything. Dandilord alone answers both Neutral and Ground thanks to its Grass/Dark typing. Add Shaolong, Moldron Cryst, Flaracle or Eidrolon Ignis, Panthalus and Prixter Lux, and a six-slot party covers all nine elements.

The weakest link is Electric. The highest-Attack Electric Pal in the update is Prixter Lux at 790 – 997, well behind the Dragons and Grass hitters. If you need to shred a Water target, Prixter Lux's partner skill helps more than its stats do — it changes your own attack type to Electric and boosts your Attack by 30–50%, so you supply the damage and it supplies the element.
How Dual-Element Pals Work

A dual-element Pal can be attacked through either half of its typing, which gives you two ways in rather than one. Some real examples from the 1.0 roster:
- Eidrolon Ignis (Dragon / Fire) — Ice punishes the Dragon half, Water punishes the Fire half. Do not bring Grass or Fire.
- Smokie Cryst (Dark / Ice) — Dragon for the Dark side, Fire for the Ice side. A mixed Dragon/Fire squad melts it.
- Moldron Cryst (Ice / Ground) — Fire for the Ice, Grass for the Ground.
- Gloopie Primo (Water / Neutral) — Electric for the Water, Dark for the Neutral.
- Dandilord (Grass / Dark) — Fire for the Grass, Dragon for the Dark.
- Aegidron (Dragon / Ground) — Ice for the Dragon, Grass for the Ground.
The flip side is that dual typing can also cancel out. If an element is strong against one of a Pal's halves but weak against the other, the two effects offset and you land ordinary damage — which is why a Water attack into a Grass/Water Pal like Ophydia is unimpressive.
Using the Chart in Practice
When catching. Element advantage is how you get a high-level Alpha into the red without killing it. Lead with the counter element to chew through its health bar quickly, then stop attacking and start throwing spheres. This matters most on Level 76–80 targets where capture rates are punishing.
When fighting bosses. Tower and Alpha bosses have fixed elements, so you can pre-build the entire squad before you walk in. That is worth more than any gear upgrade.
When your weapon is the wrong element. Several 1.0 partner skills convert your attack type outright:
- Univolt Cryst — Frigid Deity: changes your attack type to Ice and boosts Attack 5–20% while mounted. The answer to a map full of Dragons.
- Prixter Lux — Scorpion Longwave: changes your attack type to Electric and increases Attack 30–50%.
- Renjishi — Stage Combat: your attacks inflict Burn (2~6), adding Fire damage-over-time on top of whatever you are already using.
- Ophydia — Glorious Mist: your attacks inflict Soak 2, which sets up Pals that punish Soaked targets.
These effectively let one Pal re-type your whole loadout, which is far more flexible than swapping weapons.
Practical tips
- Same-element skills get a +20% bonus on their user. A Fire move on a Fire Pal beats the same move on a neutral carrier, so build Pals around their own element rather than off-type coverage moves.
- Skill power is not the same as damage. A 700-power Ice attack into a Dragon weakness beats an 800-power neutral hit comfortably.
- Bring two elements to any zone you have not scouted. Being locked into one matchup against a mixed spawn table is how easy areas turn expensive.
- Some community charts list extra secondary matchups beyond the ones above. The single-weakness chain here is the one that holds consistently in-game — build around it and treat anything beyond it as a bonus.
Running your own Palworld 1.0 server
Building a squad that covers all nine elements means catching, breeding and levelling a lot of Pals, which is much easier when the world does not stop the moment you log off. A dedicated Palworld 1.0 server keeps your breeding farms, incubators and base production running 24/7, lets friends on any platform join for boss runs through full crossplay, and protects the whole roster with one-click backups and automatic updates.
Conclusion
Palworld's type chart is one chain, not a grid: Neutral → Dark → Dragon → Ice → Fire → Water → Electric → Ground → Grass → Fire. Attacking into a weakness roughly doubles your damage and attacking into a resistance halves it, so matchup beats gear almost every time. Among 1.0's new Pals, Dandilord, Shaolong, Moldron Cryst, Eidrolon Ignis, Panthalus and Prixter Lux cover all nine elements between them — and mounts like Univolt Cryst let you convert your own attack type on demand when a squad slot is not available.
