Minecraft Enchantements

Minecraft enchantments

Minecraft has an elaborate enchantment system that, like brewing potions, can give you a competitive edge in combat. If you're playing PvP, an enchanted weapon or armor set will place you head and shoulders above another player without enchanted equipment.

Whether you're enchanting a sword to deal more damage, a set of boots to help you fall slower, or even a shield that automatically regenerates, learning how Minecraft enchantments work with items will give you an advantage in all end-game content.

List of Minecraft enchantments

Before you start enchanting all of your gear, you first need to understand what each enchant is and what it does. There are many different enchantments in Minecraft that range from levels 1 to 5. Most utility enchants (like Infinity) only have 1 level, while damage enchants often go up to 5.

Enchanting Melee Weapons

The first enchantments you are likely to encounter is the sword (although you can use an ax as a melee weapon as well). Enemies at the start of the game can drop enchanted weapons.

1.   Sharpness: Increases damage dealt by 2.5 per enchantment level.

2.    Smite: Increases the damage of undead such as zombies and skeletons by 2.5 per enchantment level.

3.    Bane of Arthropods: Increases damage dealt to insectoid enemies such as spiders and silverfish by 2.5 per enchantment level.

4.    Fire Aspect: Attacks set fire to the target with a maximum enchantment level of 2. Damage dealt is increased by 3 and 7 depending on the level.

5.    Looting: Increases the number and rarity of mobs that drop on kill with max enchantment level 3.

6.    Knockback: Each attack knocks enemies back a set number of blocks with a maximum enchantment level of 2. Each level increases the distance by 3 blocks.

7.    Efficiency: In Java Edition, an ax enchanted with efficiency has a 25% chance to disable shield use for 5 seconds, with an increased chance of 5% per level.

The trident-only enchantments are also listed here due to its dual nature as a melee and ranged weapon.

8.    Channeling: Summons lightning when enemies are hit by weapons with a maximum enchantment level of 1. This only works during thunderstorms.

9.    Impaling: Each hit deals additional damage to mobs in the water. In Java Edition, the bonus damage only applies to water monsters, while in Bedrock the damage is applied to any monster in the water.

Ranged Weapon Enchantments

These enchantments apply to bows, crossbows, and tridents.

1.    Flame: Arrows set enemies on fire for 5 additional fire damage.

2.    Infinity: Bows do not consume arrows.

3.    Piercing: Each arrow can pass through multiple enemies.

4.    Power: Increases arrow damage by 25% per level.

5.    Punch: Increases arrow knockback by 3 blocks per level.

6.    Quick Charge: Reduces the time it takes to prepare a crossbow.

7.    Multishot: Fires 3 arrows costing 1.

Again, there are a few trident-only ranged enchantments to be aware of.

8.    Loyalty: The trident returns when thrown, with each level reducing the return time.

9.    Riptide: The trident pulls the player along when thrown, increasing the distance traveled with each level. This enchantment only works in water or rain.

Universal Enchantment

These enchantments work on almost any item.

1.    Mending: Gaining experience restores the item's durability.

2.    Unbreaking: Increases the number of times an item can be used before it breaks.

3.    Curse of Vanishing: This item will disappear when the player dies.

Enchant Tool

These enchantments are best for your tools.

Efficiency: Increases the speed at which blocks are mined or destroyed.

Fortune: Each block gives more resources. Yield increases in level.

Silk Touch: Blocks fall like blocks instead of breaking - i.e. glowstone block drops glowstone block instead of glowstone dust.

Lure: Reduces the time it takes to attract a fish to the rod.

Luck of the Sea: Increases the chance to catch rare loot.

Enchant Armor

Armor enchants can give you significantly more protection from damage than armor alone.

Aqua Affinity: Increases underwater mining speed.

    Respiration: Increases underwater breathing time.

Protection: Increases resistance to all damage types by 4% per level.

Blast Protection: Reduces explosion damage and knockback distance.

Fire Protection: Reduces fire damage and burning time.

Projectile Protection: Reduces damage taken from bows, crossbows, and other projectiles.

Soul Speed: Increases Soul Sand walking speed per level.

Thorns: Reflects some of the damage taken to the attacker at the cost of durability.

    Feather Falling: Reduces fall damage.

Frost Walker: Turns water blocks into ice and allows you to run and walk on water.

Depth Strider: Increases underwater movement speed.

Curse of Binding: Armor cannot be removed once equipped, except in the event of death or breakage.

How to enchant items in Minecraft

You can enchant items in one of two ways: using an enchanting table or an anvil.

How to make an enchantming table

An Enchanting Table requires 7 items to craft: one book, two diamonds, and four obsidian.

1.     Place the book in the upper middle of the crafting grid.

2.     Place the diamond in the middle left and middle right squares of the crafting grid.

3.     Place an obsidian in the entire bottom row and one in the middle square of the entire grid. That's all it takes to craft an enchanting table, but it's somewhat limited unless it's surrounded by bookshelves. This requires 15 bookshelves placed one square away from the enchanting table in a 5×5 grid.

How to make an anvil

An anvil requires three blocks of iron and four iron ingots.

1.    Place three iron blocks on the top row of the crafting grid.

2.    Place one iron ingot in the middle of the crafting grid.

3.    Place three iron ingots on the bottom row.

The Anvil allows you to enchant items with Enchanted Books. Enchanted books can contain multiple enchantments of different levels and can be found in chests in Nether fortresses, villages, ramparts, abandoned mines, etc. E. You can also find Enchanted Books while fishing.

How to enchant an item in Minecraft using an enchanting table

The enchanting table is easy to use. You will need the item you want to enchant and a piece of lapis lazuli.

1.    Open the Enchanting Table interface.

2.    Add the item you want to enchant to the left field.

3.    Add lapis lazuli to the right box.

4.    Choose an enchantment from the list. If you don't need any of the available enchantments, wait one in-game day and try again. Available spells will be different.

If you use the level 30 enchant option, there is a chance that you will get a bonus enchant on top of the chosen one. The Enchanting Table is an easy way to enchant items, but it's not as accurate as using an Enchanted Book.

How to Enchant an Item in Minecraft with an Anvil

The Anvil can be used to repair items, but you can also apply an Enchanted Book to an item.

1.    Open the Anvil interface.

2.    Add the item you want to enchant to the leftmost square.

3.    Place the Enchanted Book on the square next to it.

4.    Remove the newly enchanted item from the square on the right. This will require some experience depending on how many times the item has passed through the anvil.

Each time an item passes through an anvil, whether it needs to be enchanted or repaired, it increases the cost of its subsequent use. Once the cost of this tier goes above 39, the game will simply say "Too expensive" and will no longer allow you to use this item on the anvil.

Minecraft enchanting can make or break your adventure. Fire Protection can help you fight creatures in the Nether, while Aqua Affinity and Breath can give you an edge in Ocean Temples. Feather Falling helps with research. There are so many possibilities and you are only limited by the items you can find.
