Melee Weapons in Palworld: Fifteen of Them, and Three Are Not Weapons At All

Palworld's melee list runs from 10 attack to 2,000, and three of its entries exist for reasons that have nothing to do with damage. The Stun Baton at 10 is a capture tool. The Meat Cleaver at 25 permanently destroys Pals. The Hand-Held Torch at 10 is a light source that happens to swing.
The rest form a clean, steep ladder in three families: swords, spears and blunt weapons.
The Sword Line

| Sword | Tech | Common | Legendary | Multiplier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Primitive Sword | 17 | 180 | — | — |
| Sword | 29 | 360 | 540 | x1.5 |
| Katana | 44 | 780 | 1,170 | x1.5 |
| Beam Sword | 57 | 930 | 1,395 | x1.5 |
| Laser Sword | 73 | 2,000 | 2,400 | x1.2 |
The Sword needs a Weapon Workbench, which its own description states outright — the earlier Primitive Sword does not.
The Katana-to-Beam Sword step is the weakest in the ladder — 780 to 930, a 19% gain across 13 technology levels — while the Beam Sword costs Plasteel 30, Paldium Fragment 100, Nightstar Sand 20 and a Computer.
The Laser Sword more than doubles it, at 2,000 for Soralite Ingot 50, Paldium Fragment 250, Bio Battery 30 and AI Core 3.
Four of the five scale at x1.5 — only the Laser Sword drops to the endgame x1.2. A Legendary Katana at 1,170 is a genuinely strong mid-game weapon.
The Spear Line
| Spear | Tech | Attack | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stone Spear | 3 | 35 | "Its length allows you to stand further away" |
| Metal Spear | 13 | 80 | Metal tip |
| Refined Metal Spear | 34 | 310 | High-quality tip |
| Lily's Spear | 55 | 860 | Rare 860, Legendary 1,075 |
| Enhanced Lily's Spear | 68 | 1,200 | Rare 1,200, Legendary 1,500 |
Reach is the spear class's stated advantage, repeated in all three ordinary spear descriptions: standing further away while attacking.
Lily's Spear does not publish a Common tier. It appears at Rare 860 and Legendary 1,075, which is unusual — most weapons start at Common.
The Enhanced version at 1,200 Rare and 1,500 Legendary costs Paldium Fragment 20, Soralite Ingot 30, High Quality Cloth 20, High Quality Wooden Board 20 — and its Legendary figure beats a Legendary Beam Sword's 1,395.
The Blunt Line, and the Three Non-Weapons

| Weapon | Tech | Attack | What it is actually for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Club | 1 | 25 | The first weapon in the game |
| Bat | 7 | 50 | "Might be tough to get a home run with a Pal" |
| Metal Bat | 40 | 500 | x1.5 to a Legendary 750 |
| Hand-Held Torch | 1 | 10 | Lights dark areas and keeps you warm |
| Stun Baton | 22 | 10 | Pals are easier to capture when electrocuted |
| Meat Cleaver | 12 | 25 | The Pet command becomes Butcher |
The Metal Bat is the sleeper of the melee list. At technology 40 it delivers 500 attack from Hardwood 30 and Refined Ingot 20 — no ingots beyond refined, no cores — which puts it above a Refined Metal Spear and within range of a Katana four levels later.
The Stun Baton is a capture tool with a weapon's slot. Ten attack is deliberately negligible; the point is the electrocution status, which sits alongside the Poison and Fire Bows as a way to weaken a Pal without killing it.
The Meat Cleaver is destructive and permanent. "When equipped, the Pet command becomes Butcher. Butchered Pals will be gone for good." Carrying one by accident is a genuine risk on a shared world — a mis-click destroys a teammate's Pal.
Do not keep a Meat Cleaver in a shared chest. It is the one item in the game where an accidental equip has an irreversible consequence.
Which Melee Weapon to Carry

- Technology 17: the Primitive Sword at 180. From Wooden Board 2, Stone 15, Ingot 15.
- Technology 40: the Metal Bat at 500. Cheaper than every sword near it and stronger than the Refined Metal Spear.
- Technology 44: the Katana at 780. Pal Metal Ingot 20 and a x1.5 ladder to 1,170.
- Technology 68–73: the Enhanced Lily's Spear at 1,200, or the Laser Sword at 2,000. The Laser Sword wins on damage; the spear wins on reach and on rarity scaling.
- Always carry a Stun Baton if you are capturing, and never carry a Meat Cleaver unless you mean to butcher.
Melee combos are their own system. The sword line chains attacks in a specific order — see How sword, katana, and beam sword combo chains work.

A Meat Cleaver in a shared chest is a permanent accident waiting to happen, which is one more reason group worlds want backups. A gamever Palworld server keeps yours persistent with full crossplay, automatic updates and one-click backups.
Conclusion
Palworld's fifteen melee entries split into three damage families and three tools. The swords run Primitive 180, Sword 360, Katana 780, Beam Sword 930, Laser Sword 2,000, with four of five scaling at x1.5 and only the Laser Sword dropping to x1.2 — and the Katana-to-Beam Sword step is the weakest in the ladder at 19% across 13 technology levels. The spears trade damage for reach and end at the Enhanced Lily's Spear, which publishes no Common tier and runs 1,200 Rare to 1,500 Legendary, beating a Legendary Beam Sword. The sleeper is the Metal Bat at technology 40: 500 attack from Hardwood 30 and Refined Ingot 20, above the Refined Metal Spear and close to a Katana. And three entries are not weapons: the Hand-Held Torch is a light source, the Stun Baton at 10 attack exists to electrocute Pals into easier captures, and the Meat Cleaver turns your Pet command into Butcher, destroying Pals for good — which makes it the one item you should never leave in a shared chest.
