Max Players on Your Sons of the Forest Server

Survivors explore a forest clearing together in Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest co-op supports up to 8 players on a dedicated server. Your gamever panel shows your current slot usage right on the Overview tab, and keeping a full group smooth is mostly about matching your plan to the player count — because this is a RAM-heavy game. This guide covers the cap, reading your slots, and sizing up.

The 8-player cap

8 is the maximum for a Sons of the Forest co-op session — it's built into the game, not a gamever limit. Your server shows its slots as a count like 0/8 on the Overview tab. That's the number of players connected out of the maximum the session allows.

The Sons of the Forest Overview with the player count

Reading your slots

On the Overview tab, Players shows how many of the eight slots are in use. Alongside it you'll see:

  • Region — where the server runs; keep it close to your group for low ping.
  • Usage — the live CPU and RAM meters, which tell you whether a full group is comfortable on your plan.

Size your plan for a full group — Sons of the Forest is RAM-heavy

More players means more loaded world, physics and AI, and Sons of the Forest is one of the more memory-hungry survival games to host. The panel can show around 6.7 GB of RAM in use with a full 8-player server, so a busy server needs real memory headroom:

  • Watch the Overview → Usage meters with your group on.
  • If RAM (or CPU) runs hot, click Upgrade server for more resources (see fixing lag).
  • Running 8 players on an undersized plan just means a laggy 8 — size the plan to how you actually play.

Additional Tips

  • 8 is the hard cap — it's a game limit, not a host one; you can't go higher.
  • Watch RAM, not just CPU — Sons of the Forest leans heavily on memory.
  • 0/8 is your slot count on Overview — connected players out of the max.
  • Upgrade for a full house — a busy 8-player server wants real headroom.
  • Pick a close region so everyone has low ping.

Conclusion

Your Sons of the Forest server holds up to 8 players, shown as your live slot count on the Overview tab. The cap is fixed by the game, so the real task is making sure your plan can carry a full group — and because this is a RAM-heavy title (around 6.7 GB on eight players), that means watching the Usage meters and using Upgrade server when they run hot. Size it right and a full group runs smooth.
