Hunting in Dragonwilds: The Creatures With 1, 30 and 60 Health

A kebbit burrow in Ashenfall.

Not everything that moves in Ashenfall is a threat. Between the Garou packs and the vault constructs sits a group of small creatures with health values that read like typos — the Gyrfalcon has 1 health, the Kebbit has 30, the Chinchompa has 60 — and catching them is a resource activity rather than a combat one. Two of them, though, are genuinely dangerous, and the difference is not size.

The Whole Group

The Gyrfalcon has one point of health. That is not a low number, it is the lowest possible number — anything that connects kills it. Along with the Kebbit's 30, these are the two creatures in the game that exist purely as a gathering node with legs.

The Two That Are Not Errands

The Terrorbird at 195 health is the first of these that fights back properly, and it is weak to Stab and resistant to Air — the reverse of the Garou Hunter it shares the Fractured Plains with. A dagger or spear is the right tool; an Air caster is fighting into resistance.

The Carnivorous Chinchompa at 230 health and power level 5 is the one that surprises people. It arrived with update 0.11 on 31 March 2026 in Dowdun Reach, and it is a Chinchompa in name and model only — nearly four times the health of the ordinary one and two power levels above it. A player who has spent a hundred hours treating chinchompas as free loot will walk into Dowdun Reach and treat this one the same way.

Both Chinchompas share the ordinary one's profile — weak to Ranged, resistant to Fire — so the tool is the same even though the fight is not.

The Fire Resistance Is the Trap

Card explaining that both Chinchompa types resist Fire despite being explosive.

Both Chinchompas resist Fire, which is the counter-intuitive entry in this whole set given what chinchompas are known for. The explosive association makes fire feel like the thematic answer, and it is the one element that works worst.

Ranged is the published weakness for both. That is a tidy piece of design — the creature you throw is also the creature you shoot — and it means a bow user gets full value from the hunt while a caster does not.

The Kebbit and Gyrfalcon publish "None" for both weakness and resistance, so every damage type is neutral against them. At 30 and 1 health that is academic, but it does mean there is no wrong tool.

Where They Live

RegionWhat you will find
Kebbit burrows across AshenfallKebbit — a fixed, findable node
Fractured PlainsChinchompa, Terrorbird
Stormtouched HighlandsChinchompa, Gyrfalcon
Dowdun ReachCarnivorous Chinchompa

The Kebbit is burrow-bound, which makes it the most reliably farmable of the group — burrows are locations you can pin and return to, rather than wandering spawns. The Gyrfalcon is Highlands-only, and given its single point of health, finding one is the entire difficulty.

The Chinchompa spans two regions at the same power level, so there is no reason to travel for it; take them where you find them.

Fitting Hunting Into a Session

Card outlining when hunting is worth the detour in Dragonwilds.

  • Take the 1s and 30s in passing. A Gyrfalcon or Kebbit costs one hit and no preparation. There is no reason to walk past one and no reason to make a trip for one.
  • Bring a bow to Chinchompa country. Ranged is the weakness for both varieties and Fire is resisted by both.
  • Treat the Carnivorous Chinchompa as a Dowdun Reach enemy, not a chinchompa. 230 health at power level 5 is a real fight wearing a familiar model.
  • Use Stab on Terrorbirds and keep Air spells for something else — it resists them.
  • Pin the kebbit burrows. They are fixed locations, which makes the Kebbit the only genuinely schedulable animal here.

Running your own Dragonwilds server

Hunting is the low-stakes activity someone does while the rest of the group is fighting something serious — which works when everyone shares one world that keeps running. A gamever Dragonwilds server keeps Ashenfall persistent with automatic updates and one-click backups.

Conclusion

Ashenfall's huntable creatures cover an absurd range: the Gyrfalcon has 1 health, the Kebbit 30, both at power level 1 with no weakness and no resistance, which makes them gathering nodes rather than fights. The Chinchompa at 60 and the Terrorbird at 195 sit at power level 3, and the Carnivorous Chinchompa — added with 0.11 in Dowdun Reach — is the one to respect at 230 health and power level 5, nearly four times its ordinary cousin behind an almost identical model. Both Chinchompas are weak to Ranged and resistant to Fire, which is the trap: an explosive creature that specifically does not burn. The Terrorbird is weak to Stab and resistant to Air, the reverse of the Garou Hunter sharing its region. And the Kebbit's burrows are fixed locations, making it the only member of this group you can actually plan a route around.
