How to use Vending machine fridge in Rust Jungle Update
If you’ve just returned from the jungle dripping with loot and ready to trade, it’s time to take full advantage of one of the update’s slickest new features: the refrigerated vending machine. No more mixing fridges and vending separately. Now the vending machine itself can act as a fridge—as long as you power it up.
How to activate refrigeration in a vending machine
There’s no more need to place a fridge next to the vending machine. This update changed everything. To enable refrigeration, you simply connect power directly to your vending machine. That’s it. Once powered, the vending machine will begin to refrigerate any perishable food items placed inside it. The items are chilled automatically and won’t spoil over time. The machine still works like any other vending machine: you load it up, set prices, and players can buy from it. But now the food stays fresh while it’s on sale.

What can be sold refrigerated now?
Any food that could previously spoil in Rust can now be sold in a chilled state. That includes croc pie, big cat pie, cooked exotic meat, eggs, and even items from events like unique teas or special stews.

You need to deliver power straight into the vending machine—no need for fridges or branches unless you’re running more systems in parallel. A solar panel during daytime, connected to a small battery, then to the vending machine input is enough to keep it chilled. The vending machine’s refrigeration feature needs 5rW minimum to function. Make sure you don’t let it go unpowered at night or in deep jungle shade, or the refrigeration bonus will turn off.

Why this changes food selling in Rust
This system makes food vending a real business model. Before, players avoided buying food in vending machines unless it was clearly fresh. Now, you can confidently sell anything edible knowing it stays chilled. Jungle traders can now profit off cooking and hunting without worrying their stock will rot. If you’re creative, you can even open a jungle diner, food stall, or snack shack to serve the local explorers.

Extra tips and uses
You don’t need any special DLC or extra blueprints for this feature—it works with default vending machines as long as they’re powered. Use signs, decorative skins, and good placement to build trust with your customers. Keep your vending machine in a semi-protected area and add defenses if you’re in a high-traffic zone. Refrigeration makes your food valuable, so treat your setup like a loot target.
If the power cuts, so does refrigeration. This means your items will begin to spoil again unless power is restored. Use batteries to buffer through night-time, and avoid placing solar panels in deep jungle shadows. Also remember: only food gets the refrigeration bonus—no meds, syringes, or other gear.
This updated system is simple, elegant, and way more useful than the old fridge-vending combo. Just power your machine, load it up with food, and chill out while the profits roll in.
