How to Use the Chemistry Station in 7 Days to Die

Overview card introducing the Chemistry Station workstation.

The Chemistry Station is a crafting station introduced in Alpha 15 that makes certain recipes faster and cheaper than the Workbench or hand-crafting, and some recipes are locked to it entirely. Per the wiki, it's "essential for crafting advanced items needed for healing the player and teammates," and it's also the go-to source for various types of Candy with temporary buffs. This guide covers how to get one, how to keep it running and repaired, and what it actually unlocks — quoted from the source so nothing here is guessed.

How to Get a Chemistry Station

Data card covering the crafting recipe and unlock requirements.

You don't have to build one from scratch — "Usable Chemistry Stations can be found throughout the game world, including within Trader outposts." On the Navezgane map, the wiki lists six named locations: inside a Pop-N-Pills under the stairs at Perishton, near the top floor of the hospital in Diersville, in the junkyard in the desert on the second floor, in the Strip Club in West Navezgane, in a Pop-N-Pills east of Gravestown, and in the well at Trader Hugh's.

To craft your own, the current recipe (infobox plus crafting table) is 1 Beaker, 100 Forged Iron, 3 Cooking Pot, 30 Short Iron Pipe, and 5 Bottle of Acid, made at a Workbench and completed via a Chemistry Station Schematic. The infobox lists it as unlocked by "[[Yeah, Science]] lvl 1," while the crafting table separately shows an "Unlock Options: Workstations 50/75" entry — the page doesn't explain what those two numbers mean, so treat it as a documented but unexplained second unlock path.

The recipe wasn't always this cheap. Per the History section: added in Alpha 15 requiring 2 Beakers, 1 Burning Barrel, 3 Cooking Pots, 15 Short Iron Pipes, and 40 Wood; Alpha 18 cut the Beaker requirement to 1; Alpha 19 changed it to the current recipe above. Note that the infobox's own updated_version field reads "Alpha 16.0," which doesn't match the Alpha 18/19 changes the History section describes — both are quoted as the page states them, and the mismatch itself is undocumented.

Fueling, Repairing, and Moving Your Chemistry Station

Data card covering fuel, the warmth buff, repair materials, and pickup rules.

A Combustible source that acts as fuel is required to operate the Chemistry Station. The wiki is direct about what happens if you let it run dry: "When the fuel source has run out, the Chemistry Station will cease production suspending the item from being completed until more combustible fuel is added at which point it will resume the recipe." A queued recipe pauses rather than fails. The infobox also lists a "Warmed by a Fire" buff alongside three raw heat-map values — strength 1.5, time 1200, frequency 25 — given without defined units, so those three numbers are documented but unexplained.

Repairs use any Repair Tool, with materials Forged Iron, Short Iron Pipe, and Wood — the page gives no exact quantities, so that's undocumented beyond the three materials named. The infobox's own durability, structural integrity, hit points, scrappable, and repair fields are all blank on this page — undocumented.

Pickup has real conditions. "Player-owned chemistry stations within the bounds of the player's Land Claim Block can be picked up by holding down the activate key (default 'E') and selecting the Take option on the radial menu. Only a fully-repaired Chemistry Station that is empty can be picked up." The Notes section adds: "Destroyed Chemistry Stations (found in various POI at Traders) can't be repaired, only looted and harvested."

What You Can Craft at a Chemistry Station

Data card listing a selection of the Chemistry Station's craftable recipes.

The wiki's Usage table lists 18 recipe rows tied to the Chemistry Station, covering 17 distinct items — Glue appears twice, once from Bone and once from Ear of Super Corn, which is why the row and item counts differ. The full list, with the wiki's own ingredient counts: Antibiotics (Old Sham Sandwich x1, Nitrate Powder x1, Water x1); Beer (Hops Flower x4, Water x1); First Aid Kit (Beer x1, Blood Bag x1, Bandage x5, Sewing Kit x1); Fort Bites (Blood Bag x2, Beer x1, Rotting Flesh x20, Vitamins x1); Gas Can x2 (Oil Shale x1); Glue (Bone x5, Water x1 — or Ear of Super Corn x3, Water x1); Gunpowder (Nitrate Powder x1, Coal x1); Herbal Antibiotics (Blueberries x2, Mushrooms x1, Chrysanthemum Flower x1, Nitrate Powder x1, Water x1); Lead Car Battery (Lead x180, Bottle of Acid x1, Scrap Polymers x10, Legendary Parts x0); Oil (Oil Shale x24); Paint x500 (Chrysanthemum Flower x1, Water x1); Paper x10 (Wood x10, Glue x1, Water x1); Plaster Cast (Cloth Fragment x25, Cornmeal x4, Crushed Sand x2, Water x1); Recog (Bottle of Acid x2, Beer x1, Scrap Polymers x5, Vitamins x1); Stack of Gas Cans x5000 (Oil Shale x2000); Stack of Gunpowder x1000 (Coal x800, Nitrate Powder x800); Steroids (Oil x1, Beer x1, Testosterone Extract x1).

The page qualifies this list: "For items with quality levels, ingredient list is based on a quality 1 item," so higher-quality output costs more than listed — those higher-tier costs are undocumented here.

Practical tips

  • Keep Combustible fuel stocked — an empty tank pauses your current craft instead of losing it, but stops production until refueled.
  • The recipe changed twice (Alpha 18, then Alpha 19); if an old note quotes 2 Beakers and a Burning Barrel, it's describing the pre-Alpha-18 version.
  • You need a fully repaired and empty Chemistry Station inside your own Land Claim Block to pick it up — a destroyed station found at a Trader POI can only be looted, never repaired.
  • Glue has two recipes at this station (Bone or Ear of Super Corn) — either works if you're short one ingredient.
  • Remember the quality-1 caveat: quality-scaling recipes cost more than the listed quantities above quality 1.

Running your own 7 Days to Die server

If your group is fighting over the shared Chemistry Station, the fix is usually more world, not more stations — a dedicated 7 Days to Die server keeps the world (and every placed Chemistry Station in it) running whether or not you're logged in, so fuel doesn't sit idle and queued recipes finish between sessions. A gamever server also makes it easy to reach config files and take one-click backups before anyone experiments with base layout around a Land Claim Block. Renting one takes minutes, with a free trial via promo code WELCOME.

Conclusion

The Chemistry Station turns fuel and raw materials into recipes the Workbench can't touch, from Antibiotics and First Aid Kits to Gunpowder and Candy-class items, and it runs on its own rules: Combustible fuel to keep producing, a Repair Tool plus Forged Iron, Short Iron Pipe, and Wood to fix, and pickup only when fully repaired, empty, and inside your Land Claim Block. Build one with the current 1 Beaker / 100 Forged Iron / 3 Cooking Pot / 30 Short Iron Pipe / 5 Bottle of Acid recipe, or find one already standing at a Trader outpost or one of Navezgane's six documented locations — either way, remember the quality-1 caveat before assuming the listed ingredient counts are final.
