How to Tame Dogs in Enshrouded Souls of the Frozen Frontier Update

Taming a dog goes beyond just a simple task –  it's about building a bond with a loyal companion who will stand by your side. Whether it’s a dog named Ruffles or another, your new furry friend will become a protector and trusty sidekick throughout your adventures. Here’s everything you need to know to bring a dog into your life.

 

 

Finding the Dog

 

     The journey begins with the "Man’s Best Friend" mission given to you from the Athalan Skree the Hunter.

 

 

     Head to Emily the Farmer, who will provide the materials needed to craft dog bait. You’ll need meat and dry purple berries, which you can gather by hunting animals like rabbits and wolves.

 

 

     Craft several baits for the taming process. Once done, equip the bait and follow your mission guide to Thornhold, a settlement taken over by scavengers. If it’s not on your map, you can find it near Revelwood Ancient Spire. Follow your mission marker to make the journey easier.

 

 

 

Meeting Ruffles

 

     When you reach Thornhold, you’ll face some hostile NPCs. Clear the area to make taming easier. Ruffles, the dog you're looking for, can usually be found near a glowing plaque in the town’s center. If you can’t find him right away, look around the town’s outer edges or gates.

 

 

     Once you spot Ruffles, be aware that he’s skittish. Throw some bait to grab his attention, then step back to avoid startling him. As he starts to eat, approach slowly and give him a gentle pet. This is your first step to gaining his trust.

 

 

 

Earning Ruffles’ Trust

 

     The taming process requires patience. While Ruffles eats, approach carefully and pet him when he’s calm. If you see an exclamation mark above his head, back off immediately, as it means he’s about to get frightened. If you get too close or pet him at the wrong time, you might lose his trust and have to start over.

 

 

     Keep repeating this process: drop bait, back off, then approach as he eats. By seeing Queston mark, don’t move and wait. Each time you get closer and pet him, you’ll earn more trust. Once you’ve built enough trust, you’ll be able to pick him up as your companion.

 

 

 

Bringing Ruffles Home

 

     Once you’ve tamed Ruffles, head back to your base. To make him feel at home, you’ll need to craft a dog bowl and pillow at the farmer’s station. Place the bowl and pillow near each other in a safe area. Put some dog food in the bowl, and Ruffles will find it to enjoy. This ensures he has a comfortable spot to eat and sleep.

 

 

 

Caring for Your Dog

 

     Ruffles does more than add a bit of charm to your base. Regularly petting him gives you a temporary health boost, known as the "paw's touch" bonus. With the "aura of protection," Ruffles will also help defend you and other pets. Keep him fed and happy, and he’ll always be by your side, offering companionship and protection as you go on your quests.
