How to Set a Password and Player Limit on Your Satisfactory Server

Two settings decide who plays on your Satisfactory server and how many: the passwords (admin and client/join) and the player limit. Because Satisfactory manages sessions in-game, these live partly in the in-game Server Manager and partly on your gamever panel. This guide covers both.
The two passwords
Satisfactory has two separate passwords — don't mix them up:
| Password | What it controls | Where it's set |
|---|---|---|
| Admin Password | Full administrative control of the server. Anyone who authenticates with it becomes an admin. | Set when you claim the server (in-game) — see connecting and claiming. |
| Client Password | The join password ordinary players need to connect. Blank = open server. | In the server's settings via the in-game Server Manager. |
To gate your server, set a Client Password and share it with your players. Share the Admin Password only with co-admins. To make the server open, leave the Client Password blank.
Setting the join password
- Connect to your server and open the Server Manager.
- Open your server's settings/password section.
- Set the Client Password (or clear it for an open server).
Players then enter this password the first time they add the server by its address.
The player limit
A Satisfactory session's max players is chosen in-game when managing the session (the game caps how many pioneers a session allows). Set it in the Server Manager for your session to the number your group needs.
Your gamever plan determines the resources (CPU/RAM) available — a bigger co-op group wants a plan with enough headroom, since each connected player adds load. Watch the Overview tab's performance while a full group plays, and upgrade the plan if it struggles.
Changing the Admin Password
The Admin Password is set at claim time. If you need to change it or you've lost admin, manage it through the Server Manager on a connected admin client; if you're fully locked out, our support team can help reset access from the server side.
Additional Tips
- Two passwords, two jobs — Admin = control, Client = join. Keep them different.
- Blank Client Password = open server — anyone with the address can join.
- Share the Admin Password sparingly — it hands over full control.
- Match players to your plan — more pioneers = more CPU/RAM; check the Overview.
- Set the join password before you share the address so the server isn't briefly open.
Conclusion
Controlling access to your Satisfactory server comes down to the two passwords and the session's player cap: set a Client Password in the Server Manager to decide who joins, keep the Admin Password for co-admins only, and size your max players to both your group and your gamever plan. Lock it down or leave it open — it's a couple of fields either way.
