How to make Ballista in Valheim
Defend your turf like a boss with a Ballista! Here’s your step-by-step guide to crafting and mastering this game-changing weapon.
What is the Valheim Ballista?
A Ballista in Valheim is like a giant crossbow that doesn’t need you to pull the trigger. It’s a stationary turret that automatically targets and shoots anything that gets in its way, making it perfect for base defense or taking down baddies in the wild.

Crafting the Valheim Ballista
To build one of these bad boys, here’s what you’ll need:
- 3 Mechanical Springs
- 20 Black Metal
- A Workbench

Step One: Craft Mechanical Springs
Grab some Iron (3 pieces) and Refined Eitr (1 piece) to craft these babies. You’ll find the recipe at the Artisan Table. Iron’s easy to get – just smelt some Scrap Iron.

But for Refined Eitr, you’ll need to head to the Mistlands and collect Sap from Yggdrasil Roots, then process it in an Eitr Refinery.

Step Two: Gather Black Metal
Time for a raid! Hit up the Plains biome and raid some Fuling Villages. You’re after Black Metal Scraps, which you’ll need to turn into Black Metal using a Blast Furnace.

Crafting Ballista Ammo
Load up your Ballista with some firepower! You can craft two types of ammo at the Artisan Table:
- Wooden Missile: Core Wood and regular Wood
- Black Metal Missile: Wood, Feathers, and Black Metal

Using the Valheim Ballista
Once your Ballista’s in place, keep it loaded with at least one Missile to keep it active. It automatically targets enemies, so just make sure it’s pointing in the right direction. But watch out – it’ll shoot anything that crosses its path, even you!

Defending with a Ballista rocks, but don’t get in its line of fire – it’ll shoot you too! Stay safe and keep those Missiles flying.
With a Ballista at your side, you’re ready to defend your turf like a true Viking warrior. So get crafting, load up, and let the enemies come – you’re locked, loaded, and ready to take ‘em down!
