How to make an iron golem in Minecraft

Figure 1 Iron Golem

In Minecraft, you have the ability to create an Iron Golem by combining four iron blocks and a carved pumpkin. By arranging the iron blocks in a "T" shape and placing the pumpkin on top, the structure transforms into an Iron Golem. These creatures can also naturally spawn in villages and pillager outposts throughout your Minecraft world. When playing as an enemy character such as a zombie, pillager, or spider, encountering an Iron Golem can be quite terrifying.

Iron Golems are non-player characters (NPCs) commonly found in friendly villages. Initially appearing peaceful, they swiftly attack and eliminate any enemies they spot, including players. If you provoke an Iron Golem by attacking it or harming a villager near it, it will become aggressive and engage in combat.

While most Iron Golems serve as protectors of villages, you can construct your own Golem to defend your personal dwelling. They will eliminate nearby enemies, but they generally stay within proximity and can be leashed to a fence to restrict their movement.

Figure 2 Making an Iron Golem

To create an Iron Golem in Minecraft, gather the necessary materials: four iron blocks and a carved pumpkin, jack o'lantern, or pumpkin (in the Bedrock Edition). To obtain iron blocks, combine nine iron ingots by smelting raw iron or iron ore with any fuel source. Pumpkins can be found naturally growing in grassy areas, and using shears on a pumpkin will transform it into a carved pumpkin. Combining a carved pumpkin with a torch yields a jack o'lantern.

Once you have the required materials, stack two iron blocks and place a single block on opposite sides of the top one, forming a "T" shape. Then, position the pumpkin on top of the middle block. The structure will immediately transform into an Iron Golem, which will begin to roam around.

Additionally, you can create Snow Golems, also known as living snowmen, by stacking a carved pumpkin, jack o'lantern, or pumpkin (in the Bedrock Edition) on top of two snow blocks. Snow Golems attack enemies by throwing snowballs and are susceptible to damage from warm weather and rain.

When utilizing an Iron Golem, they will automatically target and attack any enemies they encounter. Over time, Golems you create may wander to the nearest village lacking a Golem, where they will remain. To keep your Iron Golem within a specific area, you can either fence off an enclosure or use a lead to tie it to a fence. Iron Golems will not pursue enemies beyond the fenced area or the reach of their leash.

If you want an Iron Golem to act as a personal security guard, it is best to surround your entire property with fences. This allows the Golem to freely roam and defend against enemies while preventing it from straying. However, ensure there are no blocks nearby that the Golem can use to jump over the fence.

During battles, you may notice cracks appearing on the Iron Golem's body, indicating damage. The number of cracks corresponds to the Golem's remaining health. To heal an Iron Golem, hold iron ingots and "use" them on the Golem's chest. Each ingot used will restore 25 health points.

It's important to note that while any Iron Golem you create will not attack you, it will retaliate against a tamed wolf if it harms the Golem. When an Iron Golem is defeated, it drops a few iron ingots and occasionally poppy flowers.

Apart from crafting your own Iron Golem, you can also encounter them naturally in villages and pillager outposts. Most villages have an Iron Golem patrolling the area and eliminating any threats. If you harm a villager or have previously attacked the village.
