How to Fix Lag on Your Abiotic Factor Server

A tense moment deep in the GATE facility in Abiotic Factor

Abiotic Factor is a six-player co-op game, so it's lighter to host than a huge open-world survival title — which means when lag shows up (rubber-banding, delayed tool/weapon hits, stutter near a big facility), it usually points to a specific, fixable cause. This guide walks through the server-side ones in order.

First, check the Usage meters

On the Overview tab, watch the Usage bars while the lag is happening:

The Abiotic Factor Overview Usage meters

  • CPU near 100% — the usual bottleneck, especially with a full squad and a large base running power grids, machines and NPCs.
  • RAM near the top — a long campaign with a big save eats memory over time.

If either is maxed, click Upgrade server for more resources — the most direct fix when you've simply outgrown your plan.

Match your plan to your squad

Abiotic Factor caps at around six players, but a full team still needs real headroom:

  • A small group runs fine on a modest plan.
  • A full six-player server with a built-up facility wants more CPU and RAM — see max players & plan sizing.
  • Running six on the smallest plan will feel laggy; size to how you actually play.

Restart to clear drift

A server up for many days drifts in memory and gets hitchy. Clear it:

  • Set a daily scheduled restart at a quiet hour.
  • Or hit Restart from Overview the moment you notice slowdown.

This alone resolves a lot of "it got worse over the week" lag.

Rule out the network and region

Not all "lag" is the server's resources:

  • Region — your server's region is on Overview. A region far from your squad adds ping for everyone; pick one close to the group.
  • One player only — if a single person lags while everyone else is fine, that's their local connection, not the server. Compare whether everyone is affected or just one.

Additional Tips

  • Check Usage first — maxed CPU/RAM points straight at the fix.
  • CPU is the usual bottleneck on a busy, built-up facility.
  • Size the plan to six if you run a full squad (see max players).
  • Restart regularly to clear accumulated memory (see scheduled restarts).
  • Pick a close region so ping isn't mistaken for server lag.

Conclusion

Server-side Abiotic Factor lag is almost always resources, drift or distance: check the Usage meters (and Upgrade server if CPU/RAM are maxed), size your plan to your real squad, schedule a daily restart, and keep your region close to your players. Work down that list and smooth six-player co-op is the result.
