How to Farm in Abiotic Factor
Farming in Abiotic Factor provides a reliable source of food and crafting materials, helping you stay prepared in the challenging environments of the game. With the right setup, you can create a sustainable operation that supplies your needs. Here’s how farming works and how to get started.

Farming Basics
Farming requires a combination of resources and preparation. You’ll need seeds, clean water, a light source, a garden plot, and time. Begin by crafting garden plots using materials found in Bio Lab D. Position the plots within your base and place a light source nearby, such as a lamp from the Data Farm.

Next, plant seeds in the garden plots and water them using clean water stored in a container like a cooking pot or bottle. The progress of your crops depends on regular watering. Each garden plot has a water meter visible on the side, and a red flashing light will warn you when water levels are too low. Crops will die if neglected, so maintain them consistently.

Once crops mature, they can be harvested for food or crafting materials. Fully grown crops don’t require further watering, so you can leave them until needed to conserve water.

Acquiring Seeds
There are two main ways to obtain seeds in the game:
1. Looting: Explore the map to discover seeds in locations like Bio Lab D or Portal Worlds.
2. Scrapping: Use a Repair & Salvage Station to convert certain crops into seeds. However, some plants, especially rare ones, cannot be scrapped and must be looted repeatedly.

Keep spare seeds to ensure a continuous cycle of planting and harvesting. Some seeds, like those for exotic plants found in Portal Worlds, are particularly valuable for crafting or attracting specific creatures.
Watering and Maintaining Crops
Clean water is essential for farming. Boil tainted water to create clean water at a 4:1 ratio using a cooking pot or similar tool. Later in the game, you can find devices that automatically filter water.

Regularly check your crops to ensure they are adequately watered. Planters deplete water over time, and larger plots drain faster. Stay attentive to avoid losing your plants.
Using Fertilizer
Fertilizer accelerates crop growth and improves yields but can be resource-intensive to craft. It’s worth using for slow-growing or rare plants, but most crops grow efficiently enough without it. Unlock fertilizers as you progress in the Agriculture skill.

Common and Rare Crops
Here are some notable crops and their uses:
- Tomatoes and Potatoes: Basic crops found in early-game locations, useful for sustenance.
- Super Tomato: A crafted crop combining Tomato Seeds, Anteverse Wheat, and Enethiol for high-value food.

- Pumpkin: Found in the Canaan Portal World and used in decorative recipes.
- Rope Plant: Provides functional climbing tools but doesn’t yield additional seeds.
- Space Lettuce: Rare, found in Cascade Laboratories, with limited seed sources.
- Xanterium Rice: Found in Voussoir Portal World, requiring trips to replenish seeds.
- Antelight: Can used as decoration with purple light around it.

Farming in Abiotic Factor is an effective way to sustain yourself while exploring. With careful planning and consistent maintenance, you can ensure a steady supply of resources. By understanding the needs of your crops and the environments they thrive in, you’ll maximize your farming efforts and stay prepared for the challenges ahead.
