How to Farm Element in ARK

Element, ARK's top-tier Tek resource

Element is the resource that unlocks ARK's Tek Tier, and ark.wiki.gg describes it as "a strange, highly advanced material humming with energy" that "dissolves when transferred across ARKs." This guide covers every Element source the wiki documents: boss-kill rewards, the two crafting recipes (Tek Replicator and the Aberration Charge Node), and the DLC-specific gathering methods in Extinction and Genesis. Every figure below is quoted or computed straight from the wiki's Element page; anywhere the page doesn't give a number, this guide says so instead of guessing.

What Element Is

Per the infobox, Element is rated Uncommon rarity, renewable, not refineable, and not combustible, weighing 0.01 per unit with a stack size of 100. It was added to the game in patch v254.0. The page states plainly: "Element is a primary ingredient for equipment in the Tek Tier." It can be crafted in three stations — the Tek Replicator, the Charge Node (Aberration), and the Exo-Mek — though the page's recipe data only spells out the Tek Replicator and Charge Node recipes; the exact Exo-Mek recipe isn't documented on the page captured here, so this guide doesn't invent one.

Farming Element From Bosses

Ranked list of the highest Alpha-difficulty Element rewards from ARK bosses

The page states Element "is gathered from the inventory of bosses (except Rockwell and the Overseer) after killing them," and warns you to move fast: "Make sure to grab it quick, because once you are teleported out of the arena, you can't retrieve it anymore." A separate note adds an ASA-specific correction: "Rockwell does reward Element in ARK Survival Ascended" — so the Rockwell exclusion applies to ARK: Survival Evolved, not ASA.

For ARK: Survival Ascended, the wiki's boss table lists Element amounts at Gamma / Beta / Alpha difficulty. The highest Alpha payouts are Shallocis 300/450/900, Hydraskos 220/600/800, Thodes 200/450/750, Natrix 140/300/600, Nunatak 100/275/550, and Lost Queen 100/275/550. Shallocis shows the difficulty scaling cleanly: 900 Alpha ÷ 300 Gamma = exactly 3x more Element than Gamma. On the lower end, Broodmother Lysrix gives 24/68/178 and Megapithecus gives 48/132/264 across the same three difficulties.

ARK: Survival Evolved's separate table runs lower for shared bosses — Broodmother Lysrix there is 20/56/148 at Alpha, versus ASA's 178, a 30-Element gap (178 − 148 = 30), roughly 20% more in ASA (30 ÷ 148 ≈ 0.20). The Overseer, Moeder, the Corrupted Master Controller, and the Titans (plus Rockwell and Rockwell Prime in Survival Evolved) "do not leave Element on death, regardless of difficulty." One more wrinkle: "the Lost Colony fight gives Red Element, which can be broken down into two Element each, so the numbers shown can be doubled" — the Lost Queen's listed 550 Alpha Element can effectively become 1,100 (550 × 2).

Crafting Element

Table of the Charge Node Element recipe ingredients

The standard recipe converts 100 × Element Shard into 3 Element. As a ratio: 100 ÷ 3 ≈ 33.3 Element Shards per Element crafted.

On the Aberration map, the page explains Rockwell "does not drop any Element" there, so Element comes from Charge Nodes instead, naturally-occurring stations on the map. The alternate recipe at a Charge Node needs: 15 × Blue Gem or Blue Crystalized Sap, 8 × Charge Battery, 50 × Congealed Gas Ball, 20 × Element Ore, 20 × Green Gem or Fragmented Green Gem, and 10 × Red Gem or Red Crystalized Sap, yielding 3 Element per craft. The page quotes the throughput directly: "charge nodes can produce 3 Element every 43 minutes" — 43 ÷ 3 ≈ 14.3 minutes per Element. It also warns: "Be wary not to have more than 9 batteries within a charge node when forging Element, as fully charging 10 batteries will fully deplete the charge node and render it inactive until recharged."

Element can also be converted down into small amounts of Element Dust, but "at an 80% loss" — the exact Dust yield per Element converted isn't given on the page, so that ratio is left undocumented rather than guessed.

Other Ways to Get Element

Grid of DLC-specific Element farming methods: Extinction, Genesis, and Mobile

The page states its own efficiency verdict: "The most efficient way of farming element is by harvesting element shards in the ARK: Genesis DLC/Crystal Isles DLC and then turning it in to element." In Extinction, Element Nodes spawn "around the Wasteland" and can be defended for Element; the page separately notes Unstable Element "can be rarely harvested from a completely defended Element Node" — no exact yield is given for either, so that amount stays undocumented. In Genesis: Part 1, "Element Shards can also be rarely mined from the green-marked stones found in the lunar biome," and "red crystal formations in the volcanic biome can be mined for significant amounts of Element shards" — again with no per-node quantity stated. Genesis: Part 1 also sells it directly: "One Element can be bought from HLN-A for 2,000 Hexagon." In Genesis: Part 2, "small quantities of element can be looted from Supply Crates." Separately, the infobox lists a Mobile purchase: 1,000 Keys buys 100 Element, or 1,000 ÷ 100 = 10 Keys per Element.

Because "Element cannot be transferred between official servers or clusters," Extinction adds a workaround: Unstable Element, unlocked at Level 58 and crafted from 1,000 Element Dust, transfers and then converts back into regular Element after a 2-minute spoil timer. The exact Unstable Element yield from that 1,000-Dust craft isn't given on the page, so that figure stays undocumented.

Kill bosses for the biggest single payouts, but budget your trip — you can't retrieve leftover Element once you're teleported out of the arena. Otherwise, the wiki's own pick for raw efficiency is farming Element Shards in Genesis/Crystal Isles and turning them in at a Tek Replicator, at the documented 100-Shard-for-3-Element rate.

Running your own ARK server

Farming Element for Tek Tier gear is a grind that benefits from a stable, always-on world — boss arenas you can schedule with your tribe, Charge Nodes on Aberration you don't lose to a random wipe, and Genesis shard-mining runs that don't compete with strangers for the same lunar-biome nodes. A private ARK server keeps your stockpiled Element Shards, Charge Batteries, and Gems exactly where you left them, with no risk of another tribe beating you to a boss fight you spent hours prepping for.

Conclusion

Element comes from four documented sources on ark.wiki.gg: boss-kill rewards (up to 900 Alpha-difficulty Element from Shallocis in ASA), the Tek Replicator's 100-Shard-for-3-Element recipe, the Aberration Charge Node's alternate recipe (3 Element every 43 minutes), and DLC methods in Extinction and Genesis — including the wiki's own most-efficient pick, Genesis/Crystal Isles shard mining turned in at a Tek Replicator. Exact yields for defended Element Nodes, lunar/volcanic shard mining, and the Element Dust conversion ratios aren't spelled out on the source page, so this guide leaves those undocumented rather than guessing.
