How to Catch Muffly in Palworld (Location, Skills & Drops)

Muffly is an Ice-element Pal added in Palworld's 1.0 update, and on paper it looks unremarkable — modest stats, two low work ratings. Look at its partner skill, though, and it becomes one of the most useful Pals in the game for anyone hunting high-level Alphas: it increases the capture rate of Pals afflicted with Freeze. Here is where to find it, how to catch it, and why it deserves a permanent party slot.

Where to Find Muffly

Muffly is one of the easier 1.0 Pals to acquire, with several populations spread across a wide level band:

  • Mountain Stream Grotto — Level 22 – 25, the standard wild population.
  • Yellow A region — Level 15 – 16, the lowest-level spawn and the fastest catch.
  • Sky Island — Level 64 – 65, for players already working through Sunreach.
  • Alpha: "Totally Toasty Muffly" — Level 27 – 29 in the Mountain Stream Grotto, a fixed encounter you can return to.

If you just want the partner skill, head to the Yellow A region at Level 15 – 16. There is no benefit to catching the Sky Island version — the skill is identical, and a Level 15 Muffly costs you one cheap sphere instead of a fight.

Muffly also hatches from a Frozen Egg, with a CombiRank of 2,480 — one of the highest in the 1.0 roster, which means it needs high-ranked parents if you go the breeding route.

How to Catch Muffly

  1. Bring a Fire team. Muffly is pure Ice, and Ice is weak to Fire. A Fire attacker will take it out of the fight in a couple of hits, which is exactly the problem — be careful not to overkill it.
  2. Go for the low-level population. At Level 15 – 16 a basic Pal Sphere or Mega Sphere is enough. Do not waste anything better.
  3. Chip, do not burst. With 3,300 – 4,020 HP even at Level 80, the low-level version has a very small health pool. One heavy Fire hit will kill it outright.
  4. Grab several. Muffly is cheap to catch, and duplicates feed the Pal Essence Condenser or a breeding pen.
  5. Take the Alpha if you want a challenge. "Totally Toasty Muffly" at Level 27 – 29 is a fixed spawn, so it is farmable — useful for Ice Organs in bulk.

Skills & Stats

Muffly's partner skill — increasing the capture rate of Pals afflicted with Freeze — is the whole reason to own it, and it slots into an existing chain beautifully.

In Palworld's capture formula, status conditions multiply your capture chance rather than adding Capture Power, and Freeze is one of the statuses that does it. Muffly stacks another capture bonus on top of that multiplier. The practical combo:

  1. Ophydia makes your attacks inflict Soak.
  2. Elgrove Cryst freezes any Soak-afflicted enemy in a single strike.
  3. Muffly raises the capture rate on the now-Frozen target.
  4. Throw an Ancient Sphere at a Pal already in the red.

That is a repeatable way to lock down Level 76 – 80 Alphas rather than burning through two dozen spheres and hoping. Note the skill does not stack, so one Muffly is all you need.

Its signature moves are all Ice:

  • Diamond Rain (600)
  • Blizzard Spike (450)
  • Icicle Line (300)
  • Icicle Bullet (250)
  • Crystal Breath (160)

The full progression runs Air Cannon (40) at Lv1, Icicle Cutter (80) at Lv7, Air Blade (160) at Lv15, Crystal Breath (160) at Lv22, Icicle Bullet (250) at Lv30, Icicle Line (300) at Lv40, Blizzard Spike (450) at Lv50 and Diamond Rain (600) at Lv70.

At Level 80, Muffly's stat ranges land at:

  • HP: 3,300 – 4,020
  • Attack: 580 – 724
  • Defense: 380 – 479

Those are the softest numbers of any Pal added in 1.0, and there is no way to dress that up — Muffly is not a combat Pal. Its Cooling Lv2 and Transporting Lv1 are similarly modest at base.

That is fine. Muffly earns its party slot the same way Wispaw does: through a utility skill you cannot get anywhere else. Keep it in the party while you are hunting and swap it out when you are fighting.

Practical tips

  • Catch the Level 15 – 16 Yellow A population. The partner skill is identical to the Level 65 version and costs you one basic sphere.
  • Chain it with Ophydia and Elgrove Cryst for a reliable Soak → Freeze → capture loop on endgame Alphas.
  • The skill does not stack — one Muffly per party, then fill the remaining slots with different effects.
  • Its Ice Organ drop is 100%, so the farmable Alpha at Level 27 – 29 is a steady bulk source.
  • Do not level Muffly for combat. Its Level 80 Defense of 380 – 479 is the lowest in the update.

Running your own Palworld 1.0 server

Muffly exists to make catching other Pals easier, and catching a full roster of Level 76 – 80 Alphas is a project measured in sessions rather than hours. A hosted Palworld 1.0 server keeps your world and its Alpha spawns live 24/7 so you can chip away at a catch list whenever you have time, supports full crossplay so friends on any platform can join the hunt, and handles one-click backups and automatic updates so a hard-won Paldeck is never at risk.

Conclusion

Muffly is a specialist, not a fighter. Its Level 80 stats are the weakest in the 1.0 roster, but its partner skill — a capture-rate boost against Frozen Pals — makes it a genuine force multiplier on every high-level catch you attempt. Grab the Level 15 – 16 Yellow A population with a cheap sphere, pair it with Ophydia and Elgrove Cryst to apply Freeze reliably, and keep it in the party any time you are hunting rather than fighting.
