How to Build a Base in Duckside

     In Duckside, setting up your base is one of the key steps to ensuring your survival and establishing a foothold in the game. You’ll want to find a spot that offers a balance of safety and resources—something close to lootable areas like monuments but not right in the open where anyone can raid you easily.

 

 

Hammer and Building Menu

 

     Before you start constructing your base, you’ll need to equip a hammer. This is your main tool for building in Duckside.

 

    

     Once you have the hammer in hand, hold the right mouse button to open the Circle Building Menu. This menu presents you with various options for building parts, such as foundations, walls, doors and roofs.

 

    

     In the center of the circle, you’ll see a preview of the part you’ve selected, along with the materials required to build it. Make sure you have the necessary resources—wood, stone, and metal—before proceeding with any construction.

 

     Your base should be strategically placed, avoiding overly populated areas while keeping close to valuable resources. Once you’ve chosen a spot, the first thing you’ll need to build is the foundation.

 

 

Building Foundations

 

     Your base will always start with the foundation, which forms the backbone of your structure. A square 2x2 foundation is common, but adding a triangle entrance can help you defend against raiders.  Press ‘Q’ or ‘E’ to rotate parts before building.

 

    

     This design makes it harder for enemies to ambush you when entering or exiting your base. If someone is waiting behind one door, you can exit through the other and catch them off guard. This simple yet effective tactic can dramatically reduce your risk of being raided during your early stages of the game.

 

    

 

Gathering Materials

 

     Before you can build, you’ll need to gather basic resources like wood, fiber, and stone. These are critical for building your base’s foundation, walls, and roof and what is important for upkeeping your home, because it starts decaying after you place the Idol. Regularly place wood, stone, and metal into the Idol pot and monitor the decay timer.

 

    

     To keep your structure from being an easy target, upgrade its durability as quickly as possible. Starting with a twig base is fine, but upgrading it to wood and then to metal will help protect against raiders and explosions.

 

 

Placing Walls and Doors

 

     Once your foundation is set, use the Circle Building Menu to craft and place walls. Be sure to include door frames at your triangle entrance, and craft two doors to create the dual-entry setup. This is essential for the extra layer of protection when someone tries to breach your base.

 

    

     Cap your structure with a roof to prevent aerial attacks or people jumping into your base from above. At this stage, you’ll also want to craft storage boxes to secure your items.

 

 

Expanding and Upgrading

 

     When you’ve secured the basics, it’s time to think about expansion. Upgrade your walls and doors from to wood to metal as soon as you can. Eventually, you’ll want to add a workbench to unlock more advanced crafting, including weapons and tools. This is crucial for defending your base and increasing your strength in Duckside.
