How to Beat the Broodmother in ARK: Survival Ascended

Broodmother Lysrix is one of ARK's original Guardian bosses, and unlike a wild dino you can walk up to, she's a tribute-gated arena fight — you can't just wander in. Per the wiki, "the Broodmother is the intermediate of the Guardians on The Island, being stronger than the Megapithecus but weaker than the Dragon," and it recommends fighting her after the Megapithecus and before the Dragon, though the in-lore kill order is Broodmother first. This guide covers only what ark.wiki.gg documents about summoning her, the arena, minions, difficulty tiers, and drops — nothing extrapolated, every gap flagged.
Where to Fight Her and the Difficulty Tiers
On The Island and The Center, you reach her by placing the required tribute items at a Supply Crate or Obelisk and using the "Generate Broodmother Portal" (or Center Portal) item. The wiki is specific about the portal's limits: it "will be opened to teleport nearby players and dinos into the arena, open for approximately 25 seconds. (Up to 10 survivors and 20 tames only.)" In Single Player mode on The Island, the portal can only be generated from the Green Obelisk. On Fjordur she's summoned differently — "at a specific terminal within The Overgrown Grave (Fjordur), to which the entrance is located at 57.5/65.8." She can also be found roaming the wild in the Redwoods on Valguero, where killed Broodmothers "do not give the Tekgrams, but instead assorted Blueprints," spawning at varying levels rather than a fixed arena difficulty.
The arena fight has three difficulty tiers — Gamma (Easy), Beta (Medium), Alpha (Hard) — color-coded per the wiki: Gamma is default coloring, Beta is yellow, Alpha is red.
Tribute Requirements

To open the portal on any map, the Player Level minimum is 30 (Gamma), 50 (Beta), or 70 (Alpha) — a flat +20 levels per tier. Every tier also needs one Artifact of the Clever, one Artifact of the Hunter, and one Artifact of the Massive. Beta and Alpha add four apex-drop items — Argentavis Talon, Sarcosuchus Skin, Sauropod Vertebra, and Titanoboa Venom — at 5 each for Beta and 10 each for Alpha. The arithmetic: 10 ÷ 5 = 2, so Alpha needs exactly double Beta's apex-resource tribute, on top of 20 more player levels. Gamma needs none of those four items.
On Fjordur, the tribute list swaps in a Beyla Relic (1, every difficulty) alongside the same three artifacts and the same apex-item scaling — otherwise it matches the Any-Map table exactly.
The Fight: Minions, Attacks, and Recommended Tames

In the arena, Broodmother Lysrix "spawns Araneo as minions, slows players and mounts with its web attack, uses an acid projectile attack, and can cause torpor damage." Her own domestication data lists her as Torpor Immune, so knocking her out isn't an option. The wiki's strategy note is blunt: "there isn't really much strategy needed to fight a Broodmother, most of the time, whistling all dinos to attack her will be sufficient," though it adds to surround her for maximum damage and keep firearms on hand as a last resort.
Recommended tames per the wiki: a Yutyrannus or two, whose Courage Roar gives "an additional 20% resistance and 25% damage"; a Megatherium for its Insect Killer buff, called "probably the best fighting mount for the Broodmother fight"; Deinosuchus for Giga Bite attacks; Therizinosaurus for high DPS with health regen via Sweet Vegetable Cakes; a Rex army for high health and damage; Spinosaurus for the arena water's hydrated buff; Shadowmanes, whose mate-boost roar stacks with a Yutyrannus roar; Daeodon for healing (with food micromanagement); and a herd of 6 Stegosaurus, whose hardened plate mode "reduces the boss's spit attack by half" — with a strong saddle and a Yutyrannus roar, the wiki says they take only 20% of her damage.
On danger: the web attack catches unmounted players off guard, and torpor from her attacks and her minions' can stack fast enough to knock out anyone not riding a dino. Alpha difficulty brings "a significant buff to health and damage, requiring very high armor saddles, imprinting, and the Yutyrannus's courage buff." In the Center Arena, the Megapithecus and its minions are present too. As a weakness, she's "quite slow at gamma and beta difficulties," and a Procoptodon trick lets a solo player jump onto an arena mushroom and shoot her with firearms "without taking any damage (unless you're fighting the alpha variant)."
Rewards: Drops, XP, and Unlocks

A kill is worth 32 XP, with guaranteed-loot chance listed at 100%. In ARK: Survival Ascended, the Element reward is 24 (Gamma), 68 (Beta), and 178 (Alpha), plus a Spider Flag and a difficulty-matching Broodmother Trophy every tier. Scaling isn't linear: 178 ÷ 24 ≈ 7.4, so Alpha pays roughly seven and a half times Gamma's Element, while Beta (68 ÷ 24 ≈ 2.8) is under three times Gamma. ARK: Survival Evolved's version of the same table lists slightly lower counts — 20/56/148 — per the same source page.
A kill also unlocks Tek-tier Engrams scaling with difficulty and arena (Island vs. The Center), including the Tek Replicator and Tek Foundation at every tier, with Beta and Alpha adding items like the Mosasaur Tek Saddle and Tek Turret — the full per-item list is long, so it isn't reproduced line-by-line. Two achievements attach to this fight: Veteran Survivor ("You defeated ARK's first Ultimate Life Form!") for the Island kill, and Survivor of the Center ("You defeated the guardians of The Center!") for the Center Arena kill.
Since patch 34.49, boss corpses are harvestable in ARK: Survival Ascended specifically so players stop getting stuck inside them — loot the body before you leave. Worth knowing going in: Broodmother Lysrix was tameable until patch v183.0, after which taming was removed; her domestication entry currently lists Tameable, Rideable, and Breedable all as No.
Running your own ARK server
Assembling a Broodmother tribute run — hitting player level 70, farming Argentavis Talons and Titanoboa Venom in bulk for an Alpha attempt, breeding a saddle-ready Stegosaurus herd — takes real time, and a crowded or resetting world can undo a lot of that prep. A dedicated ARK server keeps your artifact stash, bred tames, and saddle collection exactly where you left them, with no other tribe racing you to the Obelisk. It also lets you schedule the actual portal window — open for about 25 seconds per the wiki — around when your whole group is online, instead of hoping a public server's arena is free.
Conclusion
Beating the Broodmother comes down to what the wiki documents: hit the player-level and artifact/apex-item tribute requirements for your chosen tier, bring tames that counter her Araneo minions and torpor-stacking attacks — Yutyrannus, Megatherium, and a Stegosaurus herd are the standouts — and expect Element, a Spider Flag, and a tier-matching Trophy on the kill, scaling up sharply at Alpha. The full per-tier Tekgram list and exact narcotic/torpor mechanics during the fight aren't documented on the source page, so they're left as explicit gaps rather than guessed.
